Chapter 4 – Growing Up
Three months have passed.
A child, sitting on the floor and doing something which most children wouldn’t dare to do.
His entire body is glowing and little by little solidifying. Slowly the light is covered his whole body and stabilized around him. Then he started to sit there as he closed his eyes and started to meditate.
It seems as if he has a habit of doing this daily when no one is around the small cave house he is living in.
An hour has passed and light surrounded him slowly and he calmly opens his with an exhausted look.
Woden:[Well this is really exhausting]
Woden:[But this started to help me understand on how to use magic]
Woden:[Is my method really correct. Alright today I will finally try to use telepathy on Ellen ones she came back from shopping]
Woden:[Just remember on how my mom talked to on that day]
Woden:[But from the stories from Ellen on how she met my mom, I kind of understand how she didn’t freaked when she used telepathy on me and how our conversation went on]
Woden:[She is a women with scatter brain and does what is on her mind and doesn’t bother to hear other opinion. Well that helped me tough]
Sound of someone walking into the house.
Woden:[Ah. Ellen came home]

Ellen’s POV
Ellen:[Finally finished shopping for this month ration]
Ellen:[But really, that old coot, his eyes are really awful. Always looking me pervertedly]
Ellen: ”Ah. Master Woden. I came home after finishing shopping”
Ellen: (Smiling) “Really. Seeing Masters cute face helps me calm down”
Suddenly a childish voice echoed on my mind
“Ellen… Ellen…”
Ellen: (Startled by the voice, she soon carefully picks up Woden and tremblingly)”Who is there?”
Woden:[So it is successful. All right]
Woden:[mind voice]”Don’t be afraid Ellen, It’s me Woden”
Ellen: (Once again startled by the reply and Looking at Woden and placing him carefully at bed)”Demon that has possessed my Master, get out”(Yelling)
Woden:[mind voice] (He was happy because unlike his mother she didn’t gladly accepted that a child can speak)”Don’t worry nothing possess me. It is just that my mother Maria has transferred he knowledge to me that I can speak”
Ellen: (Unable to understand what just happened) “Really. Master you are not telling me lies right?”
Woden:[mind voice]”No. Not at all. Even you should know what kind absurd my mom is right”
Ellen: “Ah, that’s right. If its master the she should be able to do these kind of things, since she is absurdly strong”
Woden:[mind voice]”Well I know little about her absurdness from what happened to me and also from your stories and she passed me this spell to talk to others”
Ellen: (finally calm)”Yes. Wait then master could speak like this since the day he arrived here. And can even use magic at this young age”
Woden:[mind voice]”No no, just recently I got this information and learned only how to use this one”(Even she will find weird if I say yes)
Ellen: ”Is that so. Well master must be genius like Master Maria right. Then I want to only one thing master. What happened to Master Maria and your family since she didn’t tell me much about herself and only placed me here after I got purchased”
Woden: [Dang, I want to collect information but it goes other way around. What to do?]
Woden:[Alright, I will do this, mind voice]”Well if my memory serves correct, it seems my parents are friends with this kingdoms king and since there was danger lurking around them I was transferred here after I was born. So Ellen what happened after I have arrived? and why are calling me master since my mother should be you master right?”
Ellen:[Wow master sounds like an adult. Well Master Maria herself is weird so I can’t expect her son to be normal either. Is weirdness a family trait or something?](In her own thoughts)
Woden:[Oh no she started to think. This is not good, mind voice]”Ellen”
Ellen:[startled again] “Sorry master. If what you said is certainly true then Master Maria should be dead by now because the Slave Master seal is on young master wrist. You can see the sign in your left hand wrist. And from the day you arrived lot of things have change. First is this countries king ‘Grey Reinfield’ is executed after two days from your arrival and the queen is dead in the jail due to miscarriage. Now king’s younger Brother and also High Priest ‘Den Reinfield’ is currently ruling the kingdom”
Woden:[ Sh*t . I didn’t notice the sign and those f*cking a*sh*les. So they make it like I was never even born eh](in his own thought)
Ellen: ”But really, its awful out there you know master. Well I know you can’t understand what I’m about say but the kingdom is doomed I tell you”
Ellen: ”Ah, Now I understand, why Master Maria didn’t even tell me about herself except that she is a SS-Class adventurer and a Grand Mage, so us not put in harms. So master, what are we going to do? I will die in three years and you will be only a three year old child. How are you going to take care of yourself? I’m worried because Master Maria is like a savior to me you know”
Woden:[Ah so she thinks of my mom as her savior even though she is her slave. I can’t understand the concept of this world]
Woden:[mind voice]” We will think of something. Ellen please prepare me food I’m starving due to exhaustion”
Ellen: ”Right. I will prepare some right now”
Woden[mind voice]:”One moment Ellen, what is this sign means?”
Ellen: ”Ah, that’s the sign I’m talking about. It shows that you are my master and I’m your slave because I too have the same mark which is magically connected. Until this sign is lifter or contract ends I can’t attack you directly or indirectly and I will die if master dies, unless if the condition states that after you die i either become free or the contract is passed to someone else”
Woden:[is that so, wait that means she will die if I die, mind voice]”Then what happen if I die right now ellen”
Ellen: ”Well I will die too, I think so. Because mostly when the slave contract transfers to other person it comes with unconditional i.e the slave will die. So if you want to change the condition then we have ask any slave trader to change the condition. But master can’t since he doesn’t have a stats card and you are still child.”
Woden:[mind voice]”Thanks. ”
Ellen:”I will prepare the food then”
Woden:[First thing first. I got to learn how to practice thins magic thingy and also come with some sort of plan so I can be take care till my age is Ten else I may end up like slave]

It’s been a year now and Woden is finally able to walk and talk normally.
Woden:”Whew. I was able to walk normally now and also speak. Now I don’t have to use magic every time if I need to ask something to Ellen now”
Woden:”Where has she gone now? Ya, she went to the village to get this month portion and her medicine. Alright I will practice my magic now that no one is here.”

Woden started to gather up his mana and infused with water to create Water Ball Spell. He knows how to use magic from the conversation with Ellen past these days and since she can’t use magic due to her illness she gave a vague idea from which Woden started his own theory from the spell he used for Telepathy and started to practice it. Due to his theory, he doesn’t need to recite the Spell to use magic rather he has to have a clear imagination of what kind of effect he wants. Through practicing secretly he was now able to do elementary magic effortlessly and what’s more is that he can increase his fire power based on his will. At first there was a lot of exhaustion due to heavy usage of mana to increase fire power but he found another way by using the mana around him and was able increase the output of the spell using his mana very low.
Woden returned home finishing magic practice
After five minutes Ellen enters the house with the rations and medicine
Ellen: “Good afternoon Master. How was your day? You didn’t leave the home right. The village became worse than before and there are lot bad vibe around the village now”
Woden:[I want to see for myself]”I just sat near the door and watching the birds Ellen. So is it awful out there?”
Ellen: ”Yes master. I’m afraid we must evacuate this place soon or else we may get in trouble sooner or later”
Woden: “No Ellen. This is a safe place since there are barriers around the house placed by my mother And I’m a child,
which will cause problem if we get into any troublesome situation”
Ellen: [Thinks for a minute and her face turns blue and nods strongly]
Woden: [(deep in thought) Even if she thinks of me as weird I don’t mind. Right now safety is more important than anything else. I don’t care how people may think of my actions. Survival of the fittest is the world no matter where tough and I need to improve my training but I’m still stuck because I don’t have information based on magic and this body needs two more years to practice my martial arts skill. Really my situation gets f*cked up day by day]
Ellen:[Really is master a one year old child or what. Every time he speaks it is as if I hear an experience adult speaks his thought. Just what is he? Or any demon possess him? I can’t judge him at all. That’s right I forgot an important thing]”Master, Happy Birthday, you were asleep while I was gone for shopping and I couldn’t wish you”
Ellen kissed on Woden’s forehead which startled Woden and blushes
Woden: ”Thank you Ellen”
Ellen: ”And Master Maria gave a pouch to present to you on your first birthday. Here Please”
Ellen gives the pouch and Woden opens it. He finds a key in it.
Woden: “Ellen did my mother mentioned anything about this”
Ellen: “Ah, yes master there is underground room and this is the key for it. But it can be only used by you Master. She told
me to give this to you as your birthday present”
Woden: “Well then shall we find what is in there?”
Ellen: ”Yes Master”
[There is an underground room which was not used or rather I thought it’s just a store room but this is. Let’s see what it holds]
Woden opens the door and startled by what is in front of him. Ellen too is startled by the seeing the room.
Woden: “Do you anything about this Ellen?”
Ellen:”Ah, no master, this is the first time I’m coming to this room and Master Maria said it can be only opened by you. So I didn’t bother to check on it”
The room which startled them is a collection of objects like various books; cloths for Woden varied on his age even the girl version, gold, silver and copper coins, weapons like swords, staffs, magic staffs, bow, and even various crafting material, magic items etc. And there was a table and a piece of paper on it.
Woden takes the paper and an image props out
Maria:“Dear child I’m Maria your mother, if you are reading this means you are alone with Ellen then. Well at first Happy Birthday!. Now I will tell you about this place at first. It is a safe house designed by myself. Even your father doesn’t know about this. The items here are even purchased by my money earned from my adventuring and research materials. I have done this because of safety precautions. Things must have gone wary out there then. Well you don’t need worry about it. Walk your own path. There are various manuals from how to read to higher level magic concepts. Child I will ask only two things, judge the world by yourself and take action and be strong and kind. Live well my dear. Good bye”
Image vanishes and letter gets disappears. Tears flow from woden and ellen comforts him. After an hour or two Woden starts to browse the items in the room and Ellen started to prepare the lunch.

There was a heavy rain pouring outside the forest. Woden goes from kitchen to refill the water in a bowl.
Ellen is coughing a lot and is put in the bed. Woden hurriedly comes and cleans the sweating areas in ellen’s face
Ellen: “cough. cough. Ah master three years fly’s very right”
Woden:”Yes Ellen. It’s alright don’t speak too much. I have read every book in the room but I’m unable to find a cure for
ellen. Sorry”
Ellen: ”I’m not worried about that master. I’m worried about you. Even though you have a mind comparable to adult you are still a child master, how are you able to live from now on? I’m worried about that master. The situation is ‘cough, cough , gasp, gasp’ in other country side as well on the village(interrupted)”
Woden:”Stop Ellen. Don’t worry about me. I will train hard and be able to live on my own without any problems. Ok. So close your eyes and take some rest. Please”
Ellen:”Yes master”
[Yes it’s been three and half years since I was born in this world. I started to work my a*s of by reading the books in the room so I can improve my understanding and power of my magic. It seems only one elemental magic like fire, earth, water, lightning, air and void can be used based on the affinity of the person. But I can use every elemental magic to its fullest. And I don’t need to recite any spells since and also using the mana in the nature i was able to create even new spells which not by most of the magicians do, because it may cause mana poisoning due to the nature of the mana being pure on the surrounding. But this didn’t affect me and I also found that elven magic also has similarities to my own theory except that they can only use half of the nature mana. These books my mom presented holds lot of information but the magic academy holds even more than this. But even with these I was still unable to find cure for ellen and now she is in deathbed]
Ellen: ”(mumbling) Don’t look worried master. One day you too will become a great person than Master Maria and I’m sure of it take care master (closes her eyes)”
On that night Ellen died and Woden disposed the body by burning her so that she may not become some kind of undead at morning. Woden then takes bath while staring at the sky.
