A Special Request

A Special Request

At around 8:30, Kagumi awoke from his interrupted slumber. It was a fairly bright day, there were few clouds and birds could be see flying through the sky. Kagumi stood up from his noticeably ragged bed and started to stretch. While Kagumi wasn't one to complain, he really wished that he could sleep in an actual bed sometimes. After his morning stretches, he walked over to a nearby river to wash himself off. He took a quick bed and put on his usual clothes: a slightly torn black shirt and grey pants with old boots that looked better thrown in the trash than worn. Kagumi decided to skip breakfast and started to head out of the small clearing and into his home town of Aclarya.

'A bit of stealing from the bakery and some water from the well will be enough for the week,' were Kagumi's thoughts before entering the bustling town. He never liked the town, and almost none of the townspeople like him, so he felt no remorse for stealing from the local baker who had the biggest grudge against him. He was banned from his shop almost every time he came. Kagumi built a bit of a reputation as the "uncatchable thief" due to his abilities at running and parkour to escape shopkeeper and even some of the slower guards. Slipping near the bakery undetected, he noticed that the townspeople gave him weary looks, some even clutching their things closer to them. Kagumi could not care in the slightest. He knew he kind of deserved it for being such a troublemaker.

As he started to take his 3rd loaf of wheat bread, he was able to predict the hand of the baker trying to snatch the back of his shirt. Kagumi has always had some sort of sixth sense that allowed him to predict movements around him. While he never understood what type of magic he unconsciously had active all of the time, he chalked it up to some sort of bloodline from his parents. Swiftly dodging the hand of the peeved baker, he started to run into the closest alleyway. He came up with a plan to escape nearly on the spot: get to the clutter of junk near the back alleys and jump onto a close building.

"Come back here you damn brat! You won't escape me this time!" yelled the surprisingly fast baker, following him through the narrow and cluttered alleyways. As Kagumi was parkouring in the more cluttered parts of the alley, he started to gain some height, hoping to make it to the top of a nearby building soon. But that hope came crashing down as he accidentally stepped on a loose wooden pole, causing him to lose his balance and fall on his back. Kagumi only had time to release a painful grunt before swiftly getting back up, now questioning if he would be able to escape this time.

In his lack of focus on his surroundings, he hit something that felt like a person in the middle of the narrow street he was about to cross. He fell on his butt, looking up to see a person that was around 6 feet tall, 6 inches taller than him. His short orange hair was clearly cut for practicality rather than style. He wore light armor with an insignia on his left pauldron that signified his position in the kingdom of Solsaria as a royal guard. He stood with a calm and fortified stance, not even budging from the unseen tackle. To his right was a girl with bright yellow hair tied into a ponytail on her back. She was around 2 inches taller than him. She wore a tan tunic and brown shorts and fancy combat boots. She also wore leather arm and leg guard, which Kagumi thought was weird. She poked around the holy knight's legs to see the scene unfolding before her.

"Hey, you! Stop that damn brat before he gets away! He stole my food!" was the yell that made Kagumi freeze. An exasperated baker, sweat dripping from his forehead, had finally caught up to him. Is this his karma? Shockingly, the knight ignored the request of the baker and started to talk to Kagumi.

"Kagumi Tsukiko, am I right?" Was the knights question. Kagumi was very confused, but decided to go with the flow anyways. He knew he had no choice but to answer since he couldn't outrun a Holy Knight even in his peak condition.

"Yes. How do you know my name and what is your business with me? I'm in a hurry." Was Kagumi's formal, yet slightly rushed, response. He didn't feel like dealing with this right now.

"Kagumi Tsukiko. I, Holy Knight Amado, was assigned to find and deliver you to the capitol as quickly as possible. King Togiro wants to meet with you to discuss a matter I cannot share with you currently. Please let me take you to the Capitol quickly and quietly." were the monotone, nearly robotic orders stated by who Kagumi now knew as Holy Knight Amado. Now, Kagumi was by no means of the word stupid. He was actually extremely intelligent for a child his age. He knew that the best situation for him to be in was talking to the king at the Capitol, rather than being lobbed to the prison guards and serving a sentence for stealing. With that knowledge, Kagumi simply sighed and allowed the knight to nearly instantly make it to the front of the Capitol. Whatever the king wanted, Kagumi simply knew it would be troublesome.

Back at the narrow street, the baker simply stood there in a stupor. He couldn't understand how the brat got away that fast. He simply sat down and let out a defeated sigh. He knew he was never going to catch the kid no matter what.

"Dammit, I need to stop drinking as much." were his final thoughts in the street before heading back to his shop.
