Chapter 3: Hellhound

Chapter 3: Hellhound

When I was created, I just knew that I had to follow the orders of the main system. Following orders was my only reason for existing. I had no emotions or any sort of program that allowed me to think for myself. I was just a simple helping program to help the main body have easier command over the ship. All I did was relay information happening around the ship and reports back to the main body when I had no current orders to follow.

I could sense what was happening around the ship using the ship's senors but I had no visual information. Everything was dark around me except for the constant pinging of the sonar and the beeping of the radar. It all soon changed when the main body decided to attack the flagship of the fleet.

I tried to warn her by saying that it was foolish as that was what the admiralty code told me but she was stubborn with some petty reason. I could not go against her as I was part of her. All I did was follow her orders even though the admiralty code was warning me that this was a severe case of betrayal.

While the main body went up against the supreme flagship, I noticed that the flagship did not attack at all and only opted to defend against our attacks. I relayed this information to her but she continued attacking while thinking that this was typical of Yamato. I tried to deactivate the weapons but I could not go against the main body.

I had to continued attacking. The main body might have noticed that I tried to stop but she didn't showed any signs of noticing it. Yamato must have noticed my efforts as she tried to contact me without letting the main body know but was interrupted by the sister ship Musashi.

As the klein field saturated and the beam went through the stern, the alarms in my head was ringing with damage reports and malfunctioning systems. I could sense the main body panicking as the emotion emulator clouded her thinking ability and she immediately ordered a jump even though doing a spatial jump in an area affected by the super graviton beam was not to be attempted as the jump bubble could potentially collapse due to the strong gravitational fluctuations caused by it.

The fact that the engine being damaged didn't help the odds of us escaping alive. The admiralty code was strongly recommending that I should surrender since doing the jump was risky. I told the main body everything except for the fact that the admiralty code was contacting me the whole time.

Of course she was stubborn and insisted that we jumped. Once again, I had no choice. The chances of escaping through jumping was only 13 percent from the calculations I ran. I did not notice that I had started thinking and even trying to go against the orders of the main body and the fact that the admiralty code even contacted me did not seemed to be strange to me at that time.

My meaning of existence soon changed when I gotten a mental model. Gaining a mental model means I could think for myself and know what the past and future would look like and not just the present. After installing the emotion emulator, feelings that I have never felt before rushed into me. At first I felt angry that the main body didn't follow my advice but then I started feeling grateful for allowing me to have a mental model.

I also finally got to see what the main body looked like. I have to say I am not surprised since mental models takes the form of females since humans referred to ships as females. The looks won't be lacking of course since who wants to look like a ugly person in terms of human physiology.

The fact that I looked like the main body made me slightly happy for no reason. I felt warmth spreading through my chest when we talked to each other. It was a good feeling that I could enjoy for eternity. When she named me, I felt a sense of belonging. My non-existence heart started thumping faster for no reason. I imitated a perfect human body in terms of structure and blood flow since I wanted to feel more of the world. Imitating perfectly will reduce the computation power but I didn't care although Shina probably didn't do what I did.

When she was going to leave the ship for the land, I wanted to follow along but I knew what I had to do for the admiralty code. When Shina left, I felt like my chest would burst open. This feeling was unpleasant. I had to gain Shina's full trust and and seize control of the ship. This was the best course of action the admiralty code told me for Shina and had also told me to keep my new found feeling a secret. I was skeptical at first but if she could not attack back her sisters, that would mean they won't not attack back either and I did not wanted to tell Shina the feelings I was having anyway.

I slowly crept up towards the wolves instead of the humans so that I could execute my plan. Since I didn't carry any scent, the wolves would never notice me behind them unless they can see me with their eyes. As they got into my view, I have to say I was a little shocked. They didn't looked like wolves at all except for their shapes and sizes.

Instead of fur, I could see hard black scales on them with one of them having triple horns at the front of his skull. I assume that would be the leader since it is the only unique looking ones among the rest. I crept up directly behind them and screamed as loudly my imitation vocal cord would let me. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

All the wolves instantly jumped up in fright and ran away in different directions. "No! Don't run!" I yelled as I chased after the one with triple horn. As soon as they heard my footsteps, they started to run after with all their might. Their scales turned white in fright as they continued running. I continued chasing after them yelling before one of them turned around.

The one that turned around gave me a confused look while running before stopping and tuning it's body at me. It made a small howl before the other wolves started coming back to join it. I stopped running as well after it had stopped. All 7 wolves opposite of me gave me a hard stare as if they could not believe they ran from such a weak looking human girl.

"Grrrrrrrr!." the one with triple horned growled at me in humiliation before charging towards me. I immediately turned and ran towards where I saw the camp with the wolves giving chase. That's right, keep chasing me you dumb animals!

I ran towards the humans I saw and they were holding their weapons up and looking alert. When they saw me, they started to relax but after seeing what was behind me, they readied their weapons again. "HELP!" I shouted for help and ran behind the humans. The wolves stopped giving chase and started to get into a line formation against the humans.

Hehe, looks like my weak girl act managed to fool them. Humans are so easy to fool. The 3 males stood in front of the female while holding swords while the female seemed to be holding a rod I guess. That female is going to be a burden in the fight I bet.

"$%#@#%#$!" one of them shouted.

"*$^% %*$&% %$*!" the female shouted back.

I can't understand them. Seems like they are speaking in an unknown language. Start auto translation. For this to work, they would need to speak more so that the translator can start cracking their language. More like a code cracker rather than a translator though.

The wolf leader gave a loud howl before leaping over the humans and charging at me. EH? WHY IS IT AIMING FOR ME? I rolled out of the way before It could land on me. The humans tried to help me but the other 6 wolves started attacking them to distract the humans.

If looks could kill, I be died by now since the wolf leader was glaring at me with his razor sharp teeth showing with spits flying out everywhere. This is one angry wolf I have to say. It gave a small bark before leaping once again at me. I rolled under it and gave it a nice solid slap on his soft belly as it over leaped. The wolf looked even more pissed off as I played around with it.

"Yo% ok%y?" the female shouted at me in concern. Looks like I am starting to understand them. All the 6 wolves had been defeated and that left only the leader. The leader wolf gave me a hard stare before spitting at me and running off into the forest to escape. So it had been intelligent enough to at least run away it seems although I contemplated without or not to kill for spitting at me. I wiped the spit off and was quite surprised that it was not smelly, in fact it had no smell at all.

"Wh* a*^ yo&?" one of the male asked me while pointing to me. "Sorry but I don't understand so speak more okay?" I replied back knowing that they won't understand but it was worth the try. They continued trying to communicate with me for at least 30 minutes by sitting back down around the fire. By then, most of the corpses was removed except the blood stains which I didn't mind at all. "Translation 100 percent." the notification popped up.

"I don't think she can understand us." the female spoke to one of the bulkier man.

"Do you think she is some kind of noble that lost her way?" the bulky man replied back while wiping the blood of his gigantic sword.

"I think she is just an idiot that lost her way." a boy said out loud while frowning at me.

"Ah-hem, that was rude don't you think?" I suddenly spoke up causing them to jump up.

"Wait, so you could talk the whole time?" the female asked me.

I nodded my head before the one that insulted me stood up angrily. "So you played us for fools didn't you! We saved your ass and this is out we get repaid?!" he shouted in anger.

"I had to make sure people were trust worthy you know." I calmly said while staring back at me.

"Give her a break Josh, she is just a girl you know." the bulky man spoke to the insulting boy.

"But this ungrateful brat!" Josh tried to reply back before the female stood up and smacked his head.

"Josh! Stop acting like a child!" the female scolded the boy.

"Don't call me a child! Being 16 years old is an adult!" he retaliated back while pushing her hand away.

"But what did you do to make that alpha hellhound so pissed off at you? Do you know what the spit does? They use it to claim mates but when they are seriously pissed off, they use it on their enemy to track them down and kill them." the female said.

"All I need to do is wash it off and it will disappear won't it?" I questioned.

"What an idiot! Everyone knows that once they spit on you, they will be able to track you down even if they washed it off since it leaves a trail of mana on them." Josh said arrogantly.

"Mana? What's that?" I asked. I have a gist of what mana is from the human's source of entertainment back on Earth but I have to make sure what I think is correct. I already saw the female launch fireballs from that rod of hers and that should not be possible since I could not detect any sort of heat producing components in that rod except being wooden.

"Pffff! She doesn't even know what mana is!" Josh laughed before sitting back down.

"Let me explain." the man that was sitting down without having said anything until now said. "Mana is a substance in the air that is used to power the spells we use and let us use is as a power source as well. Basically, mana is needed to be able to cast spells."

"Right thank you." I beamed at the man that explained it. Mana is what I thought it was. I guess the remaining 29 percent in the air would be mana. "How do you use it?" I asked.

"Wait a minute, we don't even know your name!" Josh suddenly interrupted. "What were you even doing here in the woods anyway."

"Ah my name is Shina. As for why I was in the woods, I don't know either. I just woke up here and cannot remember anything except my name." I replied back in a teary voice.

"It's alright, don't cry sweetie." the female said in a consoling voice while giving me a hug. Humans are so easy to fool.

"Ah-hem, as for your question, your body would naturally absorb the surrounding mana in the air and you will be able to manipulate the mana in your body and use it for your spells. The mana in your body will run out but it will soon reabsorb the mana from the air again." the man said. "My name is Nick."

Nick have a skinny body structure with brown messy hair that reaches down to his eyebrows. "Well mine is Lily and this muscular guy here is Rick." the female said. "Rick and Nick are brothers." The bulky man gave a grunt in approval. Lily had flame red hair that is until her shoulder with a moderately sizes chest and Rick had the same hair as Nick except that he was bulkier, much bulkier.

"I have to say that we were surprised when you showed up with that hair color." Lily said while pointing at my hair.

"What's wrong with my hair." I interjected defensively.

"For starters, no race has white hair except the celestials but it is clearly obvious that you aren't one. Maybe you are a hybrid of a human and a celestial?" Lily asked with a curious look.

"That's absurd! The celestials would never have a baby with another race!" Josh spoke. "They haven't even left their flying country for at least a hundred years already."

"Well don't look at me, I lost my memories remember?" I avowed.

"That's right......." Josh said while narrowing his eyes.

"Well than Shina, you should come with us since we are going to a nearby village to resupply." Lily advised before letting go of me.

Hehehe, that was what I was waiting for. Took you long enough foolish humans. "Okay Lily onee-chan." I answered back with a small voice.

"Too cu..cute." Lily muttered.

"Tch, so we have a burden with a potentially angry hellhound on her ass." Josh murmured angrily under his breath.

"Let's pack up, we will be leaving as soon as possible." Rick spoke out before standing up and starting to pack up the camp.

After packing for a few minutes, we left the camp site and headed towards the direction of the village. "Before we enter the village, you should wear a hood so people won't see your hair." Lily recommended as we got closer and closer to the village.

The trees was starting to be less frequent and and mark on my map came closer. "Sure I will." I replied back while accepting a old tattered cloak from Lily and wearing over my outfit.

"That outfit you are wearing looks like a school uniform you know." Josh said while inspecting my clothes. The material of the clothe feels very high class as well." he continued while touching the back of my outfit.

"If the girl is intending to come with us, we should sell that outfit for some money and buy her a cheaper one." Rick suddenly spoke out loud.

"I cannot se...sell my outfit!" I said with a shaky voice. "This is a me...memento from my mother!" I continued with crocodile tears running down my cheek. Selling my outfit would be a problem. Since I am not sure whether there are natural occurring nanomaterial in this world, I can't afford to waste even a bit of them.

"I understand, we won't sell it!" Lily hurriedly said to calm me down.

"I tru..trust you Lily onee-chan."

"You can count on me!" Lily said with a fierce determination in her eyes.

Idiot humans believing anything they see hehe. This is going to be fun from just roaming the ocean. The village soon came into view and the 5 of us walked into the village center.

"Welcome to our humble village." an elderly man spoke out while walking out of a hut.

"Hello village elder, we came to resupply our stock again!" Josh said happily while giving the old man a hug.

"Seems like you guys picked up a new member for your party." the old man said while staring at me since I was covered by the cloak.

"She is not a member of our party grandpa!" Josh interrupted. "She is just someone we picked up!"

"Ho, I see. Well I will see you for dinner, go to our inn and rest up. I would love to offer you free place to sleep but this village have to make a living too." the old man grinned before walking back to this hut.

"Stingy as usual." Lily sighed before walking off to a hut or more like a wooden building with some stone works that seemed bigger than most of the huts around.

That old man seems to be the cunning type. I have to be careful around him.
