Chapter 29 : Wolf Leader

Inside the forest

A wolf could be seen lying on the ground below a giant tree. It had a distinctive feature that made it different than other wolves. Its Bloodshot eyes and the scar on its face was enough to instill fear to other creature. It was the leader of the pack which chased after Ragna a few hours ago, a mutation of the normal Black Wolf.

The quiet atmosphere of the forest, coupled with the fact that its territory was guarded by several wolves in the different area surrounding it made it feel a bit relaxed. This part of the forest rarely had dangers that posed a threat to it. In this place, the regions are separated by monster's type and power. That was the only way to maintain peace. Of course, that didn't apply to weak creatures which served only as their food.

Suddenly, it sensed someone approaching. It was the human he chased earlier that day!

Ragna was running toward the Wolf Leader. In the air around him were 5 rotating Blood Orbs. He was moving while chanting a spell.

The Wolf Leader howled loudly to warn its kinsmen. In no time, 3 other wolves came from each direction except from the one where Ragna showed up. Those 3 wolves had a slightly bigger build than other wolves. It was clear that they were the Leader's personal guard.

Ragna released the spell which he had finished chanting. His target was the Wolf Leader!

Quagmire!

The ground beneath the Wolf Leader suddenly softened. The originally hard soil became as soft as a clay. Its leg was trapped within the mud-like ground. It tried hard to move, but its movement was heavily restricted!

After reaching level 15, Ragna had unlocked another skill from the Earth Series. It was Quagmire, a utility spell. Even though it deal no damage, it could restrict the opponent's movement. Its power was directly proportioned to the user's Wisdom stat, not the Intelligence.

In fact, all of the Utility spells relied on the player's Wisdom. That was the reason why utility spells were not popular among players. Normally, a quagmire can only slightly affect a monster's speed for a quick moment. It wasn't enough to cast another spell. The better thing to do was to use a DPS spell right away.

But Ragna's wisdom was unusually high! The power behind his Quagmire was far stronger than other players'. The Wolf Leader was unable to free itself from the spell. At least not in a few seconds.

Ragna quickly changed his direction toward the wolf at his left. His hand slowly brightened with blood red radiance. He pointed at the wolf in front of him. Suddenly, one of the orbs moved toward the wolf, cleanly hitting its head!

The wolves flinched for a moment. When it regained its mind, Ragna's fist was already right in front of its eyes.

Soul Strike! Critical Hit!

Even though Critical Rate was closely related to one's dexterity, there were too many things to consider one's true probability of producing a Critical Hit. The spot where one attacked, The timing, and obviously, the mental state of the target.

The wolf flew toward a big tree. It slammed into the tree's trunk, producing a loud crashing sound.

Ragna didn't stop for even a bit. He kept running toward the injured wolf. Two other wolves behind him were closing on him!

He pointed his left hand's finger toward his back. Two of the orbs flew toward them. He didn't even look back. After fighting those wolves for a few hours, he had already adapted to its movement speed and turn rate. It wasn't hard for him to predict their general location.

Both wolves were hit by the Orbs. Even though it didn't hit the perfect spot, the force it produced was enough to make them lose some momentums.

Without waiting for the injured wolf to recover, he pounced toward the wolf. He sat at the wolf's belly, forcefully mounting it. The wolf couldn't do anything. It could only counter with a few scratch which dealt insignificant damage.

Ragna sent a barrage of punch, the wolf's health quickly decreased. Ragna sent his last two remaining orbs toward the wolf's face, ending its struggle.

Suddenly, he felt an intense feeling of danger from his side. He saw a black claw swiping toward him!

It was the Wolf's Leader's skill! It was truly angered by now, its subordinate had been killed right in front of it!

Ragna quickly dodged by bending his body backward. Unfortunately, the attack speed was too fast. He got scratched slightly, resulting in his health decreasing by 10%. Ragna was shaken inwardly, the Wolf Leader's attack was quite terrifying.

He rolled backward, dodging the Wolf Leader's successive attack. But the two wolves had waited for him at that exact spot. He suffered from both of their claw, reducing his health for another 10%. It was all thanks to the Stone Blood that he managed to escape by only losing that much health.

Ragna quickly retreated while doing an incantation gesture at the wolf's corpse which he had killed. The blood gushed out and coalesced into a few orbs which moved toward him. Sadly, he could only make 3 orbs. He couldn't afford to concentrate at that moment.

Ragna chanted another spell. He ran toward the spot between two trees and blocked the entrance with an earth wall. The wolves halted for a moment, they quickly moved separately, one went to the left side and the other went to the right side.

Unfortunately, what was awaiting them was a trap. The two on the left got hit by the blood orbs, while the other was cleanly hit by Ragna's Soul Strike!

The wolf was blasted to a distance away from him. He closed in and performed another chant. It was Quagmire, and he cast it to the two wolves behind him. Both of them were struggling to break free.

Ragna grabbed the injured wolf's leg and threw him up vertically. His right hand glowed with a red light while his left hand pointed at the air. The remaining Blood Orbs sped toward the thrown wolf with incredible speed. Before the wolf even managed to gain momentum to fall, it was already hit by the orbs, sending it flying even higher.

He saw that both of the wolves had finally broke free from his skill. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. The red glow in his right hand shone brighter. It was at that moment that the thrown wolf was starting to fall into the spot right in front of him!

SOUL.. STRIKE !

BOOM !!

The combined momentum from the falling wolf and Ragna's perfectly charged punch was absolutely terrifying! Everyone could even hear the sound of the shattered bone inside the wolf's body. It was sent slamming into the direction of the charging wolves. They slammed into each other. The force was enough to send them back into the area of the Quagmire.

Obviously, Ragna didn't stop at that. He closed in while casting an Earth Spike. Because of the hindered movement, the wolf wasn't capable of dodging at all. It ate Ragna's Earth Spike cleanly, propelling it into Ragna's moving figure. Ragna smacked its face downward, making it crashed into the ground. He then continued to bully it by throwing a barrage of punch. It died after a few punch.

He quickly jumped backward after properly verifying its death. He didn't want to get surprise-attacked like before. Sure enough, a terrifying black claw swiped at the spot where he was before. He retreated a few distance away, closely watching for the Wolf Leader's movement.

The Wolf Leader's eyes were turning redder. It howled again. But after a few moment, nothing happened. It was confused because its clan didn't come to help him. He watched the human in front of it suddenly grinned sheepishly.

It was at this moment it realized that.. everyone had been killed by him!

It was the only one left!

AAUUUUUUNNGGG !

The Wolf Leader howled painfully. The pain it felt was unbearable. Its eyes were completely Bloodshot. Baleful dark aura started swirling in the air around it.

All of a sudden, the dark aura manifested into something real... something tangible. It transformed the wolf into a creature far more terrifying.

The Wolf Leader was mutating!

Indonesia's Fact #19

Bahasa Indonesia is a hard language to study. It also has many informal words frequently used by its people. Our people also have the habit to deliberately write the words in a wrong way. Sometimes for sarcasm or joke.
