17 i tracker

Kadin was worried that the tracks might become hard to follow, especially as they ran for a bit then disappeared then ran on again; but he needn’t have worried as the path was pretty much a straight line heading north east. It was about a day and a half ride to the barrier from the village of Lynwood so his target wouldn’t be in the blasted lands yet and now since Kadin had a horse and the necromancer didn’t he was hoping he could catch up before he needed to cross the barrier but it would be close, he also however thought that the constant jump teleporting that his quarry was using would end quickly as it would take so much magical energies to use over and over like he was. But Kadin was surprised as the day wore on and the tracks continued like they had been. As dusk began the tracks were getting harder and harder to follow because of the dimming light, Kadin debated going on through the night to catch up – but he had only slept for a few hours over the last few night and he felt the fatigue at the edge of him mind, pulling him down and the dull ache it caused in his muscles, so when he could barely see the tracks in the light anymore he decided to take a brake – but first he jumped down from the horse and used his magic to create a light orb that would hover about his hand and he bent down to examine the tracks in more detail he could tell a lot from the tracks that were there , he could tell his target was no longer running but walking the strides and depressions of his boot prints were regular and steady so he didn’t seem to be injured or favouring one side to the other and unfortunately for him that he didn’t seem to be making up as much ground as he had hoped. If things kept on as they were he thought that his contract would be about at the border anytime now .. which meant that Kadin couldn’t get away from it – he was going to need to cross the barrier.

Kadin set up a quick camp and tended to horse he also set a small fire but as there was little in the way of fuel it would not last the night. Also there were no good camp sites and the land was barren and rugged the best he could do was to use some oiled wool held down on one end by some rocks and held up at the other end by some of the few bits of wood that he could find – it was enough to block the wind at and he used the fire to cook a quick meal and had a few more drinks for the wine Roy gave it was getting light so he thought to himself he would just finish it so he kept drinking and all too soon it was gone, he realised that he had probably drank a bit more than he should have but with a warm feeling and slightly buzzed head he just set out his sleeping roll in his makeshift tarp.. it had been a long and rough few days and with his tired mind there was something that he thought he still needed to do .. or something that he was forgetting, as he lay there he felt sleep pulling at him but there was some small part of his mind still screaming in defiance, trying to make its voice heard.

Then it hit him; his cloaks hood wasn’t up, so he quickly pulled up his hood and even as he did so he felt a little more aware not as exhausted as he had before. He pulled out the talisman that Roy gave him and looked at it. Was this what caused that voice, this that issued its warnings to him? He didn’t know but he did feel a burst of anger in his chest – that he still seemed to be under a mental attack, sleep was claiming him he couldn’t fight it anymore his last fleeting thought was that must mean the necromancer had set up camp for the night too to focus on his mental assault, he would catch up tomorrow.
