Day 18: Today is the day the tournament begins. Supposedly, it can last anywhere from 1-10 days as the number of participants is undetermined. As soon as I logged in, just like every other player, the system asked me
Would you like to join Special Event: Familiar-Owner Tournament.
As soon as I said yes, the slime, whom I have named Goo, and I were teleported into the middle of the city. Before us stood a massive circular building constructed of stone with murals painted along its side. All around its base stood massive doors, or should I say holes, big enough for an elephant to pass through without trouble. It was as if I was sent back in time to ancient Rome, standing in front of the great colosseum of lore. It was an amazing site, or would have been if some kinda ball of disgusting wasn’t clinging to my face.
“Goo, down!”
“Momma” the ball of slime said as it slowly descended from its resting place, which just happened to be my freaking face.
“Today, we are going to fight against others, so I need you to listen and follow my orders, Ok?”
“Momma!” Goo said shaking its head. ‘Is momma the only word it knows?’ I thought pondering if it was just toying with me. ‘Well no-matter, let’s just sign up’ As I walked to one of the huge doors that surrounded the arena, a blue haired lady came up to me carrying a transparent clipboard.
“Hello.” The lady said with a bright smile.
“Um...hello?”
“Are you going to be participating in today’s event?”
“Y-yeah” I said flustered
“Great. Then please just sign in, and you can enter to prepare for the first round.” She extended the shiny metal tablet towards me indicating that I needed to sign it.
“O..okay” I grabbed the pen she handed me and quickly signed on the dotted line indicated by a red arrow.
“Ok. Thank you... Wolf, you may now enter and wait to be called. Your tournament number is 235.”
“Number?” I asked confused.
“Oh… great another idiot” she said with eyes full of disdain.
“What did you call me?!” I bursted out at the sudden rude remark.
“Ah nothing, anyway a number is what you will be called by inside the tournament. Once your number is called, in your case 235, you go up to fight.”
“Oh.”
“How about a thank you.” the rude person in front of me demanded.
“Excuse me?"
“Hmph you heard me.”
“Fine” I said with a mischievous grin appearing on my face.
“Goo, go give her a proper ‘thank you’”
“Momma” as the words left my mouth, my pet slime that was just previously on my shoulder, shot off like a rocket and attached itself to her face. In a city, you can’t physically hurt anyone, but having a Goo stuck on your head is annoying in its own.
“Theres your thank you” I said staring down as the woman rolled on the ground struggling to tear my familiar off of herself. ‘Aw, I misjudged my pet does have some uses’ I thought to myself. It was quite an interesting display for passerbyes, a cloaked man and a little green monster harassing a tournament host, but oh well, what’s done is done. Might as well go in.
As I stepped over the person whom my slime was attached to, I walked into a room reserved for competitors. Inside, were individuals of all shapes and colors. If I looked one way, I could see demi-humans with deep scars across their faces and if I looked the other I could see elves and dwarves fighting it out over some sort of conversation. It was a very...peculiar room. I decided to just ignore the other contestants and sat down on a bench with my number inscribed in golden letters on it. After around ten minutes the first numbers were called and 8 people left the room. As they left, a monitor slowly descended from the ceiling that showed the insides of various rooms that were currently holding matches. All were rather boring except one. Room #29. In it two people were fighting it out, or should I say one person was fighting while the other was solely focused on defending. A black form was constantly whizzing past a werewolf whose body was covered in deep red gashes. ‘So King's doing well.’ I thought to myself. If it wasn’t for the fact that I knew of King’s abilities it would have been impossible for me to discern who it was as they were going to fast for the untrained eye to see. However, since I trained with King for so long I knew most of his abilities. One of which was called GodSpeed. When he activated it he could move up to four times faster than his normal abilities and since he invested almost all of his stats in strength and agility when he used the skill, it was well...fast. In no time, the werewolf collapsed on the floor and turned into a pillar of red light, signifying his/her demise. At the same time, the black shadow that was causing the werewolf so much pain stopped moving and returned back to the gate from which he first emerged. ‘I can’t wait to fight one myself too’ I thought as my legs shook from excitement. After a good 30 minutes of waiting a *ding* sound could be heard in my head, marking that it was my time to fight. I walked out of the waiting room and into a big stadium like the ones I saw on the monitors. Behind me was Goo and across was a gate that was yet to be open. ‘Hmm? Is the other guy not ready yet’ As I was pondering, the gate started to move and a figure emerged.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
“You!” The emerging figure and I both screamed at the same time. In front of me stood my opponent, a leather garbed women with...blue hair. Yep, It was the lady I met at the entrance.
“So, I get to teach you some manners now huh?” she said, as if she had already won.
“Goo.”
“Momma” ‘Did I just see her shiver, hehehe, I can use this’ I thought.
As she regained her composure, she took up a fighting stance and yelled at me: “Prepare to die” *Boom* in a split-second her figure turned into a flash of grey. She whizzed past me and turned to face my back. As her knife descended on my shoulders a vine shot up from the ground and attached itself to the woman's leg. "Fue?" She let out a confused sound as the vine attached itself and held her down. 'I'm guessing she's never seen earth magic before' well not many people chose it considering most believe it to be weak in comparison to other types of magic, so I guess her surprise should be expected. Even though she was extremely fast, her speed is useless, if she’s all tied up. After, I let her struggle for a few more seconds, I raised my leg and struck down on her side causing a big damage number to pop up in my field of vision. After testing my kick and seeing that it was effective, I extended the studs and blades in my gloves and rained down a storm of blows onto my helpless opponent. Faster than my Goo could say “Momma," she turned into a bright red light, only leaving a pool of blood behind.
----------------------------------------
"Well, that was fun" I said while stretching my hands behind my back. After the fight concluded I was instructed to return back to my gate and from their go to a room and wait for my next fight. As I walked into the chamber indicated, I could feel a dozen or so pairs of eyes training on me. Those around me had faces of disgust, admiration, and some even had hints of challenge.
“Goo do you know what’s going on?” I turned towards my shoulder were Goo was currently situated.
“Momma…” Goo shook its head.
“Well whatever, I’ll just have to wait until my next fight starts anyway.” Ignoring the gazes around me, I plopped down onto the nearest bench and began eating some of my pancakes, which I made before coming here.
I didn’t know this until later, but apparently when you punch someone to death with ease and laugh as their blood gets all over you, people tend to give you funny looks. The fact that my pet slime was screaming ‘momma’ the entire time I was slaughtering the tied up girl didn’t help either.
