CHAPTER 3:
12:34 AM
I let out a deep breath. The pen, now hovering effortlessly at eye level, spun in the air, a testament to the control I had gained over my newfound ability. I had only taken breaks to eat and go to the bathroom, the rest of the time was spent trying to improve my telekinetic powers. The key, I learned, was to use my imagination and picture the objects doing what I wanted them to do. My room looked drastically different from how it had been earlier in the day – books were neatly stacked in mid-air, forming a sort of floating library, and my clothes were rearranging themselves neatly in my closet. During my time practicing, I had achieved Telekinesis Level 2. Lucifer, who had been lounging on my bed, watching with a mix of amusement and interest, clapped slowly.
"Impressive," he said. "You've come a long way in just ten hours. Most would take days, if not weeks, to achieve this level of proficiency."
“What do you mean others,” I furrowed my brow, “Are there others like me?”
Lucifer paused, “Well, no, not on Earth, but in the underworld I have trained my most important soldiers in some of my powers.”
I lowered the pen onto the desk with a satisfied smile.
"I see," I said, feeling a sense of pride. "But it feels like there's so much more to learn, so much more power to unlock."
“Well, it's not like you’ve even come close to mastery of telekinesis,” Lucifer grinned. “Let me give you some advice though. Your potential is vast. But remember, with great power comes great responsibility. And often, great danger. The path you're embarking on is not just about mastering skills, but also about understanding the consequences of wielding such power."
I nodded, understanding the weight of his words. My mind raced with the possibilities and challenges that lay ahead. The room settled back into normalcy as I released my telekinetic hold on the objects.
“Alright, Lucifer, leave me now. I’m going to rest,” I sighed, laying back on my bed, legs dangling off the side.
“Call me when you need me,” Lucifer smiled.
As Lucifer vanished into a column of black fire, leaving a faint trace of sulfur, I sat there, contemplating my next steps. The excitement of getting better at telekinesis was thrilling, but I knew this was just the beginning of a much larger journey. I glanced at the pen on my desk, now still, a symbol of the extraordinary turn my life had taken. I had an online class at 10 AM the next morning, but I decided I would skip that since I was too filled with excitement to go to bed. I hopped off my bed and walked into the living room. As I was walking my phone started to buzz in my pocket. I pulled it out and checked, one of my friends from back home was FaceTiming me. Accepting the call a face appeared on the screen. Monolid eyes and black hair which was parted in the middle. He was making a weird face, his eyes wide open, though they didn’t open too far.
“Sup, Derek,” I answered, holding the phone up so it showed my face.
“Yoooo,” Derek responded. “Wanna watch something?”
Even though I didn’t have any really close friends out in Michigan, I did have a good handful back home. Most of my friends had already graduated college and there were only a few of us still in school. To kill time, we often hopped on Discord in the evenings to chat, play video games, or watch TV. I noticed sounds were coming from my roommate’s room so I figured I wouldn’t be disturbing him by watching in the living room. He was a nice guy, I had no need to get on his bad side.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“Yeah, I’m down,” I said, walking back into my room and grabbing my MacBook and HDMI cable. “What were you thinking?”
“I don’t know,” he paused. “What were you thinking?”
“Bruh,” I chuckled. “You really called me without anything in mind?”
“Yeah, I’m bored and my girlfriend isn’t coming over tonight,” he said, putting on his headphones. “Let’s watch something!”
“Alright, anyone else online right now?” I sighed as I walked over to the TV in the living room.
Our apartment came fully furnished so we had a giant 58-inch flatscreen TV hanging on the wall. Additionally, a faux leather couch was neatly positioned in the niche formed by the end of my roommate's room.
“Yeah, Matt, Michael, and Jeff are on, but I think everyone else is doing things,” he replied. “I tried calling you like two hours ago but you didn’t pick up.”
“Oh yeah, my bad I was-” I started before catching myself. It was probably for the best that I didn't tell them about anything that happened today, even though they were some of my closest friends. They probably just wouldn’t believe me anyway.
“You were what? Jerking off?” He said mockingly. “Hurry up and get on.”
I laughed, “Trust me, I wasn’t jerking off, bro. Alright, I'm setting up my computer.”
Derek hung up so I put my phone in my pocket. I then placed my laptop down on the counter and plugged the HDMI cable into it. I bent my body over the counter and tried looking behind the TV for the HDMI port. Finding it, I fit the cable into its rightful spot and turned on my laptop. I quickly opened Discord, the app we used as our chatroom, and joined the lobby my friends were waiting in.
“Yo,” I said standing over my computer. “So what are we watching?”
“I dunno, we haven’t figured that out yet,” Michael responded.
“What to watch, that is the question,” Jeff pondered in his intellectual voice.
“I guess we can watch anime,” I said, anime being my go-to form of entertainment. “Let’s watch Saiki.”
“Alright, fine,” Michael said, glumly. “Nothing better to watch I guess.”
“Yea I’m down,” Derek said. He was usually down to watch anime with me.
“Sure,” Matt chimed in. “I mean we’ve already seen it before, but sure.”
“Maybe I’ll watch for a little bit,” Jeff sighed.
We streamed the anime that night and before I knew it another couple of hours had passed.
“Alright guys, I’m off to bed,” I yawned, getting up off the couch and walking over to my computer. “Goodnight.”
My friends said goodnight as I closed out of Discord. Unplugging my laptop from the TV, I brought it back to my room. I opened my underwear and sock drawer and looked inside, it was a mess. I never bothered folding my underwear or pairing my socks, it was just too much effort. I raised my hand out in front of me and the clothes started floating into the air. I didn’t need to use my hands to activate telekinesis, though when I did it felt as if I had more control. Spreading my fingers, the clothes all separated from one another. Underwear and socks hovered around me like a wall. My underwear was a mix of Supreme and Ralph Lauren briefs with several pairs of dri-fit Under Armour and Calvin Klein briefs. My socks were all Nike or Ralph Lauren. I folded the underwear with little focus and stacked them neatly on top of each other in the drawer. I realized I would have to sort through the socks anyways in order to pair them, so I just dropped them all in a pile to the right of the underwear. While doing this, I didn’t feel any of the exhaustion I had felt earlier that day, after having practiced so long, my powers were getting easier to use and more natural. I smirked, my life really was about to get easier with this new power.
“What other powers, or skills rather, will I unlock,” I murmured to myself as I decided which underwear I’d wear to take on tomorrow’s day.
Riffling through the different pairs I decided on black Supreme briefs, they were my favorite after all. I wore them when I knew I would have to do something tough, but I also wore them when I was feeling good. Today, I was feeling good. Really good. I grabbed the briefs and went to the bathroom to take a shower and get ready for bed. Usually, I liked taking a shower a couple of hours before bed so my hair would dry, but today I had forgotten all about that. After taking my shower I applied my nighttime face lotion and took out my contact lenses. I then brushed my teeth and went back into my room. Laying down in bed I stared at the ceiling for a bit and a smile uncontrollably crept over my face.
