An Author Turned Cultist
I would rather work a 9-5

I would rather work a 9-5

‘Ugh my head.’

‘Why does it hurt so much?’

‘And why does my body feel so weak?’

These are the questions that plagued Edward when he woke up. The bed that he was sleeping on felt very unfamiliar to him. This was the nicest bed that he had ever felt. He only knew the feeling of the small and uncomfortable mattress that had accompanied him every night for a long time. Experiencing such a change was like going from Hell to Heaven.

“Brother, you’re awake!”

The moment Edward heard those words, something was smothering his face. It was soft and supple but also suffocating. Edward already knew what it was but he had a more important question in his mind.

‘Brother?’

‘I don’t have a sister though?’

A notification soon interrupted his line of focus.

[The Author’s Privilege has been activated.]

[Character: Annie Moonchild]

Title: None

Personality: Deeply in love with her younger brother. Strong-willed, stubborn, and righteous.

[System’s Remark: It wouldn’t be wise to be too affectionate with her.]

Reading the notifications, Edward’s eyelid started to twitch. He had a presumptuous thought.

‘Was I transmigrated to the world that I created?’

Edward was an author—not an official author but one who wrote in his free time. He liked writing because it brought a bit more light to his gloomy work environment. Working a 9-to-5 job in a cubicle bored him to death.

Only his side job as an author made him feel more alive. Yesterday he announced that he was releasing the final chapter of his book. His book wasn’t that popular but it had a small and dedicated fanbase.

With one crazed fan who constantly messaged him. He liked to talk to that fan, treating him as a friend. As they were both enthusiastic about his book, he even got help with future storylines and characters from that fan.

When he announced that the last chapter was going to be the last. That fan sent him an ambiguous message.

“Would you like to live in the world that you created?”

Treating it as a joke at that time he replied to him.

“Of course! Anything is better than this life.”

With that, the fan stopped messaging him. It was quite weird. That fan constantly messaged him about anything. At that time he didn’t think anything of it. The moment he published the final chapter.

He woke up here!

If he knew answering that fan’s question with a yes would send him here. He would have never said yes. He knew how dangerous of a world this was. He questioned whether he could survive at all. It was better to work a 9 to 5 job than to live in this world praying for his survival.

“Annie, can you get off me?”

“You’re seriously suffocating me.”

With muffled words, Annie finally realized the situation and got off of him. This body’s sister had dark long locks. She was quite beautiful. But Edward felt no attraction towards her. It was weird. He had never been so close with such a stranger before, he was very shy and awkward around such beautiful people, but when he looked at her it was like looking at an empty husk in his eyes, husks that were of his creation.

Maybe it was an effect of adapting to this new world and also the fact that the system’s remark told him not to show too much affection.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

“Edward, you need to be more careful.”

“Last night, the guards found you, passed out in the kitchen.”

“I know you hate the feeling of being weak because of your illness, but you can’t push yourself too hard.”

“Big sister, will take care of you.”

Edward felt quite warm being chastised by such a beautiful girl until her last sentence escaped from her mouth. He had already read her personality traits. That sentence was the same feeling a prey felt to a predator, absolute chills.

“Rest up, I’ll get you your breakfast.”

With a sunny smile, she closed his door quietly. Edward stared at the arm that closed his door. He hadn’t noticed it before because he was busy trying to adjust, but the tattoos on her arm caught his attention.

Not only that but her arms had insane muscles. He didn’t doubt that she could beat him quite easily.

‘Those are the beasts that are entrapped in her body.’

‘Does this family follow the teachings of Harold the Beast God?’

‘Or is it just her?’

You could easily identify those who follow the Beast God’s steps by the multiple tattoos on their body. Those tattoos represent the beats that they have captured in their body. The tattoos give the user strength depending on the attribute of the beast.

Once you advanced to a Tier 3 Beastmaster you could summon those beasts to fight alongside you. Beast Tamers could only use the attributes of those beasts, not only that. They could only tame and capture beasts that correlated to their tier.

The moment one tries to capture a beast a tier stronger than the user, their body would start to break apart. Causing them to either explode into a violet death or be in a state close to death. The only way one could break these rules is if they’re strong enough to handle the higher tier beasts, with their body and talent alone.

There were only three paths for humans. Cultivation, Gene Ascension, and Mage. Those are the only three reliable paths that could allow humans to be able to rise to the top. Any other paths were not only more risky but also weaker, usually both.

If one followed the path of the Beast God, then their future was decided by the Beast God. Unless the Beast God randomly dies then one would never be able to surpass them.

[Host should open your interface.]

“How?”

[Just think of it.]

Left with such an unreliable answer, Edward concentrated as hard as possible.

‘Interface, Interface, Interface.’

Lo and behold, it worked.

[Character: Edward Moonchild]

Titles: The Sickly Prince, The Author

The Sickly Prince: -25% constitution, +50 charm

The Author: The Author’s Privilege

Occupation: None

Biography: Edward Moonchild was born on December 2, 1012, in the Fourth Era. Born on the Planet, World of 3 Nations, he has always been weak from birth. This weakness was caused by a miscarriage, he luckily survived, but easily got sick. Luckily he was born in the Moonchild family, an influential family in the kingdom of Hard Iron. He never had to worry about work and was constantly pampered by his family as the youngest. He was handsome and had a unique charm causing many women to be attracted towards him.

Personality: Easy and carefree. Likes to hang out with the many women that are attracted to him. Wants to change his fate.

Unique Skills:

* Minor Harem Halo: You can easily captivate and enchant people of the opposite sex.

(This skill can be upgraded when one’s harem reaches above a thousand.)

* The Author’s Privilege: As the author, most of the characters in this world are of your creation. Any physical contact with characters allows you to see their character panels.

(Can be upgraded as the user becomes stronger.)

[System’s Remark: A weakling that can only rely on his face.]

Reading his title and biography. Edward had a sudden urge to smash his face into a table. He knew what type of character he was born into. A harem protagonist. Not only that but an extremely weak harem protagonist. He was sent into this world with a starting difficulty of Hell.

‘What the hell is the World of 3 Nations?’

‘It must be one of those backwater planets, how unlucky am I to be put on a planet that I had no idea that even existed.’

If he was put on the main planets he could rise quite easily, he wondered if the crazed fan put him in such a place on purpose.

There were 10 main planets: The World of Gods, Sulfur Tower, Myriad Heavens, Tech Dystopia, Tech Utopia, Intrepid Traveling Kingdom, Spirit Plane, Umbral, Limbo, and Origin. Each of these planets represented a faction or a planet that couldn’t be controlled by any factions, nonetheless, they stood at the peak strength of the worlds.

In this universe, there were also different types of characters. He was obviously in the harem category. Those that are harem characters find it quite easy for them to attract enemies. Usually caused by misunderstandings between them and their harem or enemies who have relations with someone in their harem.

He wouldn’t be surprised if he had a few enemies that wanted to kill him right now. Not only that but, there was also luck in this world. Some characters are meant for great things, while others are meant for small things.

He didn’t know if he had any luck or not. As he was more like a variable that was suddenly introduced into the world. Hopefully, he had great luck, and his enemies were randomly struck with lightning.

Edward could only pray that he didn’t have too many enemies right now.
