Year 380 P.B. (Post Barrier)
The Research Corporation of Supernatural Phenomena (R.C.S.P.) is a corporation initially founded by Yuri's mother, Casey Keller. Even though the Kellers got rich from illegal means and built the corporation with that filthy money, Casey's goal was a really wholesome one.
Her parents had a disease called Gradually Intensifying Anaesthesia. (G.I.A.) The disease is characterised by gradual loss of the 5 human senses. When all senses are lost the person's heart stops beating. A cure hasn't been found yet, but Casey is determined to save her family and herself from that genetically inherited disease.
She is trying to understand a substance known as the Dark Essence, which is speculated to have unimaginable properties that could possibly heal lethal diseases.
If she didn't succeed in time, however, which was very likely, she wanted to prevent anyone else from experiencing a similar lethal disease that cannot be cured. I think she could rightly be described as a humanitarian.
The corporation's actions were heavily funded by an english millionaire who wanted half of the credit of the research's results. It was all done undercover as the government would suppress their actions and hinder their research. A researcher needs to have a permit to continue their work. The research of that unknown essence would never allow Casey to get a permit, therefore, she decided to work secretively.
She hired selected individuals with great skills and discipline that she trusted. She couldn't risk a random betrayal. Furthermore, with such a large sum of money she got from the millionaire, she hired the two best mercenaries in the world, Aria and Aldrich, who would do exactly as she said to keep the research a secret with any means possible. It also allowed the corporation to have a solid defence system and control over other corporations.
Even though no revolutionary discoveries were made, the progress was steady and had visible results. The theory that the Dark Essence could be used as medicine was starting to become all the more valid. Casey was very happy with how things were going.
Casey wasn't just some freak working solely to make her dream reality. She had a family herself. She was married to a very handsome man, two years older than her with short fair hair and dark blue eyes.
His name was James Finnegan. He came from a poor family. Farmers all of them, but very skilled in any kind of labour. He was really smart, too, so he took on two or three jobs at once, some of them requiring not only labour, but ingenuity as well. He was the only one to legally make ends meet on his own and not run out of money within a month. (Ahem*, Geord)
He had a sibling named Geord, with the same dark blue eyes as his brother but with dark curly hair. He was by far the more masculine of the two brothers, with a 90 kilogram body full of muscles. Rumours say that even a stab couldn't penetrate his notorious six-pack.
Let's put aside his attractive features— err, I mean his external appearance and focus on his personality. He was a really caring older brother. When he needed to steal something it was always of good intent. Either to help his family when facing hard times or to feed himself so that he didn't depend on others. He always wanted to have a child (preferably a daughter I think) but despite his outstanding looks and awesome body he couldn't bear children due to a disease he had affecting his testicles that wasn't diagnosed in his teenage years.
Casey fell in love with James the moment she saw a her. She was pregnant a year after she married him. The child that was born was named Yuri with the surname Keller, as that was sort of an indicator that she derived from a rich family and not a poor one constituting of only farmers. Yuri was amazed by her mother's work about wanting to save people's lives and she wanted to become like her in the future.
She would pretend to be working like her when she had free time, as she used to drop by her office in the R.C.S.P. and pay close attention to her work. Casey supported her dreams and gave her a few easy jobs to do such as stacking up envelops or reading out loud some parts from a report sheet. Yuri loved every single bit of her time spent with her mother that way.
Even though she loved her mother a lot, she still did love James a lot too, as she was sharing her experiences from school with him, while her mother was working.
The corporation was progressing smoothly and everything was seemingly under control.
Casey made sure other english companies and organisations knew nothing about the Dark Essence and she used Aria and Aldrich a lot to assure her success.
However, what she never thought about was the interference of a Japanese organization to her research. A Japanese organisation called the "Faith Organization" knew everything that was going on. The Faith Organisation is a huge undercover organisation that has major influence in all of Japan. They act on behalf of the Church and try to preserve the religious based society Japan operates on. In this way they can indirectly manipulate the masses, resulting in political and economical power.

Besides, It is not a coincidence that the Japanese people use the word God frequently and maintain high religious standards. The Faith Organization has greatly affected their way of thinking.
The Faith Organization knew about the existence of the Dark Essence way before the R.C.S.P. They have worked hard to keep this secret material from rising to the surface, as it would definitely mess with the religion they came up with to manipulate the thought process of Japan's citizens.
The R.C.S.P. was close to a revolutionary change that could devastate the religious system, therefore the church ordered the Faith Organization (that works on behalf of them) to disrupt their research and silence anyone that knows about it.
In 380 Post Barrier (P.B.), a secret assault was conducted by the Faith Organization.
Casey was working when that occurred and Yuri had gone there as usual to "play" with her. Casey heard footsteps and immediately after a loud gunshot. In response, an alarm went off. The uneasy sound it produced scared Yuri. A chill ran down her spine.
Terrified as she was she anxiously said "What was that, mom?". Casey answered with "Somebody's coming". She then told Yuri to hide in a small closet with eyes closed shut and without saying a thing. Yuri got in the closet and closed her eyes.
A woman with white hair and dark pink eyes entered the room, holding a gun. That moment Casey mixed Mercury(l), Ethanol(l) and a few grains of Dark Essence(s) together and threw the mixture at her. When the glass bottle fell on the floor, a violent explosive reaction created a thick cloud of gas that bought her some time to escape.
Despite her greatest efforts, she wasn't fast enough. The trigger had already been pulled. Her right leg was covered in blood and she dropped down on the floor. Yuri realised that something was going on, opened the door slightly and caught a quick glimpse of the figure holding the gun. She was really scared and thus put her head back quickly as her mother had told her to.
When the created fog dispersed, the white haired woman, who was standing still, reloaded her gun and shot Casey again, ending her life.
Even though her objective was to capture her, she left no room for errors as she didn't want to fail a mission once more. Almost everyone working for that research/experimental corporation was either killed or captured. Afterwards, she left the room to inform her superiors about her actions.
Yuri was shocked by everything and really confused. When silence filled the room, she opened the door completely and shouted "mom?" When she said that, she saw her mother's dead body on the floor. She panicked and started heavily crying. Her entire body was shaking. Her outcries could be heard even from two rooms away.
A minute later, footsteps could be heard everywhere. Yuri heard unfamiliar voices coming from the next room and quickly returned to her hiding spot that her mother had prepared. With her eyes now opened she saw a letter with her mother's handwriting. It said the following:
"If you see this my beloved Yuri, then I'm probably in danger, and so are you. Do you see this vent behind the closet? You need to use this to get out. Follow the vent and it'll lead you outside. You need to do that, Yuri. You're really brave, please do this for mommy. You must survive. My research is inside this flash. I know you want to continue my work, so I want you to take it. I'll always be thinking about you Yuri. I love you more than anything in the world..." - Mom.
(Casey knew that her job was risky and her daughter could possibly be in danger. That's why she wrote the letter and created the emergency exit route beforehand).
Yuri burst into tears and while holding the letter tightly in her hand, she followed her mother's steps. She opened the vent, went in and followed the path to escape.
She found herself in a field full of tall grass. A 10 year old child as she was, she couldn't see where she was going. She held the letter and ran towards the uncertain future that awaited her.
A few moments later though, she stopped dead at her tracks. That's because the tall building that she was previously in, exploded out of nowhere.
A 3 storey-building as it was, the destruction it caused was massive . The blast could be noticed from very far away. Yuri was already in a terrible state of mind and couldn't process what was going on. After hearing that sound she turned her head and stared at the semi-demolished building. Her head was spinning and her ears buzzing. Her sanity was at stake... She couldn't stand any longer. She fainted.
At the same time the Faith Organization was disrupting the R.C.S.P.'s actions, another plan was being conducted, later known as The Pursuit. They went on to track down anyone that was related to the R.C.S.P. and possibly knew about the Dark Essence.
It was nighttime. Yuri was lying down in a field full of tall grass. Despite being semi unconscious, she heard footsteps and continuous cutting sounds as if somebody was slicing through their way to approach her. A tall lean man wearing a round grey hat touched the unconscious Yuri with his hand. That was enough to wake her up.
"You must be cold" he said while putting off his jacket and covering her arms with it.
Yuri was shocked but she instinctively thanked the man even though she didn't know his name.
"Thank you... er..."
"The name's Aldrich" the man added.
"Thank you... Mr. Aldrich... My name is— Yuri." Her excessive trembling made it obvious that she was in a terrible physical and mental state.
The man told her where she needed to go to and helped her get out of the field. While walking silently he thought "It's the least I can do to compensate for being unable to do my duty. I must at least save her daughter..."
When he helped her get somewhere safe, he said "I'm really sorry for your mother, Yuri. I wish I could've saved her." He hugged her when she started crying. After a while when she had stopped temporarily, he said that he needed to leave. Before setting foot on the taxi that was waiting, he told her that her dad was waiting for her.
"Be strong, Yuri." was the last sentence she heard from him.
She wiped her tears, looked at the letter her mom had left for her and moved towards the place Aldrich told her that her dad was waiting.
James Finnegan, Yuri's father, was informed about Casey's death and The Pursuit. He spent only a few moments with her daughter that could be described by pure sadness. They couldn't stay there for much longer, though. Contrary to Aldrich's case, they needed to flee if they wanted to survive.
That was the end of the R.C.S.P. and the end of Yuri's normal an happy life...
