Chapter 2 My Daughter?

Sitting on the chair in the corridor of the hospital, Brandon Cantu looked dejected.

He tried to recall his past 36 years. He recalled his every girlfriend and even how many condoms he had used, but he found that he didn't have the memory of this girl.

How could he suddenly have such a daughter?

While Brandon was confused, the door of the operating room was opened.

Wearing a surgical uniform, Eartha Cantu walked out of the operating room without looking at Brandon but walked towards her office.

Brandon immediately followed her. He couldn't lose his wife.

"Eartha, trust me. I don't know who she is.

"Eartha, you can't wrongly accuse me without evidence. Although I used to be a playboy, I love you. You know that.

"Eartha...

"I swear I only used condoms with you in my life. I’ve only slept with you."

All of a sudden, Eartha stopped, and Brandon was surprised.

"Eartha." Brandon approached her with a smile and tried to pull her hand.

However, Eartha didn't give him any chance. She sneered, "If you keep shouting, the whole hospital will know who you have slept with. Mr. Cantu, you’ll be famous."

Eartha slammed the door shut.

Brandon was very angry. He didn't expect to have a daughter, and he wanted to see where this girl came from.

He made a phone call. "I want a paternity test."

"The little girl came to our hospital by herself. After the examination, we found that she was beaten all over her body, with 15 kinds of injuries in total. She has been in a coma for two days." Eartha looked at Yolanda, who was lying on the bed in a coma. Although she didn't know who the little girl was, she felt sorry for her.

Eartha would be worried about her three kids when they were hurt a little, let alone being beaten, and she never beat them.

The police looked at Yolanda and also felt sorry for her. He didn't know why her parents would beat such a cute girl.

"Mrs. Cantu, thank you for your cooperation. We are leaving now."

After sending the police away, Eartha went back to the bed. She looked at Yolanda carefully and found that she looked like Brandon.

She knew that when Brandon was young, he had a lot of girlfriends, but before marriage, he had promised that he would only love her for the rest of his life, and she believed him.

But now Eartha suddenly felt confused.

She raised her hand and wiped her tears off.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

She couldn't cry in the hospital. Now it was all Brandon's gossip in the hospital. If she was seen crying in the hospital, the affair of Brandon would be confirmed.

This year, the board of directors in the hospital had planned to replace Brandon as the director. If they saw her crying, they would get the chance.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in," Eartha said after she calmed down.

A nurse came in with a paper bag. "Mrs. Cantu, this is for Mr. Cantu, but I can't find him, so I can only give it to you."

"Okay," said Eartha. "He's having a meeting. Give it to me."

The nurse handed it to Eartha and quietly glanced at her face. Seeing that Eartha’s face didn't change, she felt a little bored and walked out.

Holding the paper bag in her hand, Eartha was nervous. She knew it was a paternity test. She wanted to see it, but she was afraid. Struggling for more than half an hour, she finally decided to open the bag.

"Eartha, why are you here? I've been looking for you." Suddenly, Brandon's voice came from behind. Startled, Eartha put the paternity test on the bed.

She stood up and said expressionlessly, "The police just left. Since you are here, I'll go back first."

"Wait." Brandon grabbed her hand and saw the paternity test report on the bed at a glance. "Since the report is out, I'll open it in front of you. I have to tell you that this little girl has nothing to do..."

When Brandon saw the result, his face turned pale.

Noticing Brandon’s expression, Eartha took a look at the report. It seemed that the result was laughing at her stupidity and her trust.

All of a sudden, Eartha sat on the chair beside the bed. Her face was pale, and she was short of breath.

Brandon threw the report away and stroked her back to comfort her, but he couldn't say anything.

It took a long time for Eartha to recover.

She grabbed the handrail beside the bed, looked at Brandon with seriousness in her eyes, and said word by word, "Brandon, let's divorce."

"No way!"

"I want the children, and I don't want anything else."

"No way." Brandon held the report and said, "It must be wrong. I'll do the test again."

"Brandon..."

Suddenly, Eartha felt someone pulling her sleeve. She turned around and found that Yolanda had woken up.

Yolanda opened her eyes and saw the white ceiling. She grabbed the bed sheet subconsciously, with panic in her heart and vigilance in her eyes.

Where was this place?

Why was she here?

Didn't she find Uncle Brandon?

Yolanda's eyes lit up.

When she lowered her eyes and found that Eartha and Brandon were standing next to her, the uneasiness in her heart disappeared in an instant. She slowly loosened her grip on the bed sheet.

However, she felt that the atmosphere in the ward seemed to be strange.

Did Uncle Brandon have a quarrel with Aunt Eartha?

Yolanda opened her mouth and wanted to say something, but she found that she couldn't speak.

Why couldn't she speak again?

Yolanda tugged at Eartha’s sleeve and pointed at her mouth. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she looked pitiful.

"Don't worry." After a simple examination, Eartha found Yolanda was fine. It was a post-traumatic stress response.

As Yolanda leaned against the bed, she held a pillow that was bigger than her and looked at Brandon with her big eyes.

Brandon was a little annoyed. However, looking at such a cute girl, he didn't bear to say any harsh words. As long as he turned his eyes to Yolanda, she immediately smiled sweetly.

Brandon had gathered up all his courage to speak, but he lost it suddenly. He sat down dejectedly and glanced at the silent Eartha sitting opposite.

Seeing the pain on her face, Brandon felt very sad. He promised not to make her suffer when he married her, but now he had broken his promise.

Clenching his fists, Brandon seemed to be persuading himself not to be influenced by Yolanda's cuteness. He should ask what he should ask and solve the problem.

"Girl, you..." Brandon turned around, not looking at Yolanda.

In this way, he wouldn't be influenced by her eyes.

"Girl, did you find the wrong person?" Brandon said in a soft voice, fearing that Yolanda would be frightened.

Yolanda shook her head. How could she make a mistake? Brandon was her father's brother, and he would take her to find her father.

When Eartha saw that Yolanda shook her head, the only hope in her heart was shattered. It seemed that she had to divorce Brandon.

Thinking of this, Eartha felt pain in her heart.

Hearing Yolanda’s words, Brandon jumped up. He could no longer hold back his temper and shouted, "How could I be your father?"

Yolanda's eyes widened.

What?

She thought, “What’s wrong with Uncle Brandon?”

Yolanda looked at Brandon and Eartha and suddenly figured out everything.

No wonder the atmosphere in the ward was not right. It turned out that they had misunderstood each other.

Yolanda shook her head. She couldn't let the couple misunderstand each other, so she wanted to explain quickly.

"What do you mean by shaking your head?" Brandon asked, "I'm not your father?"

Yolanda shook her head.

Brandon was overjoyed. He held Eartha’s hand and asked her to look at Yolanda. "She is not my daughter. She has admitted it."

Eartha calmly glanced at Brandon, and then sat on the edge of Yolanda's bed and asked softly, "Girl, you are here to look for your father, but he is not your father, right?"

Yolanda nodded.

"Where is your father?" Eartha asked.

Yolanda pointed at Brandon and then stretched out four fingers.

Brandon and Eartha were both confused.

Yolanda thought about how to make it clear to them.

She stretched out four fingers again, grabbed the second one, and pointed at Brandon. Then she pointed at herself with the fourth one.

"The second one is him, and the fourth one is you?" With a frown, Eartha thought she was about to get the answer.

Yolanda nodded and looked at her expectantly.

Suddenly, Eartha turned to look at Brandon as if she could see through him.

Brandon held himself tightly and felt nervous.

Eartha blurted out, "You mean he is the second, and your father is the fourth?"

An idea flashed through Brandon's mind. "Blaine Cantu?"

Yolanda's eyes lit up, and she nodded happily.
