Homunculi; Angel (3)

Homunculi; Angel (3)

The monster finally reacted by extending both wings, with a single flap around thirty or forty feathers that turned into a dark mineral similar to iron, heading towards them.

—Waaahh!

Aiden desperately looked to one side and then the other searching for a place to take cover, but they were in the middle of the street, there was no place to run to for shelter. He covered his face with his arms and then after a second of nothing happening, he uncovered himself to see sparks dancing around him. Then he realized that the white-blue sparks came from the crown of Maika's head, who had thrown the electricity while Aiden was trembling and covering himself.

The white-blue lightning struck the iron feathers, sending them in random directions, less where she and Aiden were.

—Remarkable… You're wonderful! You can fight against a monster like that. Amazing, Maika, we can do it!

Maika slightly lowered her head, her cheeks also blushed in the same way. Prior to their encounter, those words would have had a different meaning, one that she didn't appreciate, but this time that idea didn't even cross her mind. It was clear that he wouldn't call her a monster, no matter what happens.

—Don't distract me, idiot. And flattering me doesn't make me happy, for your information! —Finishing her line, she shot another incandescent pulsating lightning like a glowing knife cutting through the environment.

«I understand, I understand, “don't distract me,” it's fine, but really, seen how happy you are now… You have to be more honest».

Aiden's juvenile wanderings were interrupted when the angel imposed himself by charging at an incredible speed towards them.

Maika pushed Aiden, but this wasn't just pushed to the side, he felt a tingling all over his body followed by a sharp momentary burning. The distance that he had traveled in the air was too much for a simple push.

He looked at the ground, at his feet more exactly, from them came lines of current connected to the ground, when his feet touched the ground again, he had moved away about ten meters from where he was before.

—Maika! —shouted Aiden when he came back to himself from the amazement of what had just happened to him.

He saw that she was okay and at a safe distance. Maika had charged the boy with the same frequency as herself and after making contact, both were shot out in opposite positions, meaning, like magnets of the same pole, it created a repulsion effect with the push.

«Thank goodness she's okay» he thought, but those thoughts changed when he saw the monster between them separating them. With a single movement of its wings, the angel shot towards Maika, leaving a beautiful emerald trail.

Aiden, who was a few meters behind, received the blow directly from the impressive air burst caused by the pressure that was generated with the flap. He not only felt his organs being crushed and found it difficult to regain his breath, but the pressure was so strong that Aiden's face suffered some scrapes, almost like an air knife; in addition, the tiny stones and earth that flew backwards hit him here and there.

—Ahhhg…Cuf, cof, coff! —He took a half-breath of air that was cut off by a suffocating cough caused by the dust he ingested.

All of that was just from the impulse, who the angel really wanted to attack was Maika, so Aiden didn't take his eyes off her for a second.

The hunter made a big jump to the side, dodging the angel, who passed by far. What would have happened if that blow hit her? The idea briefly crossed their minds. Similarly to Aiden, sparks came out of her feet and lines of current tied her to the ground and from her hands, evoking the image of a spidery superhero. Complex and fine electrical webs made contact with the ground, as if swaying from a walking columbine.

—Get as close as you can, I'll take you and position us both better!

Aiden ran as fast as he could, even knowing that it would only take him a couple of seconds, he ran at full speed towards where she was, that only couple of seconds was his only chance.

Meanwhile, Maika, as soon as she made direct contact with the ground with her feet, shot two white-blue lightning bolts with a small pause between the shots, intercepting the angel's trajectory.

Just like before, she was able to dodge them without a problem, but it didn't matter. The goal was not to hit her, but to gain some distance and time to rejoin Aiden again.

Maika didn't waste a single second of the time that it took her so much effort to get and regrouped with her partner, and holding him in her arms, they slid several more meters away from the angel.

The angel made the same type of noise mixed with static as before, he rose, spread its wings and began to flap them once, twice, again and again.

Waves of sharp feathers like knives came one after the other wherever they looked, all they could see were the knives above them. Maika used the electric magic object and created a strong magnetic field around them, repelling the feathers, but she couldn't do it forever.

—Seems to be some Spanish mixed with the static —said Aiden, trying however he could to keep himself grounded from the unscrupulous scene before his eyes—. Was the owner of the body originally Hispanic?

—Who knows, probably. More importantly, I'm not going to last much longer and the angel's wings reproduce as fast as cells, once a feather is shot, another grows in its place!

They were cornered, the only thing keeping him safe were small sparks and blue flashes every time the feathers came close.

The psychological pressure unleashed in this situation was greater than the fear of death that he had already experienced before. They were cornered by feathers as sharp as a cutting weapon capable of piercing his skin, muscle, bone, organs, and then sticking into the ground, that didn't stop being shot towards them.

If he were to get hit by one, it would be his end, it was so terrifyingly easy that it would go through Aiden as if he were a piece of paper. This is like a type of torture, thought Aiden.

—Do something, do something, do something! But what can I do? Damn… I haven't done anything but get lucky since I supposedly came to save her!

Among the feather rain, from the ground, in front of Aiden, partially from all sides, where he can see a substance emerged and floated without direction or sense.

—Right, there's that… Is it worth trying? This kind of thing, even in a novel, sounds silly. I have no idea what I'm doing, but… Hah. Just listen to yourself, Aiden. Where in this adventure had I had a clear idea of what's going on? What event in my life made me grow to doubt myself… If I didn't even try it first!?

Aiden formed a fist and the smoke began to compress near the angel. He clenched his fist with all his strength.

—Even if I'm weak or useless, I'll protect you. There's no other way, you hear me, Maika!? And you, too monster, watch well damn bastard! —Aiden raised his fist, pointing with all his strength towards the angel.

The black smoke flew and created a black wind whirlwind, but it wasn't the same black smoke that only Aiden could see, Maika could also see it, and she couldn't believe what her eyes were seeing. The black wind appeared out of nowhere, gathered around the angel, devouring it and although it didn't actually do much damage, it stopped it from continuing to shoot the iron feathers.

—Now, shoot!

He had no time to think about it, much less to be amazed or demand an explanation from Aiden. In less than a second after Aiden gave the order, the bow was in her hands; Maika tensed the invisible string and from the tips of her fingers the energy began to gather until it took the shape of an arrow.

The light arrow, from the end that she held with her fingers, began to change to a dark red color, and particles were shed from it. Then she released it. Aiden felt an unmistakable taste of iron in his mouth once the trail of particles reached him.

With the opportunity created by Aiden, the blood arrow hit its target. It hit just on the forehead covered by the mask of the angel and a storm of blood on fire covered the body completely. Once it was completely enveloped by the flames, the black whirlwind that kept it in the sky dissipated and the angel fell to the ground.

—D-Did we make it…? We made it!

—Wait, Aiden! —Maika's words interrupted Aiden's victory celebration.

The angel raised his arm to the sky. The horrifying scene was ingrained in the minds of both of them, it was a sight like that of seeing someone cursing the ones who brought him to the stake.

The problem was that the angel wasn't just cursing them, much less praying, which meant that he was going to do something else.

From his hand, an invisible extremity extended more than 20 meters upwards. A giant sword covered in flames was what both of them saw.

Without giving them time to fully understand what was happening, the ridiculous sword fell down on them.
