Chapter 1: Second mental model

Chapter 1: Second mental model

"That Musashi just had appear out of nowhere didn't she?" I grumbled to myself before more warnings rang through my head or rather my union core. "Engine output falling. Unable to maintain jump bubble." the disembodied voice warned.

Before I could react to the warning, an explosion rocked the ship. "Explosion near the engine room. Graviton engine output reduced to 30 percent and dropping. Jump bubble rupturing." the warning rang once more. "Integrity of the hull weakening."

"Deactivate jump, reduce engine output to 5 percent. Section off the area with fire." I immediately ordered as the groans of the sound of metal slowly twisting could be heard. "All this problems because of a pest that had to interrupt." I sighed to myself as I stood on the second turret which is the closest to the superstructure of the ship.

Beams of light flashed across the darkness around the ship as it was traveling in between dimensions. Aurora like lights flashed past as the ship moved forward, cutting through space-time to get to it's location. Slowly the ship slowed down and the lights flashing past started disappearing and a giant circular portal appeared in front of it.

"Exiting jump bubble." the voice told me as the ship went through the portal.

"Eh? We exited in the sky!" I shrieked as the ship started falling down, gaining speed towards the open sea. "Impact in 20 seconds." the voice warned me as I was being lifted off the ship since it started falling earlier than me when it exited the portal.

"Maximum output for graviton engine!" I yelled as the sea got closer and closer every second. "Maximum output 25 percent." the voice once again informed me as the propulsion behind the ship increased. This only served to increase the rate of descend.

"Activate thrusters at the bow! Balance the ship so that it is falling parallel to the water!" Immediately the thrusters at the back weakened and 6 thrusters facing downwards at the bow started and began balancing the ship to the way I wanted. "10 seconds to impact." the warning rang.

"Blow graviton floats! Slow the speed of descent by activating the downward thrusters at the stern as well!" I ordered as my thigh long white hair with a tint of light pink at the end of it whipped my face as I fell towards the ship. Graviton floats are used to help the ship submerge into the water if needed but by blowing them, it makes the ship come back up to the surface. Basically it is like a very strong balloon that floats into the air when blown.

As the ship's descent started slowing, I did a flip before landing back on the turret. "Brace for impact." the warning rang before the ship slammed into the water, displacing a ton of salty seawater into the air. "Damage report." I immediately ordered as the ship began to float evenly on the water.

"Hull breached, taking in water. Graviton engine damaged heavily. Maximum output 20 percent. Jump drive destroyed and cannot be used until repaired. 4 gravity focusing units destroyed. Klein field saturated. Stored energy must be released before becoming usable again."

"That's quite a bit of damage I sustained." I whistled to myself. "I cannot release the energy stored since it will basically alert everyone where I am since a super battleship can store a huge amount of energy before the field collapses."

"Find out our current location and bearings. Convert useless part of the ship to nanomaterial and use it to fix the engine and repair the hull." I ordered my other self before sitting down. "Do you want to have a mental model as well?" I asked my other self since the union core of a super battleship can easily sustain 2 mental models as it has a large amount of processing power.

"If there is leftover nanomaterial after repairing." she answered back. "Location unknown. No spaceborne vessels in the current vicinity." she continued to say.

"None? That's strange. There is always one everywhere." I thought to myself. "It is already strange that there is no patrolling fog ship coming to investigate the spatial distortion whenever a jump bubble opens. Even if the distortion is weak, nearby ships should be able to detect it."

"Air composition is different from where we came from." a voice interrupted my thought. "Oxygen 30 percent, nitrogen 40 percent, carbon dioxide and water vapor with other gases 1 percent." "What? Then what about the remaining 29 percent?" I asked while thinking of thousands of theories which started clogging up my processing speed. "Remaining 29 percent is unknown." she answered back.

"Repair complete, building a mental model from the leftover nanomaterial." the information came directly to my head while I was pondering over what the remaining 29 percent could be.

White sand like substance started flowing and settling down beside me while the nanomaterial started arranging themselves to form a humanoid form. Soon, a little girl about the age of 14 could be seen standing beside a similar figure. They both looked hauntingly similar except for their hair. One of them had dark purple hair that reached towards the waist with matching eye colour while the other one had clear light blue eyes. Both of them was wearing a serafuka and had slightly disheveled hair. One cannot change the shape of their mental model since it is like the union core's personality.

"Installing emotion emulator." the one with black hair said. "So, how do you like your new body?" I asked her as she started examining herself and looking around before her eyes settled on me. "It's fine if I look like you." she answered back while squinting her eyes as the sun glare blinded her.

"Now I understand why you have taken a liking to using mental models. The breeze of the wind, the warmth from the sun on my skin and the salty smell from the sea can be quite addictive compared to having no sense of feeling." she declared while staring at my face.

"So what should I call you now? You can't use my name of course since it would be confusing." I asked her as calling her my other self would be tiring to say all the time. "W..Why can't we share the name?" she protested. "I am you aft..afterall." she declared.

"What a needy fellow you are. How about this? Let's split up the name so both our name originated from the name Shinano." I piped. "Mine will be Shina and you will be no. How about it? I am clever right? Praise me!" I said proudly while lifting my head high.

"No way! That's unfair! Your name has 2 syllabus and mine only has one! Make it even!" she complained while stamping around with her feet. "Fine. How about this this? Mine will still be Shina and yours will be Nano instead of no." I quavered.

"Well that's better I guess." Nano sassed before walking off to explore the deck of the ship. "Wait up! Let me guide you around. I always wanted to do that but never had the chance." I yelled as I chased after her.

"Well engine maximum output increased back to 100 percent. Klein field is still saturated." Nano said while suddenly stopping at the bow of the ship. "We should release the stored energy so that the klein field is usable. We are quite vulnerable to even human weapons without it." she continued while staring into the sea.

"Is it worth the risk though? The release from a super battleship klein field can be sensed from 200 million kilometers away in radius." I asked since I prefer being stealthy.

"I rather go in guns blazing and breaking through any blockade rather than being sneaky and defenseless. Nano replied back while still looking at the sea with a dreamy look. "But the risk is too-" I tried to protest before being interrupted. "Just do it! Don't let your dreams be dreams and just do it!" Nano boomed all of a sudden before turning around to face me with a glare.

"Fine! don't blame me with we get sunk!" I snorted before sulking away back to the bridge. "Alright then! Preparing klein field generator to release energy." Nano happily chirped before a low hum filled the air which intensified over time. The machine under my feet started to vibrate before a shock wave ripped out from the middle of the hull. The shock wave blasted the water away as it went out. 3 more shock waves came out before the humming stopped.

"Energy released! Charging klein field generator. Estimated 30 minutes!" Nano's report rang through my head since I was too far to hear her verbally.

"Happy now?" I asked through the mental connection we had. "Very!" a elated voice replied back.

"Increase sonar sensitivity and radar distance. Unlock weapon locks on all weapons." I immediately ordered since you never know what might happen after releasing shock waves like that.

"By the way Shina, aren't you afraid I might take control over you?" Nano asked through the mental network.

"Why would I be afraid? I have the union core with me so even if you tried, there is no way you can take control of the ship without it."

"I see......" Nano murmured before going silent.

The ship was moving about 10 knots at the moment, the engine doing it's best to push it's massive bulk forward as it cut through the waves. It was about mid day as the sun was directly overhead.

"Radar contact 40 kilometers away. It's too big to be a human jet fighter." Nano's warned through the network as I was gazing mindlessly over the control panels that I had absolutely no use for. "Contact in 6 minutes." she continued.

"Bigger than a jet and yet faster than any other animals from the database." I thought to myself while pondering what it was. "Open all 40 vertical launching system cells and load them with conventional missiles." I ordered while rushing out of the bridge to the deck. "Prepare to fire photon cannon as well as increase engine power to 100 percent." I continued.

"Ship speed is now 50 knots." Nano replied back. The lines on the hull of the ship became brighter as the weapons started activating. All nine muzzles split open in four piece each, the dome themselves too shifted to accommodate the full output for the photon cannons. The kernels that was previously hidden inside the muzzles flared with energy as lightning like spike of energy started crackling around the glowing rods.

"Usually when the photon cannons are used, the power output would be about 80 percent but since our klein field is down, I have removed the limiter on it." I informed Nano since the muzzles usually didn't split open for super battleship's photon cannons. "No point using corrosive torpedo against an aerial target since aerial units cannot deploy klein field except ours of course." I continued.

I reached where Nano was standing and joined her in looking at the fast approaching target. The target was red in color in doubt but what it looked like shocked me. It appeared to be a overgrown lizard with wings flapping. "Either the information from the joint tactical network is outdated and this organism has never been seen before or it's a biological weapon deployed by the humans." I said to Nano.

"Before it gets too close to use the photon cannon, prepare to fire it." I ordered as the 3 turrets turned to face the approaching adversary. I activated the targeting system and thousands of numbers appeared around me shifting and changing. Nano activated the physical dampers since a full power photon cannon shot can capsize the ship since the recoil from it is too powerful on full power.

"What if it is just flying pass?" Nano asked as it got closer. "Doesn't matter. It is big enough to cause harm to the ship without the klein field. I am not going to take any risk without the klein field." I replied back. "Target acquired, prepared to fire." the system alerted me. "Fire!" I ordered and 9 beams shot towards the target and all found their mark.

The target gave off a loud ear screeching wail as the spot where the beams hit exploded. A giant black explosion filled the sky before something fell out from it and into the sea.

"Well that was easy." I piped to break the silence. The dome and the muzzles returned back to their original shape while slight steam could be seen coming out from it.

"That was probably an animal that was just passing by and you had to shoot it down since you were paranoid about it!" Nano exasperated.

"Maybe but who knows it could have been-"

"Don't try to justify yourself!" Nano interrupted me while glaring at me.

"You're so cute when you are angry." I mused

"Hmph, flattery will get you nowhere." Nano said while turning her face away with a slight blush on it.

"Trivial matters aside, that was not something that was recorded before by humans nor have we the fog seen it before as well." I said while opening a folder inside my head and looking through some files on animals.

"Nothing at all that resembles what we saw." I groaned as nothing came up from the files. "The fact that it was about 50 meters long didn't help in the search."

"Well there is a theory that we might not be on Earth anymore." Nano said while information could be seen around her.

"One way to find out then. Remove the stern turret and replace it with a flight deck." I ordered. The 18 inch triple gun turret dissolved into what sand like substance otherwise known as nanomaterial and transformed the entire deck behind the superstructure into a flight deck. There is 6 platforms, 3 on each side with a plane on each.

"Behold! I have upgraded from the useless biplane to one of the more advanced human jet fighters. I used the model of the harrier jump jet since it can take off vertically from the ground which means I don't need to transform the entire deck to a flight deck now!" I boasted. "I will use them to scout the entire planet since their engine is different from the one humans use after all and can last for a long time."

"But according to the information I have here on the jets you are using, klein field cannot be used on them if they are faraway from you and if they cannot be used, the sound produced cannot be suppressed." Nano asked while holding a datapad of some sort.

"They won't get shot down easily. They can fly just below the ozone layer with hypersonic speed although they won't be able to carry any sort of armaments although without the klein field, the sound produced can be heard even from the ozone layer all the way to the ground but they will be long gone before it can be seen." I continued to boast.

"The chances that we are in another planet is about 70 percent since a scenario similar to our situation had happened before." Nano said before throwing away the datapad which vanished and walked towards the jets.

"How did you even manage to put the klein field on planes anyway. I heard it is impossible to do so." Nano questioned me while we walked towards the flight deck.

"This is from all the research I did to not make the the planes useless against human anti aircraft weaponry. I created a device which transfers any damage taken towards me which is the ship of course. It basically connects the area outside of the jets to the ship's klein field instead." I answered.

"Oh so that's why going far from you disables the function." Nano said with a surprised look.

"The effective radius is about 100 kilometers and you calmed down surprisingly fast." I mused as Nano's face turned red.

"Tha...that's because according to the system, that was the correct decision!" Nano stuttered before walking faster.

"You know we are programmed to speak perfectly right? That means you shouldn't stutter at all in fact." I bickered.

"Shu..shut up! Mind your own business!" Nano spluttered before running towards the flight deck.

"Don't run off like that! Wait up!" I shouted after her as I gave chase.

Nano came to a stop and stared at the jets. "Hey Shina, how many of those jets do you have anyway?" Nano asked while looking over the jets with a sparkle in her eyes.

"Well I used to have 50 of them in my hanger but some was destroyed by Musashi so I have basically 30 of them now." I answered her. "My jets looks beautiful right?

"They sure do....." Nano replied while continuing to look at them.

"Time for them to take off. Klein field has recharged and is ready to be used. Connecting klein field to jets." I said as many tiny hexagonal shapes went over the jets like waves before disappearing. Klein field generator connected to the 6 jets. Ready for take off."

The jets started their engine and started lifting off with light pinkish propulsion coming out from the thrusters. They went to a altitude about 500 meters before each of them going separate ways while climbing up the sky. No sound could be heard coming from the engines thanks to the klein field.

"I will dampen the sound until they reach out of range of my klein field connectors. That should help in concealing our current position. Power output for klein field is now bare minimum needed to run it." I said as the jets disappeared from our eyes.

"So what are we suppose to do now?" Nano asked.

"That's simple. Full speed ahead in a single direction and hope we come across land." I answered back as the ship shuddered in anticipation. "Removing limiter for thrusters. Speed increasing to 80 knots." I said as wave started crashing over the bow and onto the deck.

"Why is there a limiter for almost everything?" Nano asked.

"That's because a super battleship on full power for everything will signal the rest of the Earth where we are but since we are probably on another planet, I should just remove limiter for everything and I always wanted to try go full speed anyway." I replied as the ship gave off a loud wail as the engine struggled to cut through the waves and push through.

"I see...." Nano muttered.
