Trial

Ragnarok:

Everything's set in place, my proposal is out and the trial will be going exactly as expected. No one can suppress their greed and the leviathans will surely have it their way. Two faced beasts that's what they are, both of them. Finding what I'm looking for on this planet was a touch of luck along with intuition.

"Where are we going next? Show yourself to me, my dear Valkyrie." I said aloud.

The shadow of a woman spawned behind me and soon from it she emerged. Caera, the harlequin, my most trusted advisor and second in command also one of the last alive valkyries. Short haired, black suit, if it weren't for the wings on her back and the wings on her crown that are not really attached to her, and are just floating above, you could never guess she's a valkyrie.

"Cancrie, Ringmaster."

"The diamond planet, excellent. For whom?"

"Some rich family wants to throw a party for the marriage of their kid. No special target."

"Sometimes it's just business I guess. We will take our fill from the planet's resources."

Strolling around she didn't say anything else but I can see that she's troubled about something so I will make small talk until my point.

"Did you know the planet used to be covered in lava, and the beings there were lava golems, until magic happened and the planet made a conversion to a big blue-green gigantic diamond surface. The citizens also went through a metamorphosis of sorts and now they are beings made of diamonds, keeping their golem like features still, albeit more human. Fascinating isn't it?" I said not showing my expression to her.

"Yes, Ringmaster."

Turning around in a second I asked her point blank with a big grin of my face: "You know you can't hide it from me so spill it out or I'll force you to do so, what's bothering you? What's your question?"

At that moment I saw the harlequin composure shatter a bit, but she regained it the next second.

"Why did you return to earth? What's so special about that human?"

I guess it only makes sense, powerful as she might be, she doesn't have the insight I do into the souls of others.

"He's ... special ... Inside him there's a former angel, one which chose to cut his own wings off and forsake his title ... his whole essence even. Very deeply hidden but is there, if you have enough insight you can see traces of draconic lineage ... and more than anything his mental state makes him the perfect target. He walks a fine line between sanity and insanity, a fine balance that was tipped recently and very soon he'll make the decision I expect him to make. He will have to find us still, I'll not be making this easy and as special as his lineage might be ... nothing that can't be replaced."

I said to her changing my expression to serious and my eyes prying deep into her thoughts to see if her uneasiness got cleared.

"Understood." So she said and so she felt.

Moving on from her face I stared at the ceiling, not being able to hold my excitement I raised my arms as in a victory pose and screamed, letting a bit of my bloodlust out in the open, my face transformed into one of a maniac.

"Let's move on then, we have business to attend to, money to make and more planning to do. Also Caera, dear, how is my 'dog'?"

Adonai:

The jury selection finished yesterday which means now I'm going to the murder trial I initiated after Kathlyn's death. They thought I wouldn't dare to come after them but I did and if somehow the judge rules in their favor it won't end up good for me. But I have faith that it won't end like that.

The Judge, Matthew Hopkins, a human suggested by none other than the human side of the government so if anything the bias should be in my favor. If I have to go through mud and underhanded schemes to see these two bastards behind bars I'll do so.

"Good morning" Maverick said, greeting me, he came here today with Stella, both wanting to be present for this moment.

"Morning." I said, keeping my mouth shut after.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Silence overtook us, they were looking at me like I'm a bit mad for going with this, but I didn't care.

"You ... don't look very good." Stella said in a small voice.

The effects of this incident were more minimal on her, seemingly she and Maverick started dating so now she has a person she can rely on. I wish I could say I'm happy for them but these days I don't even know what happiness is anymore.

"The voices keep me up at night, they don't let me go, they keep blaming me... I keep blaming myself... we should enter."

And so we entered the court of law. Maverick and Stella took a seat while I stayed beside my attorney, one that Kathlyn's parents recommended. Seeing on the other side the two monsters that are the source of my undying rage.

"Stand up!" The Judge entered the room.

"We will be starting the murder trial, deceased: Kathlyn Duska, the suspects: Tyrannosaurus Brothers."

You've got to be kidding me.

"Mr. Adonai, you and your lawyer opening statements please."

I stood up with my lawyer and I started giving a horrendously detailed explanation of how the whole altercation went. And the effects it has on my mind. My lawyer only helped me articulate my points even further.

"The accused, your opening statements now."

They stood up and looked me in the eye with a smirk on their face and an attitude that wanted to make me jump and kill them both myself... but I can't.

"Your honor, we were drunk that night and we admit to it. But we were not the first one to attack or provoke. Ms. Duska and her barbarian boyfriend present right here were the ones to engage. Me and my poor little brother here could only defend ourselves."

"WHAT?" I jumped from my seat at the blatantly false truth.

"Sit down and let them finish!" The judge demanded.

And so I did, not listening or arguing at this point would make things only worse.

"Yes your honor, you see what I'm talking about, such brute, they took my brother hostage and wanted to blackmail me. So I had to resort to violence. I had to defend myself!" The bigger brother said, with a victim display on his face and his behavior, almost outraged that this trial even exists.

Hold yourself together, I told myself, but something deeper inside me was boiling.

"As a result, we had to kill Ms. Duska before she could kill us, it was clearly self defense... And we even have a witness."

A witness? Who? There was no one there.

"Who's your witness?"

The bigger brother looked down and smirked, something the judge and the jury couldn't see, then gave me a side eye.

"Mr. Golgotha son."

An audible shock could be heard from everyone present in the room.

"As you can see your honor, with the presence of such an esteemed witness and the outrageous declarations presented. I say we lock Mr. Adonai for starting this trial even."

"THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!" Strangely enough it wasn't only my own voice who left my mouth but someone else as well, while the vision in my left eye changed. "HOW CAN YOU EVEN SPOUR SUCH BLATANT LIES WITH SUCH STRAIGHT FACE, MY(HIS) LOVER, BEST FRIEND DIED IN YOUR BARBARIC HANDS AND YOU DARE TO STAND AND LIE RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY(HIS) FACE.

Blinded by rage and fury I ignored the judge's warnings and kept going.

"YOU SAID SELF DEFENSE? WAS IT AN ACCIDENT THEN? TELL ME WHY DID YOU RAPE THEN KILL HER, WHY ARE YOU UNSCRATCHED? WHY IS SHE DEAD YET YOU STAND HERE WITH NOT EVEN A PHYSICAL TRAUMA." Ah... this is not my rage alone, this is someone else's rage as well, it's his rage... but why now.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" The judge screamed. "Mr. Adonai take back your seat or I'm sorry to say I'll be forced to kick you out of this courtroom and have this case dismissed."

"I'm afraid there are no evidence to prove your point, Mr. Adonai. Their lawyer said. After all, the body was too mutilated due to the combat that happened because of you."

I forced myself to calm down, the vision in my left eye turning back to normal.

"I'll wait for the jury to deliberate and in 15 minutes we will come back for the final verdict."

*Bonk*

The audible sound of a hammer hitting a wooden plate was heard.

I left the courtroom to calm myself down. But I was stopped on my way to the bathroom by the brothers. Who should've not under any circumstance approach me.

"You think you're a hot shot huh? Such cheap tricks with your eyes and your voice, listen to me dip-shit, you're nothing, you will be nothing and more than anything this case will be in our favor so prepare yourself. Cause after this is over we will silence you for good."

Consumed by the rage before and not caring anymore I turned my head to face them and said "..." Nothing.

15 minutes later.

"The court has decided that the Tyrannosaurus Brothers are not guilty and are free to leave. And at the same time Mr. Adonai is free to leave and will be excused from his behavior because of his trauma."

Two people told me the same thing, that it is a lost case. I could feel the presence of the burning red eyes on my back yet when I looked he wasn't here.

Looking back at the jury I could see the brothers walking up to him and handing him a bag, along with a pat on the back.

There I realized, I took it all in, this world is already doomed.Their witness never showed up, it was here just in name… and that was enough. Leviathans aren't here to be equals, they are here to enslave us. It all made sense ... I should've not trusted Varuna's words.

Not having the power or the will to fight anymore I left without saying a word to anyone else.

It is a rainy day... and as I'm walking towards my home I'm rethinking my choices yet again. This is all my fault but corruption isn't something I decided alone… It's something we brought upon ourselves.

Stopping in my way at the beginning of a crossroad I looked back on the road I just came from and I sighted.

"I guess there's nothing left here for me anymore."
