02 - Asher the Pre-Incarnated

After what must have been at least a few hours I explained to the so-called goddess, in great detail, what anime, and especially isekai, was. I think I finally finished.

After all, I can't expect her to have known all of that, having in mind how much more complex the universe I had known turned out to be.

In the meanwhile, the goddess created a nice boudoir, with fancy chairs and very grandiose bed, in which I lay in, after she offered it to me, most likely because she felt bad for me, seeing how I had already lain on the floor for a while.

"Mortal Cyrus, why is it that you want to get into such a world?" The goddess asked me.

"I'm something of a weeb," I told her.

I saw her nod but I'm not sure if I explained to her what one was. Under the haze of everything I told her I forgot if I did or not.

"Is there also something with RPG mechanics?" I asked.

"I am sorry but I also do not know what Arrpeegees are."

I spend another few hours telling the goddess everything I knew about video-games and RPGs.

And then she thought a bit, "I might already have just such a world for you."

I almost cried in joy.

I thought about the most popular isekai and tried to remember which ones had video game aspects to them.

Overlord? Yes. Slime-Isekai? Yep. Re:Zero? Nope. Tayna the Evil? No. Shield Hero? Yeah.

I guess the chance you have to get into a video-gamey world is sixty percent, which is actually pretty good. Video-gamey in this case not just meaning numbers and stats.

There are also the isekai which aren't actually isekai, like Spirited Away or Sword Art Online but as I said, they don't really fit the bill.

But dang, dying really sucked, and getting into a world you'd actually like is kind of hard work.

At least it wasn’t as cliché as dying to Truck-kun.

"So, what's the deal? Am I gonna get a cool ability from you? Am I going to be overpowered?"

"Cyrus, I'm sorry, but no. You will simply carry on living your life as you see fit until you pass away."

"There's no way you could possibly be serious. What if I die again when I'm eighteen? Or even younger?" I voiced my concerns.

"Don't worry. I'll have someone keep an eye on you for the rest of your life. And she'll see to it that you at least develop to your full maturity."

"Like a guardian angel of some sort?"

She shouted into the air and asked, "Faye, will you kindly meet your ward?" sounding oddly proud of herself as she stated, "I know the concept of angels from your world. She is a similar being, but we named them Paragons."

Another person materialized out of a ray of light.

Eh, she wasn’t to my taste at all.

She was much too little and had no chest at all, yet she had angelic wings and a bright halo over her purple hair.

Although I knew a few people who were into lolis, they might enjoy her looks, but I was really not the kind of man that was into them.

She answered, "Of course, my Goddess," and bowed low before Alexandra.

“You will keep an eye on this mortal, Cyrus, till the end of his days; see to it that he at least reaches adulthood.”

"Of course, my Goddess," she said, looking over to me and she gave me such a blank stare, absolutely no emotion radiated from her.

"She shall always be by your side," the goddess said as she turned to face me.

It might have been better if she didn't.

"I'm not sure if we'll become best friends but if she keeps me alive then it's all good," I shrugged.

A bright vortex appeared when Alexandra lightly moved her hand around.

Like the complete opposite of a black hole, it eliminated all the darkness around it.

Yeah, that must be a portal, what else could it be?

Faye lingered just a little bit above me, as a paragon of course she could fly, as I stood in front of the portal.

I waved the goddess goodbye.

"Cyrus, I wish you well, and good luck," remarked Alexandra.

"Thanks. I'm going to need that for sure."

I jumped in.
