Homunculi; Angel (1)

Homunculi; Angel (1)

The moment the connection was cut, both monsters stopped in their advance for several seconds and immediately afterward jumped towards the one that was injured.

Maika did not waste the opportunity, she immediately realized that something had happened to the conjurer, so she quickly placed a magical matrix. One of the many tricks in her arsenal that she had placed beforehand with hopes of immobilizing them, and set off to track the source of the magic.

She had felt a source of magic being activated nearby, and this time she wasn't going to let it escape. However, it was a mistake to let them go, and now she had just realized it.

In the short time they were trapped, instead of trying to escape, the matrix made the ring that their instincts so desired. They proceeded to devour each other until the strongest one emerged victorious and broke the spell.

Soon it reached Maika, no, it went beyond her and kidnapped its creator in the face of the present. Immediately afterward the creature flew high and sinisterly wrapped up that even the sorcerer's screams stopped. A sphere in the sky blocked the moonlight, giving the impression of a completely black sky.

—Can they evolve by devouring each other!? It was a mistake on my part, and now that it has fed on a strong source of energy. It's entering the final phase!

Maika fired a burst of powerful ammunition, but it did nothing. They were repelled by an invisible force, illuminating the night sky momentarily with artificial fireworks, unable to reach the moon.

Cracks began to appear in the sphere, pieces began to fall, significantly small, one after the other until they revealed what was inside.

—The angel… is being born.

Maika dropped the gun which disappeared midair, and as she closed her fist again another object began to materialize. Her concentration level to do this was simply impressive.

—It's the worst possible outcome… If it has come to this, I have no other choice. My last available card to play —Maika grabbed her wrist where the pendant hung, to then slit it—. If you want to play rough, so be it!

A small metal bow of no more than one meter appeared in her hand. With her blood wrote some symbols on the weapon's frame, and exactly like an experienced archer, she prepared to shoot.

At the same time a piece of the sky began to break, Aiden regained consciousness in the middle of the rubble. Fractures continued to appear on the surface of the sphere, and a massive pressure grew inside him. It was strange and complicated to explain, his blood boiled, but for some reason it was not a bad feeling, quite the opposite. Something inside him was reacting to the monstrosity.

He tried to get up, a sharp pain in his side made it difficult at first. The wound, although the blood loss was minimal, almost like a stigma, did not stop bleeding. With effort, he managed to stand up and walk to the nearest window, then he saw it.

It was not the sky in reality, but it gave the impression that it was the sky itself cracking. In the spherical object, from one of the holes that appeared, one could see an eye peeking out.

The sphere in the sky creaked a couple of times more and finally broke completely, a sound similar to that of shattered glass flooded the place and the hearts of Aiden and Maika. Unlike in the case of appearances, the temperature did not drop, instead of feeling a horrible chill running down his spine, a feeling of heat grew in Aiden's chest.

Both admired it for a moment from where they were. Although it emitted a light, a celestial aura and majestic, somehow it was as if the night were being filled with dread.

Could that be considered an angel?

The being floated in the immense sky with transparent wings like glass, wore a white robe with gold embroidery along with a golden and silver stole. To say that he wore it, however, was not the correct expression, it was more like they were part of his skin. They were not simple embroideries, it was as if those colors that stood out, the golden edges that ran along his body, were like veins. The halo that floated centimeters above his head in the shape of a dented cone and a mask that covered his face made him look like an extraterrestrial, extremely disturbing, under his “clothes.” It seemed that something unimaginable moved, but nothing protruded from this.

He did not make any movement, and yet, their bodies trembled like they had never done before. Both Aiden and Maika were left speechless, admiring the being in the sky. The creature only remained floating above the buildings.

Aiden hurried to climb to the roof, fortunately the stairs were not damaged in the fight against the wizard.

How does an angel see the world? That they don't give importance to their enemies. That question formed in the depths of Aiden's consciousness. Student Aiden and hunter Maika came to the old district to eliminate the homunculi, but this time, even though it may not be called authentic, they ended up fighting against an angel that appeared in front of them.

The angel spread its wings and the air pressure alone hit them both. It made Aiden feel his organs being squeezed against his bones and flesh, taking all the air out of his lungs. His consciousness swayed for a second, but he resisted with his legs as best he could to stay standing.

The wings began to gain color, a range of beautiful colors of the rainbow, as if blood finally entered them. The strangest thing was that, evocative of the image of a turbine in the water, a prismatic beam emerged; like a mystical fire rainbow, from the joint where the wings end and the back begins.

—Incredible… —said Aiden, as soon as he filled his lungs with air again—. Is it really a monster? —he added, shocked and absorbed by the beautiful scene.

Maika would not run any risks, she prepared to shoot with the bow. A mass of red energy gathered at the tip of her fingers and extended to the bow, forming a dark-red light arrow. Her concentration was such that she did not even notice Aiden in the building next door, separated by a few meters, as this was her only opportunity.

The price of using that magic was not small at all, but Maika would not hesitate for something like that.

—If you're talking about alchemy, everyone knows these words —she said, as if remembering something—, equivalent exchange. It's simple equivalent exchange.

Maika transmuted her life and blood into fuel, passed her weapon and shot the light arrow that contained all her hope.

The angel put his arm between the projectile and his torso, the movement was so fast that they couldn't see it being executed. The arrow hit the extremity, he didn't know if to call that an explosion, there was only a blinding red flash, but it was certainly a terrifying attack.

—Did she make it!? —asked Aiden, to the skies.

Expectation grew, and his impatience was such that time seemed to go multiple times slower.

The curtain of red smoke was washed away by the wind, revealing the creature. The right half of the angel's body seemed as if it had been burned completely. The sleeve of the clergy looking tunic, as strange as it seemed, since it was its skin, was charred. Even the majestic right wing was now full of holes and a dark color compared to the other. The angel, like before, showed no signs of making another move, even when its body had been hurt to such an extent.

—It wasn't enough! —Cold sweat ran down every inch of Aiden's body, he started to sweat excessively, and his vision became blurry for a second.

His wounds were starting to take their toll. But he wasn't the only one. The effects of using the bow were already visible in Maika too. Her breathing was heavy and sweat ran down her forehead constantly.

The angel continued on its own, inspecting its body and the damage it had received. Maika was about to retreat, being exposed was not a good idea, especially now that she had attacked it. That was when she saw a figure standing in the building next to the one she was in.

Clothes torn, covered in dirt and dust, struggling just to stand, the exhaustion on her face said it all, she wasn't even sure she would hear his words clearly, but she still had to try.

—Aiden?!

In response, the boy, who until the other day lived a normal life, responded with a casual greeting, shook his fingers in the shape of a gun near his forehead while wearing a confident smile on his face.
