There I was, browsing through the ‘latest updates’ on the Royal Road website, to see if there were any new chapters from the countless novels I read there, or if there are any new interesting looking entries. Hmmm… Nothing that strikes interest... *Yawn*

Looking at the time I saw it was 3:23am. I guess I should go to sleep now. Closing down the latest updates tab I opened up facebook, just a force of habit. I like to go through vines or funny videos for 10-15 minutes before I go to sleep, helps me relax.

I went on facebook, no notifications, obviously, I haven’t updated anything in my profile for over an year, and I don’t bother with commenting on posting on others pictures/statuses… Why bother? It’s not like I don’t have any friends, I am actually quite popular. But I just like to be alone, don’t bother me and I won’t bother you.

I ignored all posts from my friends as usual, and just browsed through videos. Huh… What’s this? “Man in Dubai Mall catches fire, but doesn’t burn! Unbelievable!”

When the fuck did this happen? I have visited Dubai Mall, so I opened up the video as I was interested to see what all this was about.

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

There was a man walking around casually… ON FIRE! People were screaming and alarms were ringing, the sprinklers were on but they couldn’t do anything about the fire covering the man! But instead of screaming his head off with the pain, or trying to get the fire out, the man in question was simply staring at his hands which were on fire with a bewildered look on his face. The 3 minute video ended with the fire simply vanishing leaving the man without a single burn on his body! As I said… WHAT THE FUCK!!

I looked through the comments and the top comment was: “Like if you all love these new abilities.” Huh…?

The second comment was, “Damn I wish I had a fire ability! All I got was a useless ability that lets me observe things... pfft! Comment your abilities below!” Again… huh??

Third comment: “Like if you still don’t know what your ability is!”

The hell is this shit?? Ability ability ability… Everywhere I look people are talking about abilities.

That does it… when in doubt: Google!

The next hour was… crazy to say the least. I got my mind blown over and over again.

Apparently, people all over the world somehow got one ability each, no one knows how or where the abilities come from, all anyone knows is millions and millions of people all over the world have these abilities now, with the number increasing every second. The reason why the number keeps increasing is because people keep discovering what they can do now. It seems you have to discover what your ability is yourself, and when you do your mind will tell you that you have discovered it and some information about what you can do now.

I also somehow ended up on Youtube and watched a lot of videos of people showing off their new found abilities. Social media and the internet were going crazy. Needless to say I was going crazy too!

First thing’s first, I gotta find my own ability! With my heart pumping and excitement filling my mind, I got off my bed and opened up my bag, took out a notebook and a pen and jumped back in. My plan: to make a list of all abilities I can think of and  try to ‘do’ them one by one to see which one is mine. As for why I am using a pen and paper to list down and not just simply listing it down on my laptop or mobile, it’s because I prefer paper over screens. Call me old-fashioned or whatever, but unlike everyone else in my generation I don’t like technology much...

I opened up my notebook and flipped through the pages… a little too fast… OUCH!! FUUUUUCCCCKKKKK!!!

A MOTHERFUCKING PAPER CUT!! AAAAHHHHH!!!

I am no softie, but a paper cut HURTS! It’s like the paper cuts through to your very soul!

I put my slightly bleeding finger in my mouth and sucked a bit to stop the bleeding… and suddenly…

What….?

That was my voice I just heard… in my mind! An emotionless and somehow robotic version of my voice, but nonetheless it was my voice. And what was it that ‘I’ told myself…? My new ability is being able to absorb the abilities of others by drinking their blood…? WHAT. THE. FUCK!

This all seems too surreal… I have to go back to my trusty friend: google.

I searched “How do you know what your ability is?” and found out that what happened to me was pretty much how it was supposed to be. You somehow have to find your ability, by accident or on purpose, and your own voice will tell you in your mind what the ability is and a little information on the ability.

Next I searched for “Unique abilities” and found out what I was expecting: Unique abilities are, as their name suggests, unique. Only one person in the entire world population can have a particular unique ability. So far 3 people with unique abilities have been discovered, and the 3 abilities are: Invincibility, control and morphing.

Invincibility makes the person invincible, nothing can hurt the guy no matter what you do. Control gives the person control over everything, the elements, the weather and even control over people! Morphing makes the person able to morph into anything they desire, and they will get the abilities of whatever form they morph into. So if the person morphs into a fish, breathing underwater will be possible but staying on the land will kill you. If the person morphs into another person, they will be able to use that person’s ability till they are in that form.

TOO OP! These unique abilities are too overpowered!!

Hmmm… Now that I think about it, my absorption ability is overpowered too isn’t it? Come to think of it, if I met these 3 unique ability people I could absorb their abilities too! There’s just the small matter of drinking their blood… Let’s push that thought aside for now…

But seriously, my ability is just too much. And I don’t even know much about it! Will I get diseases from drinking blood or will this ability of mine stop that from happening? How much blood do I have to drink, will a drop do or do I have to drink more? My power is called absorption, does that mean I absorb the abilities of others and take it away from them or will they still be able to use their abilities even after I have ‘absorbed’ them? Do I have to drink blood from people while they are still alive or will drinking blood from dead bodies do?

Ok… the last question makes me sick. Seriously… why does this ability come with me having to drink blood?!?

Alright, calm down. Let’s think about this logically. People now have abilities that basically enables them to become superheroes. People are also generally assholes, which means most of the people will try to use these new abilities for their own personal gains. There will most probably be people who band together and use their abilities to cause chaos, it’s only a matter of time before this happens.

This means that I have a much better chance of being able to avoid all the chaos compared to others, but for that I need to absorb abilities as quickly as possible. I have to take advantage of the calm right now while people are still figuring things out.

So what if I have to drink some blood every now and then? It’s at least a break from all the boring non-stop days of me going to the university, pretending to be happy among my ‘friends’, coming home and reading novels or watching TV-series etc.

I have to drink blood to get stronger huh…? I think things are about to become very interesting…
