If there was something Irwin hated more than the purple parchment, it was teleportation.
It feels like your body gets twisted and deformed and you have such a headache that you felt like dying, not to mention the instant urge to vomit your guts out.
However he could not even vomit this time because the moment his vision cleared out, he saw a 5 metre long serpent fly towards him with two thick and sharp teeth out .
Irwin evaded the attack and the serpent destroyed a nearby rock .
" holy fuck why are its teeth so sharp "
Since they were called fire breathing serpernts he thought this was going to be a range fight, but these bastards fought melee as well .
The serpent removed its teeth out the rock by shattering it and open its mouth until a big fireball started to form, however instead of running away Irwin charged straight at it, and that was because of his blade that could cut through mana attacks .
The fireball was released and just as it was about to reach him, he used one LP to activate the skill and cut the fireball in the middle like a chunk of cheese.
The two halves of the fireball seperated until they dissipated, and before the serpent had time to throw another one he swinged his blade and cut it in half, blue blood splattered all over his face and its tail started to move like a headless rooster .
And right in that moment, without knowing how that word even came to his mind, he said: " Devouring "
A black creature at the size of an egg came out of his right palm , opened its mouth and sucked the serpent whole . It literally scared the shit outta Irwin!
" WHAT THE... Hey parchment why is that thing living on my hand "
He wanted to complain but he stopped since he just realised that his energy pool had grown larger, even his mana star was glowing. He had gained 2 energy points and 1 mana just from one serpent alone.
With 20 mana you became a mage apprentice, with 50 mana you became a fully fledged mage with the status of an actual aristocrat and he just gained the equivalence of 3 energy from devouring a single monster. This skill was a lot better than he had thought!
" So that was my innate skill devouring huh? Worthy of its name since it literally devoured the poor thing, I am starting to feel bad about these serpents now "
- well dont, because 3 more are heading your way.
After the heads up from the parchment he activated his green barrier, after all he wasnt skilled enough to cut through 3 fireballs at once .
But this time his charge came more violently and driven by thirst, he didnt want the serpents to use a lot of energy or mana so he could devour more.
And just like he did before, he charge and swinged his blade but his attempt to cut them in half didnt work.
These bastards knew how to work on groups as well,so the moment his blade entered their skin another serpent would charge at him and push him away. It was like they were protecting each other.

" I like your team fight guys but youre already done "
The moment blood dripped off of them he activated his blood web skill which took 1 LP everytime it was activated, the dripping blood turned into webs which trapped them and for extra LP he made the webs explode .
" This skill was well thought by me but it consumes too much mana " he complained as he walked towards the already scattered serpents .
And he was right, took around 3 webs to cause decent damage and each web cost 1 LP.
Not to mention that they cost extra LP each everytime he exploded the webs, so that attack alone cost him all of his energy pool .
" Devour "
That terrifying creature came out of his palm again opened its mouth and swallowed them whole.
Words started being written on the parchment which notified him that he had absorbed 6 more LP and 3 Mana, but surprisingly it was not enough.
- Innate ability 'Upgrade' was activated, your innate skill 'Devour' gained the extra effect 'Steal' .
Effect ' Steal ' : There is a high chance you steal a random skill from the enemies you devour.
Skill 'Fire Breath' successfully stolen.
"Hey parchment what does this mean I am confused? "
- How annoying, apparently you already had an innate ability from the moment you were born..
" I had? really? How come I never used it then? "
- Its because you couldnt, you see, your innate ability is called 'Upgrade', it changes the basis of every skill you learn into a stronger and upgraded version of it.
" So its pretty useless to me then, I remember my predecessor saying that I can never learn any skills myself and can only use skills through you "
- That was indeed the case, in normal circumstances I would have killed you for using this effect steal but this time it was my fault, I overlooked something. Your innate ability was pretty useless but it became useful once I gave you an innate ability. It upgraded it from devouring to a skill that devour and steals skills, so the skills you steal can completely be upgraded again .. Hehe this innate ability of yours its quite smart to be honest, I wont remove it since its stubborness to be of use has impressed me .
" Brother parchment you are talking as if innate abilities are people that can feel and think "
- well its to soon for you to ask such questions, so for now focus on beating the queen serpent .
" I wonder how much stronger I will become after devouring her "
- you cant devour her idiot, I need to extract her body to make the statue. That was your intention wasnt it?
His hopes of devouring the queen serpent and stealing some super strong skill from her disappeared, not only from what the parchment told him but also by the fact that he found himself in front of 12 more serpents.
" Shit! This is gonna get ugly "
He had already used all of his energy pool to make the webs explode, and 1 lp regenerated in over 40 seconds.
" looks like I have to fight them with my swordsmanship alone. FUCK i hate putting myself in danger "
