“NO!!!”
With a sudden outcry, Sorvoros jumped backwards and conjured his war equipment out of thin air.
Now he was clad in a menacing black battle robe imbued with greenish runes that immediately sprang to life. In his left hand he held onto a diabolic looking staff made of black wood. Demonic eyes adorned its top and observed their surroundings with a baleful gaze. The whole top was burning with abyssal flames.
Sorvoros move broke the devourer formation. I felt the connections to my soul break, freeing me of the agonizing pain. My mangled body fell to the floor. For the first twenty seconds I laid there and tried to recover my mind and soul. It felt great to not be in horrible pain anymore. I only now realized how close I had come to reaching my limits. Had had Sorvoros more time, even my evil guest would have been unable to hold my soul together.
I was wondering what would happen next, when a crashing sound came from above and the whole structure shock like it had gotten hit by a sledgehammer.
Followed immediately by another hit, the structure shock even more. The thing got closer and closer. It reminded me of a behemoth that broke through stone walls one after another.
With a loud crack, the chains binding the room got ripped apart. Something broke through the ceiling and crashed into the floor. A cloud of dust enveloped us. Slowly the cloud subsided, clearing my view. For the first time I saw the entity that had smashed its way into the room.
A ten feet tall knight raised himself out of the ditch. He was clad in black plate and chain-mail, spikes and skulls adorned his imposing armor. In his right hand, an eight feet long massive claymore made purely of black steel, radiated its might and aura of death.
Damn, why couldn’t it be a knight in shining armor. He didn’t look any less evil than the archmage. I had to flee the first chance I got!
The black knight moved toward the evil mage and pointed his claymore towards Sorvoros.
“You have been practicing forbidden soul magic and have been judged guilty! Kneel and await your sentence!”
“No! I am Archmage Sorvoros! I kneel before no one!! I call you! Spirits of the Abyss!”
With an eerie sound, a crack appeared below him and dark entities flowed into his body.

“AAAAAAHHHHHH!”
Sorvoros whole body contorted, before suddenly becoming still.
“HAHAHAHA, Foolish human! Selling your very soul and with it your protection against us for power! Your body is mine! Now I can walk on this plane once more!”
The knight didn’t care about the change of owner in the body. He had a mission to fulfill.
“Not complying with your sentence, you have gained the status of irredeemable and have been sentenced to death!”
“Measly world warden, you dare to stand in my way to freedom?! I will show you the power of the abyss!”
Their fight began. The abyssal creature conjured orbs of hellfire and threw them at the world warden. while the knight was occupied with avoiding the spells, it summoned a gigantic demon that threw itself at the warden as soon as it had made its way out of the portal.
As they were fighting two versus one, the clashes got harsher and harsher. The Warden used his inhuman strength to slaughter the monstrous demon former Sorvoros had conjured. But the feat had cost him. His once pristine armor had become dented all over and blood leaked out between the plates.
Contrary to my prediction, the fight didn’t slow down. After the demon had died, they pushed themselves further and further until they ripped into each other regardless of themselves. Spells and parts of the room were flying everywhere. A spell graced my prison, breaking it open in the process.
I immediately felt the restrictions loosen, and my shunned body floated up into the air. Secretly, I observed them and everything around me. Biding my time for the right moment. I would only have one chance at this.
It happened. An enormous explosion filled the entire room with dust and smoke. Using it as cover, I made a beeline for the hole in the ceiling through which the warden had broken in earlier.
Fleeing as quickly as I could I flew up and up through the levels of the structure. The more I saw, the surer I got that this was a magic tower! entering another room, I spotted sunshine on the far ceiling. At last I had arrived at the top! Not hesitating for a second, I flew through the fissure the knight's arrival had left.
Four hundred feet above the ground, I took in my surroundings. The sight was breathtaking! It was morning, and the sun had come up recently. It bathed everything in a golden light.
It was not that perfect. The area around the tower had died long ago and the tower itself looked as diabolic as one could expect for being owned by an evil magician. But still, having gone through so much hardship during the last few hours, It felt gorgeous to me.
“BAAANNNGGG!”
Right, it was time to flee. Not paying any more attention to the beautiful morning sun, I legged it as quickly as I could.
