The store assistant found his silence odd at first but quickly realized he was staring intently at Noelle. Understanding the situation, she said nothing more and simply retrieved two boxes of pregnancy tests for Noelle.
The entire time, Noelle didn't look at Hendrix-not even when paying at the counter. As he reached out to take the items, she swatted his hand away with a loud, crisp smick.
The store assistant was startled by the sound but had no time to react before Noelle picked up the items and walked out. Hendrix immediately followed after her. To his relief, she still got into his car. During the drive, Hendrix wanted to explain himself.
Should he say he did it for her health? Then, why hadn't he taken precautions himself? Or should he claim he knew nothing? But if she was questioning him like this, it was clear Beatrice had said something to her.
No matter how he tried to frame it, any explanation felt hollow. So, he stayed silent the entire way to Nivis Villa.
As soon as the car stopped, Noelle got out without hesitation. Hendrix intended to follow her, but she quickly shut the door in his face.
He still had a mountain of work waiting for him that morning, and his phone had already rung several times with urgent calls. Yet, he couldn't bring himself to care about any of it.
The wait was excruciating. Hendrix had no idea how long he stood outside. He couldn't even remember the last time he had felt this kind of torment, Or perhaps, he had never felt it before.
At that moment, it felt to him as if time had frozen still. Just when he thought an eternity had passed, the bathroom door finally opened.
Before he could ask about the result, Noelle threw the pregnancy test stick at him.
"I've been taking birth control pills, yet I'm pregnant now. Care to explain why?" Noelle asked in a cold voice.
Hendrix froze for a moment before picking up the test stick to examine it carefully. There were two unmistakable lines.
He felt shock, disbelief, and finally, a surge of uncontainable joy. He immediately looked at Noelle, but she only stared back at him blankly. For some reason, he suddenly recalled the last time she had been pregnant.
What was her reaction back then? He couldn't remember. But what really sent a cold sweat down his back was that he couldn't even remember his own reaction at the time.
"Do you... not want it?" he finally asked.
Noelle looked at him calmly. "Answer my question first."noveldrama
"Yes. It was me who switched your pills," Hendrix finally admitted, his response direct and simple. Noelle clenched her teeth tightly. "Why?"
"Don't you want a child?" Hendrix countered.
Pale in the face, Noelle couldn't help the trembling in her voice. "And what about you? Do you truly want a child, or are you just trying to use this child to tie me down?
"What is a child to you? If he grows up one
y and learns he was brought the world under these
circumstances, how do you think he'll feel? Your mother was right. You don't deserve pity, and I should never have softened my heart toward you."
