She grew up alone and never knew her family or where she came from. “Yes, I knew your parents” said Saffron.
Saffron described Zena’s mother Tara Lilygust as someone who possessed qualities such as helpfulness, responsibility, and intelligence, but also felt a bit confused. However, Saffron pointed out that there was more to Tara than met the eye, which was not surprising given her position. Tara was born into a small family in a wealthy village and lived a trouble-free life until she turned 13, at which point she began exploring the country and learning a new language. Along with her great friends, Tara explored new areas in a whimsical world, and with her talents and sense of humor, she had the potential to make a significant impact on the world.
“I’m glad to know more about my mother,” Zena said with a small smile. “What about my father?”
Saffron’s expression grew solemn. “Your father Mulberry Lilymello. He had a troubled past,” she began. “He was born and grew up in an ordinary family in a normal city, living happily until he was about 11 years old. But at that point, things took a turn for the worst. During a food shortage, he accidentally killed someone and was forsaken by all. He had to survive in a pitiless world with only a childhood friend by his side. But with his perseverance and bravery, he managed to conquer all fears and doubts and go beyond expectations.”
Zena listened intently, trying to imagine what her father must have gone through. “Thank you for telling me,” she said quietly.
“You talk about them in the past tense. I assume they have passed away?” Zena looked up at Saffron.
“You are correct.” Said Saffron sadly.
“Can you know the details of their passing?” Zena wanted to know what happened to them. It was eating at her. She needed to know.
“Your parents were on a mission to help a planet in need when their spaceship malfunctioned and crashed. They didn’t survive the accident,” explained Saffron, his voice filled with sympathy. “I’m sorry, Zena. I know it’s hard to hear, but you should know the truth.”

Zena’s eyes filled with tears as she heard the news of her parents’ tragic passing. She had always known that they were no longer with her, but hearing the details of how they died made it feel more real. Saffron reached over and took her hand, offering her comfort and support.
“I’m so sorry, Zena,” Saffron said softly. “Your parents were brave and selfless people who devoted their lives to helping others. They made a difference in the lives of so many, and their legacy will live on.”
Zena nodded, feeling a mixture of sadness and pride for her parents. She knew that they would want her to carry on their work and make a positive impact on the world, just as they had.
“Thank you for telling me, Saffron,” Zena said, wiping away her tears. “I may not have known my parents for long, but I will always be grateful for the time I did have with them and for the lessons they taught me.”
Saffron smiled at her, “I do not doubt that they would be proud of the person you’ve become, Zena. And if there’s ever anything you need, don’t hesitate to ask. You’re not alone.”
Saffron recounted to Zena the story of how, after the unfortunate demise of her parents, he whisked her away to planet Earth, a sanctuary believed to be shielded from her parents' adversaries.
Zena smiled back, feeling a sense of gratitude for Saffron’s kindness and support. She knew that she still had much to learn about herself and her heritage, but with Saffron by her side, she felt more hopeful than ever before.
During the next week, Saffron spent time helping Zena hone her abilities in preparation for the upcoming battle. Saffron explained that magic originates from an inner force, and while everyone possesses this power, only the Shelipian can channel it and wield it according to their will. In the past, uncontrolled use of magical energy had led to catastrophic warfare, but as knowledge grew, wars became less frequent and less devastating.
Saffron also pointed out that traditional beliefs often impeded the advancement of magical research and creativity, meaning that there was still a vast amount of knowledge to be uncovered. Zena listened, realizing that magic was more than just a tool for battle–it was a powerful force that could shape the world in countless ways.
As the week went on, Zena’s skills improved, and she felt more confident in her abilities. Saffron taught her how to control her magical energy and focus it on specific tasks, such as creating shields or manipulating objects. Zena found it challenging at first, but with practice, she got the hang of it.
On the day of the battle, Zena and Saffron joined the others in the fleet, ready to face the enemy. As they flew towards the enemy’s stronghold, Zena felt a mix of excitement and fear. She had never been in a battle before, but she knew that the fate of her people was at stake.
