He found the perfect place, a giant lopsided boulder that had an outcropping of a few other stones, there was a hollow basin between two of the stones and a flat area of stone over it. It would be perfect as it was practically invisible from more than a pace away. The he heard another crack louder than the last the ground beneath his feet started to move and shake his perfect sleeping spot groaned then the large flat stone caved in and collapsed on what would have been his head. Kadin knew where this was coming from he looked back along his path and the shaking and rumbling got louder and greater. He saw as if in slow mothing the side of the mountain start to expand and bulge and with a tremendous groan then BOOM! What looked like half the mountain side came crashing down. Kadin could see where the demon city was as the giant hollow filled and a cascade of earth and stone came pouring down one side of the mountain it looked like a flood of stone and debris. His hopes raised as it looked like the land itself chose to throw out the demon horde and brought a mountain down on them. But it wasn’t the case as the dust settled Kadin could see a tiny little light in the darkness that had now fallen this point was now at the top of what was now a large hill a small plateau and a gently sloping hill to the ground. He knew that point of land was the portal, and the demons somehow changed the landscape to give them a nice easy path out of their world into this one. He chanced a little of his magical energies to his senses to see if his long sense could get a better look. After a brief cast where he saw an army already out of the portal pouring down the hill in all directions as an ocean of demons still flowed into this world Kadin came to the conclusion ‘he wasn’t that tired after all’. He turned towards the general direction of the barrier and ran.

Despite everything Kadin couldn’t keep his pace up for long, and after the initial frantic sprint he settled back down into a measured pace that he was able to sustain. This pace however was slowing down and no where near his best, for the countless time on this contract he wished for a horse,
Every few minutes Kadin would turn to look behind himself to ensure he was not being followed .. well he was but at least he was far enough ahead for it not to feel that way, as he turned back round to push forwards he tripped and stumbled over nothing, dragging himself up again and pushing on. It was an effort of sheer just to take one more step, then another, he would set himself a goal of an outcropping of land, a boulder, or other feature on the landscape saying to himself just need to get there, then on to the next one, it wasn’t a days hike out of the blasted lands it was a series of about a hundred short walks – but even that was getting more and more difficult, until he saw a small rock pile on the ground in front of him, he couldn’t do it anymore. Saying to himself
‘I will just sit and rest for a few moments’, and so he sat down the rocks shifted and moved under him settling themselves a thought of
‘hmm this is surprisingly comfortable’, before his eyes drooped and slowly closed, he forced himself alert with a start, but after a second his eyes were closing again until he just couldn’t stay awake anymore.
