The Gibblewopper

On a small mountain, unknown to humankind, a village exists and in this village lived Dr. Dee and Lily. Dr. Dee was a doctor since babyhood but Lily was only a wizard. This morning they were skipping along when suddenly they got very bored. It was between these couple of minutes of boredom that Dr. Dee had a great idea.

“We should go on a quest!” He exclaimed.

“What kind of quest?” Lily asked.

“I don’t know.”

So they considered hard about what quest they wanted to go on, but neither had a clue. A thought entered Lily’s mind.

“We could ask.” She said. Dr. Dee understood that was a fantastic idea, but...

“Ask who?” He questioned

“I don’t know.”

“Hmm... we could ask my mom.”

“Alrighty.”

And away they ran to ask Dr. Dee’s mom if she had any quests. She did:

“Well, the floors need cleaning, haven’t been mopped in days.” She said. Both were excited to have a quest. They ran to do it right away.

The floors are dirty. First, they swept up every crumb and tibble, then they mopped away every spot. The floors glowed: so clean.

When they finished, they ran to Dr. Dee’s mom.

“We finished your quest, do you have more?” They asked.

“Hmm… no, but I do hear something roaring in the valley.” She answered. It disappointed them she had no more quests. Who else to ask? Lily knew.

“We could ask my dad.” She said.

“Let’s do it!” Dr. Dee exclaimed and off they hopped to see Lily’s dad. He was in the kitchen making a huge pie.

“Dad, do you quests?” They ask.

“Hmm... I need the dishes done. I piled them to the ceiling and I’ve got no room to make my pie.” He said. It overjoyed them to have a quest and so they set to doing it right away.

Dr. Dee sponged the plates, scrubbed the pots and scrubbed the pans while Lily dried them and put them away. They finished; her dad finished his pie. They had a treat.

“Do you have more quests?” They asked.

“No, but I feel something thrashing in the valley.” He said. It disappointed them. Then Dr. Dee had an idea.

“Maybe we could ask the village chief if she has and quests!” He stated.

“Maybe.” She agreed and to the Village Chief, they ran. She was at home.

“Village chief, do you have any quests?” They asked.

“I’m sorry, I don’t,” she said, “but there's talk of a very large, very upset, and very wild Gibblewopper down in the valley.”

No quests! That was extremely disappointing.

“Now what?” Dr. Dee asked.

“Now what?” Lily asked.

“Now what?” They asked but neither had the answer. Both thought. And thought and think and thank and thonk and thunk, but no ideas came until:

“Should we ask the Gibblewopper if it has any quests?” Dr. Dee suggested.

“Should we?” Lily wondered.

“We should.” Dr. Dee answered.

“We should, we should!” Lily agreed.

Away they went: down the muddy mountains, past the high snow, around the raging rivers, through the colorful caves, between the big birch trees and all the way to the valley.

-

There they encountered the Gibblewopper.

-

It was huge, like a tiny mountain, with long gangly legs that it used to thrash, and bash, and smash, crash, trash, mash, and thrash more before puffing up its chest and letting a great big:

“OUCH!”

“Are you ok?” They asked.

“No! I’ve got a thorn in my paw and it hurts bad, very bad, very very bad.” It whimpered.

“Oh! That’s no good.” They said. “Do you have any quests?”

The Gibblewopper thought long and hard.

“Well, if you could take the thorn out of my paw that would be great.” It said. Tried they did, but it’s stuck and no pushing or pulling helped unstuck it. Dr. Dee tried using his doctor training to fix the problem but there was no chapter on ‘Removing Thorns from Gibblewopper Paws’. So they thought.

Lily remembered something:

“I’m a wizard, I could use a spell!” Lily exclaimed.

“You are?” The Gibblewopper asked.

“She is.” Dr. Dee answers. Then in common wizard fashion, Lily said some mystical gobbledygook and the thorn menace was no more.

After cleaning the floors, washing the dishes, and removing the thorn from the Gibblewopper’s paw, the questing duo were all quested out; The Gibblewopper invited them for dinner and they were home before bedtime.
