A dream ... a premonition

A dream ... a premonition

Adonai:

"It's been a while since I've been in this room, it is as white as I remember." I said aloud.

"At least I'm glad you're not a scared cat anymore, when you ended up here the first time I could feel it. Now, Boy, it's time we have our first proper conversation, surely you remember my voice."

From deep within the infinite white a silhouette showed up. I recognize the voice, a voice of a man, but this is the first time I see something to associate the voice with, not like it's much anyway. The silhouette is so disproportionate that might as well be a mix of everything.

"So, you're the one who gave me advice after that strange dream."

"Indeed I am, it's been a while, human child."

The first time I came here the pressure was immeasurable but now I can at least stand on my own. And most importantly I need to find out who this stranger residing in my soul is, and how they ended up here.

"Irrelevant, I won't tell you anything right now, I didn't appear before you so that you can ask me futile questions." He responded to my own thoughts. "You can't hide anything from me, you're not strong enough to do so and I've been here long enough to know your ins and outs, you're just an open book to me, boy."

"What does long enough mean?" I asked.

"... I've been here since the moment you were born, and I've lived long enough before that."

Meaning he's an outsider which made its home out of my soul, but how? I thought magic wasn't a thing before the revelation.

"You're wrong ... let me give you a piece of advice. DO NOT take anything the dragons or the other races say at face value, there's much more that you don't know, that your race doesn't know, it was hidden, it was wiped, just like for others before you, consider yourself lucky to be alive even."

"I appear before you right now not to give you a history lesson anyway. They are here, they stay here, they will make the decision ultimately, a decision outside of your influence, so I wouldn't worry about it in your place. But your decision comes after, so tell me will you stay?"

What is he even talking about? This doesn't make any sense.

"... I thought you would be a bit brighter considering who your parents were but I guess not." *Sigh* "I'm talking about your decision to stay here or to leave the planet."

"Leave the planet?"

"The teleportation gates are a two way street, they can teleport you to the closest one, or somewhere else, on neutral planets you'll find teleport hubs that can lead you anywhere. The gates on your planet are fixed, but modifiable gates exist."

"Why leave?" I asked.

"Because you can, obviously, because you will have things you want to do."

Things I will want to do? What's that supposed to mean, I just made it so that I'll be able to not take part in anything big, so why would I leave? I asked myself, forgetting that the thing next to me can hear.

...

"Because things don't go as planned, pure mana is not something made so that you can take shelter in being weak, pure mana is far more dangerous than you can imagine ... but I will not be the one to educate you in such trivial matters." He said and then continued "So I'm asking you again, what do you want to do?"

...

"Thinking to myself is useless anyway so I'll be direct, I have no idea what you're talking about, I just know everything I know from a book. I know you know I didn't take everything the dragon said at face value, or as an ultimate truth. And as of right now I plan to continue what I'm already doing, being a nobody, living my life peacefully and along with my friends, since they are my family. No matter what choices they make, I'll support them."

...

[□□□]:

Foolish human, idiot human, right after I told him things don't go as planned, he keeps saying how he wants everything to go and how he envisions it. A plan is not wrong, but having full expectations that such a plan will go smoothly is nothing short of a delusion.

"Then let me ask you this, if something terrible were to happen to one of your closest ones, would you be able to give me the same answer? Will you not come to regret your decisions? Will you not come to regret the decision of being weak?"

Adonai, the human I've watched over since the day he was born, was not trying to hide his thoughts from me anymore, but he still took his time empty minded.

"I guess I'll cross that bridge when it comes, speaking in possibilities is as bad if not worse than planning ahead ... but let me ask you something. Why are you here?"

At least another question I've expected.

"Failsafe, I'm just a mere, limited, failsafe." I said as cold as I talked until now, he probably still can't make right and left of my actual form, but in time, with more exposure he'll be able to see me.

"I guess you won't tell me more than that ... is it true that magic can achieve anything?"

Foolish.

"With enough practice, yes, but the road to perfection is one filled with hardships and despair, if you'll go down that road... let me tell you a saying that a special person once told me and may these be your guiding words if in the future you'll go down this path." I said.

'Make up your mind that no matter what comes your way, no matter how difficult, no matter how unfair, you will do more than simply survive. You will thrive in spite of it.'

Adonai:

"I got it, this conversation told me almost nothing, if anything it made me more confused. But I'll think about your words... and if it ever comes down to regretting my choices, well not if, it will surely happen, in what form is yet to be seen. But I'll get over it, time heals everything. Right?"

"I'm afraid you are mistaken, your constitution doesn't allow for such a thing, you cannot forget/heal, you WILL NOT forget/heal. He said as he was approaching me, the mix of shapes staying right in my face, and what I could make out of everything was a pure filled white eye staring at me.

As the amalgamation of shapes blocked my vision I felt the coldness of a blade going up my spine, stopping at my neck.

"I'm afraid we're out of time ... and I have nothing else to say to you either, may my greatsword send you back to your senses. [□□□□□bolg]

As he said what I assumed was the name of a sword I could not understand I snapped back to reality and found myself sitting in the lap of a very beautiful damsel.

"Am I in heaven?" I asked after opening my eyes.

"You will be, if you don't get up and forget about this incident, I'll book you an express ticket there as a matter of fact." She said while gently putting two fingers on my neck, showing me nothing short of a death smile.

I hurried and got up and looked around me only to find myself in a restaurant, bewildered by my surroundings I couldn't help but ask.

"Why am I here? Wait, why are you here?"

"Wrong, that's not what you should ask the girl you invited out yourself." *Sigh* "While I was talking you suddenly passed out, but it seemed like you were dreaming so I let you be, you better be grateful."

"Oh thank you my goddess. I'll never forgive what you did for a lowly life such as myself

"Very good, now are you okay?"

I guess I can't tell her that a random dude who happens to reside inside my soul just snatched me to talk. Or can I?

"So a random dude who happens to reside inside my soul just snatched me wanting to have a talk, that's why I passed out." I said that without a hint of a joke in my tone.

"I'm calling an ambulance, just stay with me." She replied deadpan while reaching for her phone.

"I'm joking, I don't know, guess I was just tired."

...

"So may I ask you something?"

"So polite all of a sudden, just ask." She replied.

"You think you can get over regret? let's say if you come to regret something you have done, will you be able to forget it or do you think it will haunt you for the rest of your life?" I asked in a rather pathetic scared tone.

I guess what that entity said to me before leaving really stuck with me. 'You WILL NOT forget if you come to regret something.'. I've always asked the question myself to be honest, will I ever regret my choices right now? And the answer is just as obvious, but the true meaning is will I be able to heal/forget the grief of the outcome?

Kath seems to be taking her time to think about the answer, I wonder what's on her mind... if only I could share the space in her soul maybe I could read her like that dude read me.

"I think regrets are inevitable, as you probably know, how big the regrets are will be the detrimental factor on how long it will linger, but eventually time heals everything. Or at least patches the heart mostly, but the idea of doing things differently will always remain, will always be present. So don't worry much about it."

"Wow, you really gave me a response I didn't expect."

*Sigh* "You know, I may be the way you see most of the time, but even I have a hidden side, even I have secrets no one knows."

I guess she is right, I shouldn't worry too much about it, and take the approach of crossing the bridge when it happens, but still...

"Besides, if you're set to do something you should not think too much about it, and just try your best to achieve your goal right? I'll tell you something someone very special told me once."

'Make up your mind that no matter what comes your way, no matter how difficult, no matter how unfair, you will do more than simply survive. You will thrive in spite of it'

"Aren't those words inspiring?" She asked me.

"What?" I couldn't help but appear shocked and scared at the sound of that phrase ... What's the meaning of all this?

"It's time to wake up... sleeping beauty." She said as her face with everything around me disappeared, leaving me in an infinite falling status.

"AAAAAAAAA!"

I suddenly woke up in my bed, sweating with nothing and no one around me in the room that obliterated sunlight, as I heard footsteps approaching, the door opened and she came into view.

"ARE YOU OKAY!?" Kath was here, strangely enough, she rushed to my side, scared, checking for fever.

"What happened?" I asked, still sweating.

"We were out, you passed out and when you came back you started talking till you fainted again, but this time you had a fever so I rushed with you to the hospital and then home, I've spent the night here waiting for you to wake up. So ARE YOU OKAY!? You made me scared for good."

"... Yea... I'm fine."
