Despite how happy I was to obtain a new move, I decided that what I needed now were not techniques but cultivation materials.

The first thing I did was jump on the temple’s roof to see further. Once I reached it I gazed at my surroundings. A sea of trees. with some mountains in the distance, I tried using my nose: nothing.

Given the situation I decide to resort to my experience as a hunter and to the scientific method to making a stick stand, letting it go, and then following the direction the stick has fallen to.

And north-east it is.

I started running as fast as I could by keeping the maximum range of spirit sense, 1 km, hoping to run into some precious magical herbs to help me break through.

As I was going I noticed that the surroundings on my left were somewhat eerie and I could smell the scent of yin qi coming from there. I decided to change course.

And head into the eerie part of the forest.

Of course, I would go, where else I would find some yin herbs?

As I was going in a series of presences entered the range of perception, they were… above?

I looked up and noticed a great number of dog-sized spiders descending from the trees using their webs and yin qi to hide themselves.

The latter was the reason I didn’t notice them until now, that and the fact my spirit sense was spread horizontally and not vertically.

Anyway, I decided to make the first move and I rammed one of the trees. The spiders using that trunk to descend fell off and I finished off with some simple qi enhanced attacks. At this point, the spiders started to descend rapidly and approached me to bite me.

I decided to expand my spirit sense range towards the treetops and what I saw worried me. Thousands of spiders were moving in waves to me without ending in sight.

I decided to ignore them and focus going towards the source of the yin smell. Not that they could hurt me anyway since they were rank demonic beasts.

I filled my muscles with YinYang qi and charged my way through the horde, smashing every spider in my way. After a while, the spiders started to grow more restless and I knew that I was going in the right direction.

Then at some point, I found myself in a clearing surrounded by spiders from all sides. Then from a mass of webs exited two calf-sized spiders: they were rank 3.

One charged me while the other showed his back and started to shoot me its webs.

I started fighting the giant spider while evading the approaching webs, the problem was that my yin-infused paws and claws were hardly effective against this opponent. The only good side was that the same could be said of its attacks. The stalemate lasted for a while until my opponent at some point retreated with a jump.

Only now I noticed that a lot of spiders were showing their back at me.

‘Oh shit’

They shot me a barrage of webs so packed that there was no way to dodge. I was stuck to the ground and could hardly move. I tried to use my yin qi-infused paws to destroy the webs but they were surprisingly resistant. It was then I realized I had been a fool.

I should use Yang Qi instead.

I coated my whole body with yang qi and the webs melted like snow in front of a raging fire. And I looked like one with my fur glowing with a raging golden glow.

The spiders retreated a bit as if scared by the display. Then the two rank 3 spiders charged me.

“Stop”

From around us sounded an old grandmotherly voice. “What do you want, young one? I can tell that you have unlocked your wisdom just as I did”

I started to try to find the origin of the voice but it seemed to come from all around us. Then I pondered how to respond.

I let out a weak roar.

“Hmm, it seems you haven’t yet discovered how to talk using your spirit sense. Just use it to vibrate the air the closer it is to you the easier it is.”

I tried a few times and with some effort, I managed to get out a voice. While I was trying I was able to discover the origin of the voice: inside the webs was a 3 m high spider that seemed rather weak despite its size.

(I) “Thanks for the advice. As for why I am here is some yin magical herbs”

(Spider) “If that’s all you want then take them and then go and never come back please.”

I thought for a while and realized that I had charged into their home, killed some of them and now I was going to rob them.

But then it came to me that if I had been weaker I would have become their meal. Here lies the law of the jungle. There is no right or wrong, only might matter.

(I) “I accept”

I had long noticed some dark tulips growing near the mass of webs. I took a couple of them inside my inventory and then left.
