Act 2: Beginning of a Journey; chapter 16: Booklet?

Mawi who had been silent all this time suddenly looked at the entrance of the house which was packed full of people. However, he was not looking at any of the people there but on that giant that was stepping out of the house. It was easily three to four meters tall, its whole body is covered in grease and mud, paired with its long hair both on its body and head, the kapre looked messy and dirty. The spirit wears no clothes; however, it does not seem bothered by its nudity. However, this kapre does not have its trademark tabako, instead, it was holding a branch that resembles a crude club.

Sensing that someone was looking at him, the kapre looked back and was surprised to see Mawi staring straight at him. The kapre knew immediately that the young man could see him. Realizing this, the kapre grinned at him like having discovered a new toy, showing Mawi all its yellowish-brown teeth. This grin made Mawi feel a cold chill run up his spine, and made his hairs stand on its end. Then his face became pale, and large beads of sweats formed and rolled down from his forehead. Lola Yma, seeing this was surprised and then worried. She knew what was happening even without her looking back. She immediately grabbed her walking stick and tapped it on the floor. This simple action did not catch anybody’s attention, except for Mawi and the kapre.

For Mawi, Lola Yma’s action had a calming effect. A warm air started to spread from his head down to his feet, this warm air immediately made him comfortable and helped him calm down. However, the opposite happened to the kapre. After hearing Lola Yma’s stick tap on the ground, an oppressive pressure was suddenly upon the kapre. It suddenly has a feeling that a true giant is looking down at it, like how a person would look down at an ant. Terror is the only expression on its two large eyes and realizing how dangerous it is to stay any longer, it immediately turned into a wisp of smoke and darted out of the house to return to its abode.

Seeing that the kapre left, Lola Yma then withdrew her dungan. Apparently, she released her dungan when she noticed that something was wrong, and it was her dungan that pressured the kapre to leave. She then looked at Mawi deeply before she proceeded to wake the woman up.

Mawi on the other hand, felt that he was saved from something dangerous; however, he also felt that what Lola Yma did was familiar to him. Like, someone or something has already done it before, but not the same as what the old woman did. Breathing a sigh of relief, Mawi did not think about it for the meantime.

A few minutes later the woman regained her consciousness. A look of exhaustion and confusion could be seen on her face, proof that her ordeal earlier was not something to laugh or make light of. She tried to move but found that her body was weak, and she was dripping with sweat; the woman struggled to move but to no avail, so she tried speaking.

“W-w-water…P-p-please…” With a weak voice, she was even struggling just to speak.

“Quick! Someone, bring me a glass of water!” Hearing the woman speak, chairman Buboy immediately instructed one of the people to get a glass of water for the woman.

Two of the people who were holding her down earlier breathed a sigh of relief and one of them tried to ask the woman.

“Ellaine! Are you okay? We were so worried about you!” One of the men asked. Apparently, the woman’s name is Ellaine. It was at this time that someone brought a glass of water for the woman to drink.

“Yes. I am fine. Who are these people?” After drinking the glass of water, Ellaine, the woman who was possessed, started asking questions.

“You are in my house.” Chairman Buboy answered and started to explain the situation to her. “You were brought here almost an hour ago because you were…not acting yourself.”

“You have been possessed by a spirit.” Lola Yma rolled her eyes when she heard Buboy’s statement and directly told the girl of what happened, Buboy could only laugh wryly upon hearing Lola Yma’s remarks.

“It was a kapre. The spirit was angry because you desecrated his home and took something from him!” There was a tone of reprimand in Lola Yma’s voice. Although she could be considered on the side of humans, she also knows that some spirits will not directly harm a human for no reason.
