Chapter 43

I follow Ustos out and start taking him to the goons I hired. And even though it takes a while, thanks to his stupid half-atrophied legs, we make it there. I tell the idiots I hired to make Ustos do leg exercises, so I don’t have to devalue myself as a leg trainer in the future.

Now then, I look over the three bags I took from Marfont. I open the first one, It’s filled with clothes and they are too small for me, so I suppose they’ll turn into new emergency bandages.

In the second bag, I find a portrait of some woman that I don’t really care about, a diary that I’ll just use as a notebook in the future when the one I have runs out, and money. Not much money though, 20 silver. Whatever.

In the third bag, I find some more potential bandages and an ink and quill. But weirdly, the ink is light blue; normally, the ink color everyone uses here is black or maybe brown. Hmm, weird. Whatever, I’ll store it in the ring too, I guess.

And with that, I depart from the idiots and their equally braindead captives and start heading to the Ustos household.

Ustos told me the directions beforehand so I found where it is quite fast. The estate is smaller than the Keswick estate but still much better than anything I’ve lived in since I came to this world.

Approaching the entrance, I see a couple of guards stationed at the front gate. I walk up to them and one of the guards, who seems to be of a higher rank than the rest, apparently recognizes me. "Greetings, Mr. Jeldard, it is nice to see you once again. I shall send out a servant to take you to Master Bigil. You may pass."

He opens the gate and tells one of the guards to escort me to Ustos's father's office. While being escorted, I look around my future accommodations; it’s quite nice, with the entrance being a neat little garden and the inside being decorated with nice artwork and furniture. All in all, it’s quite bearable for my great presence, although it could still use some work.

Finally, after a while of walking, we make it there; the guard knocks on the door and waits for an answer, and after some time, I hear a low male voice say, “You may enter.”

After this, the guard opens the door and we both enter; he bows to the head of the household and I bow along with him, after the guard says, “This is Mr. Jeldarad, sir.”

Bigil answers, “Very well, you are dismissed, you may return to your post.” The guard bows again and leaves, so it’s just me and “my dad” left in the room.

Bigil looks me up and down and says, “Hmmh, you changed, haven't you? You look more organized and calm and you even look a bit taller too.”

I imitated the way Ustos told me he talked to his father, “Thank you, father. I’m truly grateful you invested your time and money in me so I could finally be useful and serve the family.”

“You're welcome. I read from your letters, you’ve been diligent in your studies, that’s nice to hear.”

“Yes, father.”

“Although, there are some things that weren’t written.”

“What do you mean, father?”

“It seemed your letters were a tad too short so I decided to write a letter to your older sister in the academy. I asked her to tell me if there was any other business going on around you.

And I was quite shocked to realize that you were kidnapped by commoners. Why did you not make me aware of this happening?”

Huh, I forgot Ustos has a sister in the academy, I think her name was… Well, that’s not important, for now, I need to reply to this null-brain.

“Well, I didn’t deem it necessary; I thought the letters were for me to inform you of my current state of education, Father,” I say, giving the legitimate reason I didn’t write to Bigil.

“Yes, but if you don’t mention important information like you getting kidnapped, you might die on me and all the investments I put in you would have gone to waste.”

“Yes, I understand, father.”

“Very well, you may now leave.”

I bow and depart, leaving the room. I find myself confused about what I’m supposed to do now. Well, I suppose I should find my room. I interrogated Ustos before I snuck him out of the academy, about as many things about the estate, his siblings, his father, etc., as I could think of, so I already know where Ustos's room is located, although only through directions.

So following Ustos's instructions, I find my room, although annoyingly, my room is located in the servants’ quarters.
