Chapter Eighteen
Our plan of going to Jessica’s school was originally designed to not catch any attention, just to secretly spy on Jessica. The end. However things didn’t exactly go according to our plan.
Just as I was waiting for Jessica’s reply, the bell rang. Apparently it was a period for electives, and everyone just ran around and finally to their classrooms. Skye and I were about to hide somewhere when an old grumpy teacher suddenly walked by. He seemed to have a pretty bad day, and now he just caught Skye and me wandering around.
“What are you two guys doing?” He barked, or more likely roared.
There were a few students on their way to classes, and now they just paused and stared at us.
“Ummm… Going to class?” Skye answered in a very nice good-girl tone. Apparently the emotional tactic didn’t work on the teacher.
“Then why are you two heading towards outside. Together.”
“We have physical education and fitness as elective.” Skye just made it up.
Now more people stood around us, watching the chaos, but I was pretty sure that some of them were just staring at Skye.
The teacher was planning to take us to the principle’s office, but then suddenly a voice behind us started talking. “Yes, Mr. Foster, I assure you, they are in the same class as me. Now if you don’t mind, we need to rush over there so we don’t get punished with ten laps around the track.”
The words seemed to have a magical effect on Mr. Foster, and he immediately brightened up a bit and said, “Okay, I’ll let you two go this time. You two owe Michael one.”
I turned my head and looked at the speaker. He was that handsome and nice person who got a bunch of secret admirers. He was also the potential threat who planned to ask Jessica to the dance. Why was he helping us?
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“I’m sorry, but you are?” I started talking.
“My name’s Michael. And in fact I wanted to ask the same thing to you two. I know almost everyone here, but I don’t recognize you two at all.”
“Ummm, we are two students new to this town. Our parents are friends and they decided to send us to this school for a few days to see the education quality here, so they could decide if they wanted to enroll us into this school. The principle knew about this but I don’t think he bothered to announce it to the teachers.” Skye knitted a lie quickly and gave a faint smile at Michael.
“Oh well. Welcome to this school! I can show you two around a bit later if you need me to.” Michael smiled back at Skye. Damn, no wonder so many girls were crushing on him. That smile was so charming and flashy that it could strike stronger than a lightening bolt.
“I’m Skye. And he’s Andrew.” Skye quickly said. I don’t think she could resist that magic.
“Hey Skye, don’t get distracted,” I whispered to her.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t know what’s happening. Admit it, he just got that charm.”
“Just don’t fall for him, and I hope Jessica doesn’t.”
Just right after I said that, a girl walked up to me, and I could see her group of friends watching in a distance. They were giggling and smiling; some were blushing. Oh no. I could guess what she came for. Skye just winked at me slyly and wandered away. Sigh, Skye, when did you become so absorbed into his school environment that you are acting like a student now.
“Hello! So… So… I heard you are new to this school?” That girl began talking and started to stammer.
“Um yeah. Can I help you?”
“Uh… Uh… No. I mean yes. I mean… Do you want me to show you around for a bit?”
“It’s okay. I’m fine with myself.” I hope this didn’t come out too rudely. Just because I didn’t want to get involved in anything didn’t mean that I want to break their hearts.
“Oh… okay.” The girl sounded kind of down and slowly drifted away, but she suddenly walked back. “My name is Jenny. Here’s my number. Call me when you can!” And she hurried away with her friends.
I turned around and looked at Skye. She was trying so hard to resist her laughter. It was at this moment that I felt like a normal student now. I could just be a normal student and get away with all the saving-humanity-from-world-conquering goals. I could just live a normal life in this school, and all I ever needed to worry about would be some minor petty dramas. I would no longer need to train for killing or studying things that I might never ever use in my life. I could dare to dream to grow up and get into a good university, like other people would. i could make new friends and fell in love with Jessica. There would be no more obstacles in the course of my relationship. All these seemed so ideal to me that I thought I was living a dream right now.
Then there came my actual dream. Jessica was downstairs with a group of friends. They were laughing and talking very excitedly. I pointed it out to Skye, and she hurried over to watch their actions. Then Michael suddenly came. He just merged into the group with so much ease and in a way so smooth that perhaps nobody would realize the change. He gradually talked his way into the center, next to where Jessica was standing.
It was this moment that I felt so isolated from Jessica. Even though she was just one floor below me, it felt like miles. There was nothing I can do. I just stood there, watching hopelessly.
