Part 2 "Fate or Simple Coincidence?"

Part 2 "Fate or Simple Coincidence?"

We never know how our life will turn out. It's like a roulette, where every event is completely random. However, there are times when we ourselves can influence the probability of new events. This is perhaps our strength.

I stood there waiting. In front of me was the luxurious Sangwit residence. Everything was as expected, right in front of the incredibly beautiful piece of architecture there was a huge fence blocking half of the wonderful view, there was a bell for guests, and a little lower there was a lock with a pin code. On both sides there were flower beds with various flowers and luxurious trees, thanks to which the perception of the place was much more pleasant. At first glance, you can’t tell what exactly could be hiding behind.

I still felt doubts, because this job would completely overlap my previous life. I can’t leave this place without warning, even if it’s urgent. Every time I’ll have to contact Lady Isara. This thought was even more frightening. Mr. Niwat made it clear to me that she’s not the kind of person who likes to talk. This means that the more I spin around in front of her eyes, the more often she’ll feel irritated. Then how will I be able to fulfill my duties? While I was turning my head, I finally noticed the camera.

A couple of minutes later the gate opened, although I still didn’t dare ring the bell.

- Good afternoon, as I understand, you are the new employee Marta. - A well-groomed middle-aged man came out to me. - My name is Anon, I am the manager of this house. Please come in.

I nodded gratefully and went inside. I think he noticed that I was nervous, but he didn't say anything.

We walked to the house through a large courtyard. It was very clean here. Greenery and various decorations for the general atmosphere, a fountain and a path leading right to the main door. I think I even saw a small gazebo in the distance. I wanted to stop and take a closer look, but suddenly I noticed a young woman from the side, she was standing in the middle of the courtyard tearing out pages from her notebook. I froze, watching her.

Anon: This is Lady Sawika, the middle daughter of the Sangwit family. Even though you are completely subordinate to Lady Isara, you will still have to take into account the opinions and instructions of other family members. - He paused. - Lady Sawika is quite a pleasant person. Even though she goes against her own family's ideas, you can always talk to her in a relaxed atmosphere. That's what sets her apart from her sisters, I suppose.

Marta: May I know how many daughters Mr. Sangwit has in total?

Anon: Three daughters. The eldest Lady Isara, the middle Lady Sawika and the youngest Lady Fai. I think we can discuss this another time, but for now I will show you the house and your room, please come in.

Marta: Yes...Thank you. - I didn't know what else to tell him.

When we got inside, I experienced a kind of shock. The house was large and divided into several parts - 3 floors. The first floor was divided into two wings. The first was the living room where guests could sit or family members could relax. The second was the staff rooms and the kitchen. Even without lingering too long, you could hear the voices of other workers who were actively doing something.

- Hey, Mali, where are you running off to! - A loud female voice was indignant about something.

- Sorry, Rada! It was an accident!

The manager and I came closer to understand the reason for such exclamations.

Anon: Why such a noise. Don't you know the rules of this house or do you need to make comments every time? - He rudely put the poor women down.

Rada: Oh, come on. Your sad face only spoils my mood even more. - It seemed the cook didn't take him seriously at all.

Mali: That's right, we work non-stop. So what if we raised our voices a little? - The younger girl was wearing a servant's uniform.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

Rada: A little? I almost broke the dishes because of you! If I get fired, what will you do here alone?

Mali: Who would fire you? Lady Sawika wouldn't live a day without your cooking!

Anon: Stop this pointless dialogue. If you haven't noticed yet, we've hired a new employee. - The man pointed at me. - This is Marta, she will be Lady Isara's personal assistant. When he said the last, the other employees' eyes widened in horror. They immediately fell silent, not knowing how to respond.

Mali: I thought she was against it... - The girl said almost in a whisper.

Anon: This decision was made by Mr. Sangwit.

Rada: Poor girl, it will be very hard for you at first. - She said this addressing me.

Marta: Um..Excuse me?

Anon: You will discuss all this later. Please, let's go to the second floor. I will show you your room. - He interrupted us and pushed me forcibly towards the stairs.

Second floor. The floor where Lady Isara's study, her room, and my room were. There was a deathly silence here. Not a single voice could be heard, creating an even more gloomy atmosphere. Coming closer to the door, I noticed a Hall in front of me in which stood a lonely grand piano. This surprised me. As if enchanted, it stood out from the general background.

There was a click behind me. Khun Anon used the key to open the door to my room, then put it back in his pocket.

Anon: You may come in. Clean clothes are in the dresser to the right of your bed. - He turned around. - Opposite hf, Lady Isara's workroom, a little further down the corridor are her personal quarters. Do not enter her room without knocking. She does not like her silence to be disturbed. If she wants to come in to you, you have no right to refuse her. Therefore, be careful.

Marta: What do you mean? You mean I won't be able to lock the door? - I raised my voice without realizing it.

Anon: No. I will have the key to the room. However, I assure you, you do not need to worry about this. - But his words did not inspire confidence. He looked at his watch, and then added. - Lady Isara will show you everything else. The only thing I must warn you about is that you and any other worker are forbidden to go up to the third Floor. You are also not allowed to disturb Mr. Sangwit. If he wants to see you, you will be told. Also, most of your work will be supervised by Mr. Niwat. He may call you from time to time or write letters. So make sure you do not miss them. Is everything clear?

Marta: Yes, thank you for the explanation..

Anon: If you need me, you can find me on the first floor. - Soon the man left and I was left alone.

I entered the room and saw a large double bed, a chest of drawers and a small desk. There was also a special bell for emergencies and on the other side another cabinet and a mirror.

Marta: Well, well... - I opened the drawer and looked at the uniform I would have to wear around the house - White, black and grey. - I smiled bitterly. - At least something should make me happy. White, it's always good luck. - I took the clothes and started changing. Only then did I notice the inscription on the outside of the collar - "Marta". - This made me smile slightly. When I finished, I decided to go out into the hallway and go downstairs again. I was stopped by a loud and in some sense frightening voice behind the door opposite.

- You were put to work. Have you forgotten where the company's money goes? - She was in a bad mood and you could feel it even without seeing her face. I listened quietly, pressed against the wall. - You've already had two warnings. I don't advise you to play with me. - She must have finished because there was silence after that. I was already thinking of moving on, but suddenly a door opened right in front of my face. It was her, Lady Isara Sangwit.

A tall woman in a black suit. She had full lips and a neat nose. Straight long dark hair. I immediately noticed her eyes, they were like resin, a deep and frightening look. A shiver ran through my body. I wanted to hide, but there was nowhere to run. Even if I tried, I think she would not have allowed it. Our eyes met. We looked at each other without saying anything. Was it worth saying anything at all? I was in a panic.

Marta: Good afternoon, Lady Isara. My name is Marta, I am your new assistant. - I bowed my head, as I was afraid to see the reaction.

Isara: Has Anon shown you the house yet? - Luckily for me, there was no irritation in her voice like there had been on the phone a few minutes ago.

Marta: Partially yes, Lady Isara.

I could feel her displeasure. Most likely, it was because she was the one who had to show me the other part of the house and the yard. She clearly didn't like it.

Isara: I see.

Marta: I was told... I must accompany you. - I had to force the words out of myself.

Isara: Today you can be free - She answered coldly, getting ready to leave.

Marta: Lady Isara, I understand that…

Isara: No. It seems not. You don't understand the first time. - She interrupts, making it clear that she is not in the mood for conversation now, but instead of leaving me, she comes closer. - You should obey me first and foremost, not my family. - The woman said this as if there was nothing left of me alive now. The difference in our statuses was colossal, and it was not only that. She was 12 years older than me.

Marta: That's right, but I am also under the control of Mr. Sangwit.

There was silence between us. I couldn't turn away. And it seemed to me that with every second I was getting closer to my end. The pounding of my heart drowned out any thoughts. She seemed as confused as I was. However, not a single muscle moved on her face. After a moment, she pulled away and said.

Isara: Bring me a glass of water. I have to take a pill.

Marta: Water?

Isara: Take a glass from the kitchen and bring it to my office. - She repeated again, sighing tiredly.

Marta: Of course... - I lowered my head again. My hands were shaking.

That day seemed like the beginning of a real nightmare. Although deep down I tried to convince myself otherwise, the way the Lady looked at me made my heart clench. I followed her instructions and brought water to the office. However, she didn’t say anything more to me that day. Only before going to bed, I heard behind the door of my room: Good night. She said it without emotion.

“That’s right, it was expected. I just don’t understand.. Why does it bother me so much?”

It was our first meeting. The meeting after which my life began to change and I could not stop it.
