Chapter Sixteen

Chapter Sixteen

I had had some concerns on talking about Jessica around Skye when we just became friends. Well, I was mainly concerned about Skye’s feelings, because I didn’t know how she would feel. So at first I didn’t tell her much about it, but whenever we went onto this topic, she didn’t seem to mind that much. We were probably just pure friend relationship, which was a pretty good thing!

The day after Skye and I planned to go to the village, we went. It was such a different view from the camp. People had all kinds of expressions on their faces, and their body languages were showing different messages. This variety and differences finally satisfied my desire for a change. Also it felt really good to have a friend accompanying me.

It didn’t take long before we saw the first screen displaying the information about the oncoming dance. We went over and read it.

It was the first time I heard of a dance, and I was pretty surprised by some of the customs and traditions. Well first of all the guy needed to ask a girl as the date. Moreover, both the guy and the girl needed to wear super formal clothing to the dance. I couldn’t help but imagine myself in a suit and tie, and I laughed at that image. There would also be slow dances, or the most romantic part of the whole dance, and I didn’t know how to slow dance at all!

“Andrew, can you even dance?”

“Nope.”

“How do you plan to ask Jessica?’

“I don’t know.”

“Well, you need to know that you won’t be the only one. Probably half the school is your competitor. Figure out how to win!”

“Skye. Just one week ago i learned about this whole village and human society thing. And now there’s school and social events and such. How should I even deal with it?”

“Just be yourself. We are meant to be suited for this kind of environment.”

“I spent i don’t know how many years in the camp learning to follow orders and to fight.”

“Explore not with your conscious mind, but subconscious.”

I really didn’t get what she meant at that time. How could you even maneuver your subconscious mind? It was designed to be pure instinctual.

“We should go take a look at Jessica’s school.” I said to Skye.

“School doesn’t start till tomorrow!”

“It’s okay we can wait till tomorrow, we will blend in. I don’t think the officers would care that much if we just go back at tomorrow’s lunch time.”

“Are you saying that we will actually be students?”

“Yes of course! That’s the plan.”

The next day we dressed in our school disguise. I put on an empty wireframe glasses and a plaid shirt. I had a black backpack on my back and put on earbuds. I tried to dress in the most normal way to not attract attention.

Then I saw Skye. She was wearing a slim black t-shirt and black leggings, with a pair of converse shoes. Her hair was brushed back neatly and she put on some makeups, even though her face didn’t need makeup to look beautiful.

“Damn Skye, I thought we agreed to blend in, not to attract attention, especially from guys.”

She giggled, “Well, I take that as a compliment.”

It wasn’t hard at all to sneak into the school, or more precisely walked in the front gate and pretended that we were just normal students. Well except the fact that I couldn’t help but notice that a few boys were stealing glances at Skye.

“Could you please remind me why we are even here again?”

“To check on Jessica.”

“Of course I know! That was rhetorical, and also sarcasm!”

“Ha ha! Very funny Skye. i definitely knew it was rhetorical.”

“Now look who’s talking. But really! People are just keep looking at us.”

“You mean yourself specifically right?”

“Well, look at three o’clock.”

I turned right and there stood a group of girls whispering to each other and sneaking looks at me. My eye met one of theirs and that girl just smiled quickly and turned her face away while her friends were giggling. Oh well, they are probably staring at another handsome guy.

Just then, an actual handsome guy entered. Accompanied by his friends, he walked in the middle like a celebrity. He’s in perfect shape and has an extremely handsome face. I’m expecting him to be prideful and mean, but he instead said hello back to all those people who waved at him. Even when some shy girls filled themselves up with courage and walked over to talk to him, he talked back and laughed. This guy seemed pretty impressive.

Then I realized he would be a threat. Not a threat to life, but to my relationship.
