An Author Turned Cultist
Heart Full of Pride

Heart Full of Pride

A figure dressed in complete black stared at the bloodied Edward. The person didn’t look like his target, but his skill was pointing towards him. He was a rogue, whose skills specialized in tracking enemies.

The appearance of his target was supposed to be skinny and pale, with short hair. But, looking at the current Edward, the appearance didn’t match at all. He was very bloodied, his body was much larger than before, and his hair had grown to his shoulder.

The figure in black was visibly confused, he didn’t know if he should go on the attack or not. Not only that but the target seemed to have stopped walking. Left with no other choice, he decided to attack and talk later.

Clearly, his target was visibly injured, it shouldn’t be too hard to take care of him.

His figure vanished and a black shadow appeared above Edward’s head. A spinning kick was aimed toward his head, inside the figure’s shoe was a well-concealed dagger ready to pierce through his skull.

Edward only felt a slight breeze on the top of his head, he could barely make sense of the figure. All he knew was that he had to counterattack. He had less than a few seconds to move his head before a dagger pierced through his skull.

What was originally aimed at the top of his head had shifted to caving the right side of his face. Edward barely changed the position of his head. The flesh exposed to the world made Edward look like a monster.

‘Pain, so much pain.’

Edward’s face visibly scowled as he could now only see with his left eye, this was his first time in a life-or-death fight against somebody else. His fighting instincts and skills were clearly lower compared to the other party.

The figure, seeing that he had missed the skull, circled to his back while throwing countless daggers at his head. Edward who now looked like a porcupine was at the mercy of a rogue who now stood behind Edward as he struck at his heart with a dirk. Edward couldn’t even respond. As the dagger pierced through his back.

The figure in black relaxed, as he dug deeper into his target’s back. He was quite surprised that Edward was able to dodge his first attack. As he dug deeper into his target’s back he complained about the resilience of his target.

Of course, Edward wouldn't be killed by such attacks, especially when the dirk hadn’t even reached his heart yet, the muscles in his back were quite hard. He sneakily moved his hands to the figure in black’s legs.

Edward was reading the opponent’s character panel while contemplating the pros and cons of a rogue. Rogues were one of the occupations that didn’t have a God or higher being controlling the path. Strong early but very weak later on.

Rogues had insane lethality with their moves but the moment a lower-tier rogue gets caught by an opponent, they are basically dead. They only had burst-type skills and high mobility.

While the figure in black was busy digging his dirk into his back, Edward’s hands were already close to his legs. His hands struck fast, each clasping onto their respective legs. The figure was shocked as he tried to take the dirk out, but Edward tightened the hold of the dagger lodged inside his back.

The figure in black desperately tried to get out of the hold, but his skills wouldn’t work if someone was stopping him from moving. He didn’t have to worry long though, as he felt immeasurable pain from his legs.

Edward had gripped his legs with so much force that it directly shattered the bones inside of his legs. He calmly grabbed the rogue’s arms that were still holding onto the dirk and shattered them too.

Calmly turning around, he stared at the rogue with a calm smile.

“Did you really think your shitty dagger would be able to kill me?”

Each word laced with oozing pride and arrogance, his face which was severely disfigured already healing back to normal, and the daggers lodged inside him were pulled out by Edward. With the wounds swiftly closing. His skill Heart Full of Pride was in full effect.

The man in black was startled, was he fighting a human or a monster in human disguise.

“What the hell are you?”

“Why would I answer the question of a loser?”

“Hehe, you’re right, but you won't be able to smile for long. Even if you kill me, you’ll still be killed by my poison and the other assassins that will be after you.”

“You don’t have to worry about that my friend, Mr. Number 5, your shitty prince will eventually be killed by me.”

For the first time, the figure in black was truly shocked. Not only did he know his name but he knew that he worked for the prince. He wasn’t afraid of death but he was afraid that he provoked the wrong opponent for the prince.

Before he could think much longer, Edward had already crushed his skull with the soles of his shoes. Seeing the brain matter and pieces of his head stuck in his shoes, Edward vomited.

This was his first time killing someone. It was a very surreal experience, almost nauseating. Although he knew that he would eventually go down this path, he didn’t expect it to be so soon. Picking himself back up, he realized that he couldn’t go back to the kingdom.

As for the poison? Edward didn’t even bother to pay attention to it, he did indeed feel a bit of a burning sensation but it had already slowly faded away.

Too many people knew of his identity in this kingdom making his job as a cultist harder. He had a different plan, keep traveling on the main road until he reached the other kingdom.

There were 3 kingdoms in the Human Nation.

Each one was connected to the other by 2 roads, basically forming a triangle between the 3 of them. But first, he had to deal with the corpse. His hand lit up in a deep crimson blaze, as a fire that swirled in a spiral appeared above his right hand.

This was the brimstone fire he acquired from the Horse Bone Blessing. It was only able to burn through things with flesh. It was less effective on trees, grass, and inanimate objects.

As the fire devoured the body of the assassin, all that was left was the clothes and weapons the assassin left behind. He took the clothes and weapons for himself. His original clothes were ruined already and he didn’t mind having a few more weapons.

Swapping clothes, Edward now had a proper glance at how well-built his body was. He had a 6 pack, something he never had before. As he finished swapping clothes, Edward was now in a full black attire that only revealed his head.

Edward, now in his new donated clothes, pondered about his family in the world. They were probably gonna send people to find him, he had to get away from them fast. He appreciated their kindness but they were an obstacle to his growth, he couldn’t be with them.

So taking a glance at the direction of the kingdom one last time, he continued his journey down the road. There would be countless dangers on the road, as many merchants are attacked and robbed by bandits who basically use the roads as a way to find victims.

But there were also many towns and villages located on the road. Edward wanted to find a village to get food and something to travel on, with this pace he was going at, it wouldn’t surprise him if it took him weeks to get to the other kingdom.
