Chapter 18:
Yin Chen has been through a great deal of world changing event in his life. Twelve whole years of it in fact, Things that were lost to him that could never be returned to him. Each event that had transpired was unredeemable nor undoable it just couldn’t be undone. Each one will forever stick to him for the rest of his days. Things that no normal mortal soul should ever had to every experience in their short lifespans, thus there truly isn’t much that can haze him.
That was what he had assumed to himself given all that he had seen and had done, not even the multitude numbers of otherworldly horrors of the past twelve years, nor the atrocities he himself had committed had unnerved him. Even going undergoing the multiple trails of life and death, the unearthly pain of undergo rebirth; none of that he had experienced did. But what he heard from Liang Lì did. His hearts pumped within his chest, all three hearts were active and pumping instead of just his main heart. He could feel the adrenaline and blood coursing through his veins, his senses reaching greater heights. His already transhuman augmented senses was now on overdrive the space around him became more clearer, he could make out the small micro-particles flowing so softly, and so slowly in the air all around him. His ears could pick up the soft hums of the inner workings of the facility, the energy coils currents everything.
All these was registering within his mind but these were all inconsequential. His mind was more preoccupied with processing the details of what was just conveyed. More brothers having been killed, one still missing, the general was nowhere to be found and now. Now even more of their top branch chain of command have gone missing.
“Elaborate.” Yin Chen voiced out his command as much as with his mind. Trying to keep his mind projections as clear as possible so that his kin couldn’t pick up on his distress.
[We, we do not entirely comprehend the situation ourselves. Our sources currently are unreliable there is little to near nothing we can draw upon. Theres just…nothing.] Liang Lì reported the shame of it all, the raw depths of hatred not at his kin but at himself. He treated this oversight as his own fault. Yin Chen felt this, like a tidal wave of raw being sweeping over him, but Yin Chen didn’t convey anything verbally or emotionally to his kin.
“Find out then.” Was all Yin Chen the Captain General of the Ten-Thousand could say.
Afterall what was there to even convey? That was not their way, it was not to say that their kind is incapable of compassion even towards each other. They have spent so much time together throughout the twelve years, outside of their home world with no one else but only each other. There was no way they couldn’t have any emotional ties with one another as brothers of blood, but in this case there just wasn’t anything that Yin Chen could say.

Even transcendent beings like themselves were not without their faults or emotions this fact mauled deeply at the Captain General’s core. ‘We trained ourselves to become the best of humanity and yet we in doing so, we lost and failed to compute with what it means to be human. Is this what the old man is trying to help us regain the last four years?’
Yin Chen contemplated this within his mind, though not understanding it. It made logical sense to Yin Chen, that they would lose that fragile existence of what a mortal would refer to as ‘human’. To become what they are now, they needed to ascend from humanity to become more than human to become greater than human. Then why? Why would the old man try so hard in vain to force them the Blades, the greatest weapon ever created by man to be human? His mind pulsed with theories upon theories this was all happening, even as he registered Liang Lì projecting his compliance, before the mind link was severed leaving Yin Chen alone in the darkness. His mind still racing, simultaneously running all the predication, calculations forcing his brains to map and triangulate the possible scenario or cause of the events that has transpired. Even as his mind was grabbling with the logical senses that were now plaguing his mind despite his efforts to stay focused.
This caused a mortal response of frustration to build up with the Captain General. What is going? This question still lingered and clawed at him. Just what is happening? How is any of this happening? At this he couldn’t help but embrace another mortal response stress. He laughed; in the past he would have reprimanded himself for such a show of mortal weakness. However, in this case he couldn’t even bother to, after all the answer to his question was already known. He knew the answer to it, but in his pride and absolute belief in his order, he found himself adamantly refusing to acknowledge it.
How could he? They were Blades, such notions of mortal betrayal was alien to him. A notion that should have been impossible for their kind, so why did the War Master betray them? Thoughts of all theories were swimming when sudden he heard the slight beeps of Pod coming through the door. Illuminating the dark room, with the corridors light. Pod then beeped its message in its code language, the message nearly caught Yin Chen by surprise.
[Master, I have found traces of your father] his father? It took him nearly a full second to comprehend what was Pod was talking about. Then it hit him, his father that’s right! The other lingering thought at the back of his mind, put aside due to the current urgent situation.
“Enlighten me then.” Yin Chen commanded, clearing his mind as he put most of his attention on Pod. His other thoughts still processing in the back of his mind. Pod beeped its reply in its binary language, the answer confused him.
“What?”
Meanwhile. Far away from Quan Zhou in an undisclosed location a message was being sent.
[It is done.]
[I see. Now it’s time to clean house, as the rest of the pack has also been dealt with.]
[Even with the head decapitated the rest of the body is still lethal it will be difficult.]
[It will be no issue we have the advantage here; they will never see it coming I have seen to that.]
[Very well.]
[Everything ready on your part.]
[Well enough but they will perform.]
[That’s all we need, Operation; Soul Purification begins.]
