Before long it was the end of the school day and Alric had decided to meet up with Phannor and Lloyd.
“Where is Christina?”
Alric was the one to ask, after all from the first time he encountered the two Christina was there with them and they even shared some of the same classes.
“She couldn’t make it.
She said something about working on something really special.”
Phannor was the one to answer since he was the one who wanted to make sure all of his close companions would learn to appreciate the beauty of the library.
Alric nodded a little nonchalantly about the matter.
“Come on Alard we have to register your library pass or else it’ll expire before you even get to use it.”
Lloyd was the one to drag Alric by the hand and lead the group in the right direction.
From the outside the library looked more like a miniature castle rather than a library but the moment the trio opened the large doors the smell of old books and paper hit them like a truck.
Phannor looked like he was high on ecstasy the moment the air touched his nose, the poor boy looked like he was about to orgasm. Lloyd on the other hand was less inclined to this acquired scent, he started coughing the moment the air touched his nose.
It took a few seconds before Lloyd could adjust to the new environment.
Inside the library was as vast as one would expect an academy of a few hundred years would be. The ground floor was overseen by a lady at the reception. Alric didn’t want to judge but she was just too stereotypical not to.
Between her thick glasses, soft voice and the book she hurried to put away, she was exactly what anyone would think a librarian would look like.
“Good day students.
I am Casandra the Librarian here.
Um if you need any reading recommendations I would refer you to the historical section..”
She spoke softly but quickly at the same time.
‘Slam!’
Before Phannor or Alric could speak Lloyd had already slammed his library pass on the table and gave a creepy smile;
“Just show us to the good stuff lady”
The librarian was a little stunned by Lloyds mannerism but after looking at the pass that he casually flaunted around she bowed slightly before speaking,
“...Um.. do all of you have a golden pass?”
Lloyd gave Alric a look at the corner of his eye as though trying to send a message.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Alric was a little surprised since Lloyd had never acted like this before but when he got that look he understood and nodded his head slightly.
Alric pulled his pass slightly out from his top pocket flashing it at the librarian,
“What do you think?”
Cassandra was a little flustered seeing another pass.
Alric rolled his eyes trying to give off the look of annoyance
“Come on,
Stop wasting our time and show us where to go already.”
Phannor was the one to drive the nail in the coffin this time.
Seeing two of the three students present a library pass left the librarian more than a little flustered, after all it had to be noted that only the most senior of teachers could issue one and among all the teachers only seven could be issued at a time.
But for her to now meet not one but three students who qualified this early in the semester for a library pass meant only one thing.
They were the most impressive students by Colonel Clover’s standards. These students were destined for great things regardless of their current standings.
Instead of insulting the other, the librarian simply bowed slightly and led them to the upper area of the library.
She wanted to make a good impression and maybe even some future contacts.
walking behind the librarian Lloyd gave Alric a sinister grin who in turn gave Phannor a creepy smile.
Phannor was almost in tears never had he imagined that he would be lucky enough to see the other parts of the library, afterall a golden pass was only issued to the most impressive of students and he was still barely able to stand toe to toe with the students in his class muchless to shine amongst them.
Regardless he held his composure right up until the librarian bowed and left.
The moment she left Phannor was like a child let loose in an amusement park. He grabbed the oldest book in arm’s reach and took a deep breath.
Like a junkie taking his first hit Phannor looked like he was off meeting the gods.
Lloyd gave him an awkward expression,
“What are we supposed to do with these anyways?”
Lloyd took up a random book and skipped through it.
“Hmm, I wonder why these are separate from the rest of the library…”
Alric was the one to speak aloud as he skipped through another random book as well.
This was when Phannor broke from his ecstasy and spoke,
“Can’t you guys see it?”
“See what?”
Phannor shook his head in disappointment hearing Lloyd ask.
“The reason this little section is off limits is because fifty percent of the books are autobiographies of past students.
And not just any student… the top students.”
That's when Alric connected the dots. The reason why this section was off limits… It had the cultivation technique of every top student that ever went to this school.
Just following in any random direction would almost definitely lead a student to unparalleled heights. Now he understood why the school didn’t mind giving him such a luxurious room.
It was all just to butter up the potential starlets from early.
“Well at least two of us here still have a brain.”
Phannor sighed before continuing,
“And I’m pretty sure you understand what the other fifty percent are?”
Alric nodded looking at the time period and region illustrated on the spine of each book.
“History books.
From all over the continent too, based on the looks of this.”
Alric looked closer at the books and continued to read.
Alric looked around until he was captivated and as quickly as they came a few hours had passed.
Alric looked at a giant clock on the wall and was shocked.
Did time really fly by that fast?!
“Guy’s I have to go, we can meet up tomorrow.”
Phannor wanted to stop him since he hadn’t gotten the chance to show his appreciation for their little stunt but Alric was just too quick.
Alric stormed to his dorm and adorned his x-ray crystal and headed to his little gang in the slums.
Normally Alric would have been more cautious with his movements but tonight was a very important night for his plans.
If he failed tonight his plan would be pushed back a few years and that was not a risk Alric was willing to take.
Not to mention the risk of lifetime imprisonment with a side of torture if he was ever caught.
Alric knew the risks in the life he chose, but he was more than willing to walk the lonely road again. Even if it meant he had to take another life.
Alric smiled before speaking.
“Everything starts tonight!”
