Chapter 24.9: The Storm

Chapter 24.9: The Storm

Sariph snarls, switching his attention to Shado. He responds with four tentacles shooting from his hips. Shado teleports dodging the demonic grip. What followed was such a godsend of an attack by Shado that Cole couldn’t help but gasp in astonishment. Cole watches, remembering his quick bout with Shado before discovering his identity. He had no idea that Shado’s ability was capable of such a courageous feat.

With free reign under the shadow cast by the cloud, Shado releases an unrelenting fury of teleportation attacks. He mimics Sariph’s quick attacks against Growler, but Shado’s attacks are incredibly, viciously faster. Every second Shado gets a couple stabs in before teleporting to a random location on Sariph’s body. Although his attacks have little to no effect on Sariph, it is enough to infuriate him. Shado’s attacks are fast, and increase in speed as he hits his stride. Sariph flails his arms unsuccessfully trying to hit an annoying horse fly. Shado blurs as he teleports up and down the thorned demon body. He jumps with mind-boggling agility using the thorns and horns as leverage for the next attack.

Growler uses this distraction landing a perfectly placed punch mashing Sariph to the ground. Sariph acts as an angered bull howling black mist. Together Shado and Growler tag team Sariph, slowly leading him away from the battlefield. Fortunately for the mountain his time in this game is done. With each punch given, or hit received, his size exponentially decreases.

Sariph, now so enraged by Shado he doesn’t seem to notice Growler falling back. He teleports over and over again attempting to smash Shado. Once far enough away, Shado does something that leaves the onlooking Ultrasapiens shocked and confused. He teleports around Sariph so fast it looks as though each jump is threaded into one another. A blur of Shado’s jumping around the body morphs into black. The final result, an interwoven dimensional rift large enough to pull the sizable demon into it. With not so much as a flash, both Shado and Sariph disappear.

Growler sighs, collapsing to the ground with a bloody splash. His size rapidly decreases down to the size of a normal human body. At first the Ultrasapiens were hesitant to rush to Growler’s aid, unsure if and when the demon would be back. Undeterred, Brody reaches Growler first, landing next to him using his flight ability. Brody examines him. His body has thousands of lacerations, though the blood has coagulated. Burn marks cover his arms. Growler is exhausted on the verge of passing out. He speaks aloud but not to Brody specifically, “Hungry… Tired... But hungry!”

“Alright big guy. We’ll get you something to eat.” replies Brody.

Cole and Rush arrive moments later. Brody helps Growler to his feet. Cole complements, “Growler! Good job big guy! You sure took that demon for a ride!”

Growler replies in a raspy voice, “You make good food. So hungry!”

Cole replies, “I bet you are! The amount of calories you must have burned up.”

“How long until that demon returns?” questions Rush.

“I don’t know, but I don’t want to be around when it does.” says Cole.

Growler starts to walk towards the mountains without a word.

“Where are you going?” asks Cole.

“So tired!”

Unsure where he’s going the men follow along helping him through the blood soaked mud. This moment allows for Cole to take in what the valley has turned into. The forest has been crushed. A whole part of the mountainous range where Growler was now missing. The destruction of the battle is staggering. The storm is slowly dissipating, along with it the blood rain has reduced to a trickle.

Rush questions, “Do you guys see any more Blood Hunters?”

Brody replies, “No, not since that, I don’t even know what to call it… Not since Sariph.”

“Our day isn’t over yet. We need to head to the human’s bunker. Death is there.” says Cole.
