They were wings like those of a true demon.
Aberrant, nauseating, and violent. They could see pulsations, like those of a living being, on them. With each expansion, a slightly perceptible greenish tone was visible.
Maika watched without being able to believe what she saw; no, without wanting to believe it, every second that Aiden, without making any sound, without even saying a word, turned into that.
The pain in her chest grew at the same rate as Aiden's wings. This was not the Aiden she knew. He had turned into a monster.
The black wings reached over fifteen meters and continued growing. The surrounding mist moved in an aberrant, hasty manner, transmitting a horrible and anguishing sensation.
Aiden's body straightened up completely in an unnatural way due to the wings growing out of his back. He kept his head down the whole time, his hair fell over his face, hiding his lost gaze.
Aiden raised his left hand. At the same time, the angel charged towards Aiden with such speed that he disappeared from Maika's sight. As he raised his arm, a sharp object similar to a spear appeared in the air. About one and a half meters long, one or two centimeters thick at the tip, that gradually thickened until it was about forty-five centimeters. More than a spear, it reflected the appearance of a geometric body.
—¡¿tyOMCO…wrETÖ!!
Everything happened in much less than a hundredth of a fraction of a second. The spear had been embedded a few centimeters above the abdomen. As he charged with super speed that even left sound behind, the angel's body passed through the spear that was equal to a solid object.
Stabbed was not the correct expression. The spear happened to be there, static in the air, and as the creature flew at a speed faster than sound, it couldn't avoid the object in the middle of the way that obstructed its passage.

Aiden slightly lifted his head, there was no way to know if he understood what the angel said or just reacted to the repulsive voice he emitted.
With a lost gaze, he remained in the same position for several seconds, and the wings on his back began to stir, moving from side to side noisily. Colliding with each other and with buildings, destroying everything in their path. Large chunks of concrete, glass, and incredibly sturdy metal beams flew through the skies. They spoke for themselves with actions, it was as if they said that they had reached the limit of how much they could be in this world.
The angel fell, helpless and defeated, as the spear that held him in the air disappeared, and in the same defeated way, Aiden too fell face first to the ground, unconscious.
The monstrous protuberances continued crashing into each other and whipping the ground. About a minute later, the wings growing from Aiden's back and the black wind around him began to fade, making the scene from just a few moments ago seem like only a nightmare.
Maika crawled towards Aiden as best she could, she had to do something quickly, even now, he was bleeding out. She struggled to get up, closed her eyes and hardened her resolve harder than any metal.

Maika stretched her arm forward and with her other hand grabbed the bracelet on her wrist. As she pulled on it to the breaking point, the outlines of an object about forty or fifty centimeters, marked by the violent wind and dust, began to take shape.
Her lips trembled. What she was about to do was unforgivable, she understood that, but a driving force inside her at that time pushed her to continue. Even with her life at the limit, no, worse yet, even at the purpose of her life at stake, a taboo was beginning to take form. To even think of resorting to this is a sin, such were the hard teachings of her master.
When her desperation was the greatest, a voice reached her ears, the same voice that helped Aiden before to get here and one she was much too familiar with.
—Heavens, what a spectacle.
In the midst of the destruction, a person wearing a lab coat had appeared, more precisely next to the unconscious Aiden.
—Master! —said Maika, unable to hide the anguish in her voice.
—Calm down, Maika. I'm going to save him. For you, I decided to intervene after all. I can't let such a valuable piece go to waste. Even less allow you to continue what you were doing.
Maika's master crouched and roughly injected a cocktail of drugs into Aiden.
—You're my sword, I think it's a good time to get a shield —he said addressing Maika—. Now, follow my instructions and the boy will be saved.
The words coming from that person managed to calm, more or less, her concern. Her concern had been so great that she even felt her stomach turn; that's how powerful the storm in Maika's chest was.
—However —added Maika's master—, it's a shame.
As if waiting for the signal of his words, the lifeless body of the angel reacted strangely, even by the standards of everything that had happened.
—It was a good opportunity to study the homunculus. Regrettably, it seems that won't be possible this time.
It started in the chest area, where he had been pierced, as if they were witnessing a chemical reaction or if a mighty acid had been spread on the hole's contours. The angel's body was slowly eaten away from the inside out.
There was no residue at all, it was as if millions of microscopic creatures devoured towards another dimension the material that made up the monster's body. It continued like this for one or two minutes until it was reduced to nothing, not even dust.
Even Maika, as alarmed as she was for Aiden, couldn't help but watch the process with attention.
—Master, what just happened?
—I knew it… Ha..haha…Hahahahaha! I wasn't wrong. This is it. This is undoubtedly the power that I need —ignoring Maika, the man couldn't contain himself anymore and proceeded to shout to the heavens—. Did you want to cause a commotion in my territory? Force me to act? Ha! How do you like it, my cursed enemies!? Not only did you help awaken the boy, but you put him in the palm of my hand.
He clenched his fist with all his strength. After a few seconds, he relaxed it. He proceeded to pick up the half-dead boy at his feet with his arms.
—Come on, Maika. We have to save him, no matter the cost.
She was worried about his reaction and not understanding what he was referring to or who he was talking to, but there was a more important matter present in her mind and that was, of course, Aiden. At least with her master here, Aiden wasn't in danger of suddenly dying, the girl thought, and finally, she could let out a slight sigh of relief.
Maika approached the unconscious boy, seeing him in that state broke her heart for some reason that she couldn't find words to express.
She stayed a few steps behind, perplexed, seeing the expression on the boy's face that seemed to be sleeping peacefully.
—I can't stand you… —whispered Maika—. Since I met you, you haven't done anything but highlight how according to you, I'm wrong; then you do whatever you want; and despite all that, I can't help but feel a hole in my chest when I see you like this… When you wake up, I'm going to make up for everything that I want, so prepare yourself!
