Do you like surprises? How do most people react to surprises? Most people dislike surprises, we all fit into our cozy lives and live life hoping everything goes the way we want. Surprises, however good or bad are a large part of life. Be it suddenly finding yourself without a job, getting a speeding ticket or finding a hundred dollar bill on the ground. Those are all normal things we experience throught out lives. How you adapt to what life throws your way determines your character. Will you adapt and evolve or stay the same repeating the mistakes of the past? Eian didn't know how to react to the pulsing glow of the tattoos on his forearm. When they first appeared he was surprised, but gradually ignored it as he had other more important things to worry about. Such as staying alive.
"Ummm guys my tattoos sort of blinking." Eian scratched his head with some trepidation.
"What? What do you mean Eian? Does it feel alright?" Alex frowned with concern and looked at him.
"Does it hurt?" Sarah lifted an eyebrow.
"No actually it doesn't hurt, but it's making me super nervous. You guys think I broke it somehow?" Eian crinkled his brow at his arm, feeling anxious about the cause and effect.
Eian proceeded to touch his tattoo gently, when suddenly the mark which read Body glowed brighter than the rest and the entire thing stopped blinking. An electric spike of electricity spiked through his body starting from his heart. The sensation was uncomfortable and very similar to how a numbed leg feels when blood rushes back into it. He fell to the ground breathing in ackwardly in quick short breaths, while his companions freaked out.
"Eian! Dude! Buddy! You okay man?! What the hell!" Alex jumped as he watched him stumble to the ground, but unable to run to him due to his injured leg.
Sarah raced over to his side to try to help and tried to feel vitals.
"What's wrong with him!?" Jessica freaked and shrunk back, worried he had suffered a stroke.
"Hey. Hey calm down guys. I think I'm okay. That thing just caught me by surprise. My tattoo reading Body's glowing brighter than the other two now though and I felt like I swallowed a thunderbolt. I just feel full of adrenaline now though." Eian rubbed his eyes while explaining, as he got up with Sarah's help.
After a short while of concern for his health the group calmed down. Eian felt weird his body was filled to the brim with unused energy and he felt he could run a thousand miles. Sarah and Alex kept asking him if the tattoo had changed and he replied the red Body part was just glowing, but nothing apart from that had changed. Jessica was more restrained as she was still emotionally drained from crying after her last fight and to be honest she didn't particularly care all that much at the moment. They decided to keep moving and as they couldn't store the water anywhere they decided to drink little over their fill.
"I wonder if this thing's permanent. I feel like my bodies on overdrive." Eian commented out of nowhere as he cracked his neck lightly.
"Well good for you. I wonder why it was glowing in the first place?" Alex scratched his head and watched curiously.
"Who cares? We can think and talk all day, but we won't get any closer to getting out if we do it all day." Jessica slumped dejectedly and stared at the ground frowning.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"I think it has to do with him killing the big aracnid." Sarah assumed aloud, while ignoring Jessicas pessimism.
"It wasn't glowing immediately after I killed it thought. I'm one hundred percent sure." Eian shook his head, confident in his remark.
"What if it's because he broke the eggs too? Did you check it then?" Alex had a thoughful look while trying to follow along Sarah's train of thought.
"Actually.... now that you mention it. No I didn't check it after the eggs." Eian stared up at the ceiling whilst remembering.
"Hey back to my magic idea. You think it could be the marks altering you?" Sarah grinned excitiedly.
"I'm not sure... I feel like somethings happening on the inside, but even if thats true how long will it take?" Eian shrugged.
"Ugh.. Lets just get out as fast as we can and discuss this when we get out please. I'm tired and I'm sure we'll be hungry soon too." Jessica announced aloud while playing with her hair.
Silence once more descended as they once more thought of their food, or as the circumstances dictated the lack of it. None of them were keen on the idea of eating spider flesh, also they weren't sure it was even edible. The glowing mushrooms were probably going to kill them if consumed, so that too was out. They also had other problems such as giant freaking spiders and freaky glowing arm tattoos, though the latter was probably not bad for them. Who knew how many of those things were in these tunnels and though they weren't was difficult to kill as they had first assumed it wasn't exactly something they wanted to keep doing. On that though Eian had more to say.
"We all need at least one torch per person. I don't like how both Sarah and Alex were struggling due to not having one." Eian looked at each of them briefly.
"There I agree with you man. I'm definately not looking foward to getting covered in goo again." Alex shuddered with disgust clearly showing on his face.
"Yes and I don't want to wrestle with one like a monkey on a dog." Sarah shuddered remembering the feel of its coarse hair as she grabbed on for dear life.
Jessica shivered and moaned remembering those horrible things.
"We should have all grabbed one when we saw some back there before the first three spiders. Think we should go back?" Alex sighed sounding not too keen on the idea.
"Hell no. The sooner we're out the sooner I'm happy. We'll probably find some more eventually or something better." Eian shook his head and the rest agreed readily.
Slowly the cave shrunk back to a passageway and they stumbled upon a pair of regular giant spiders, if you could ever consider giant spider such. Eian dispatched one alone and Alex killed another with help from Sarah, while Jessica watched from behind. Alexanders tattoos also began to blink and he informed the others.
"What do you guys think I should do?" Alex's eyes darted about as he asked slightly worried over what occured with Eian.
"Just get it over with man. I suggest you sit though. Don't want to scrape your knees by mistake." Eian gave a shrug.
"Wait! Wait! Try touching either the green one or the blue one." Sarah quickly intervened and was nodding.
"Hold on. Please Alex be careful. Aren't you guys being too hasty about this? Let's talk it over. There's no guarantee the same thing that happened to Eian will happen to Alex." Jessica frowned with worry in her voice.
"Well that's true Jess, but do you really think I can go on without ever touching my forearm? What if I do it by mistake when I sleep or worse during a fight?" Alex shrugged.
"I still say you should try the green one or the blue one. It'll show us if theres a different effect for each color. I think Eian touched the red part first thats why its glowing." Sarah explained carefully.
"Your life your choice Alex. I'm not gonna tell you what to do." Eian said neutrally and shrugged again.
"Well... I guess I'll go with blue. I can't say I'm not curious if it's magic." Alex nodded after a split second careful decision.
"Just be careful please and sit down Eian's right. You guys are idiots enough as is without bumping your heads." Jessica sighed with worry and shook her head.
Slowly Alexander sat down as to not hurt himself, especially his injured leg. He observed his fore-arm with caution and dwelled on the possibility of magic. He mentally asked himself what could have possibly lead him here debating this surreal chain of events. Quickly before he could second doubt himself he touched the blue tattoo which read Spirit:0. The world fell away from him in a flood of white.
