Chapter 8
Aiden dogged as the bird-insect attacked and jumped back.
Bind
The ground lit up as an enchantment circle formed and ropes formed of energy came out and rushed towards the Papillion but missed. It dogged and flew towards the sky, even though they were airborne, they were fast creatures.
‘Tch’
That’s why he hated hunting, exterminations were better. If he wanted, he could incinerate it in seconds but he needed it intact and in perfect condition as much as possible if he wanted to enjoy its meat to its fullest, and he couldn’t randomly throw spells at it because he needed its antennae. He couldn’t afford to misfire and damage its antennae, that was the reason he was here, the meat was just an added benefit. So, his plan was to bind it and end the job as cleanly as possible.
The Papillion was a mix of a butterfly and a bird, it had the body and wings of a bird but a head and six legs of a butterfly with antennae on top of its head. It did have a beak though, a small one.
He was in the southern part of the Nova Forest. And yes, the forest was named after the city, that was where Papillion’s were mostly found and it was hard to find. Lucky for him he found one and was struggling to subdue it so he could make a clean finish. He was here after dropping off Kylan at Arthur’s clinic, he hoped it would go smoothly there as it was not the case for him.
Swirl
A swirl of wind followed the beast and knocked it off its balance as it stumbled in midair.
Sonic
A wave of oscillated sound wave blew towards the staggering monster, as it made contact making it free fall on to the ground.
Bind
Aiden chanted in a hurry and ropes made of energy caught and bound it before it could reach the ground. It would have been disastrous if it fell head first into the ground and damaged its antennae.
‘Ufff’
Kriiiiii
The monster shouted trying to free itself. It was still disoriented from the hit it took earlier.

Aqua blade
The monster stopped making noise as a blade of liquid decapitated his head from its body. The head started to tilt towards the ground.
Will
The head stopped tiling and started to move towards Aiden and reached him. He took it midair and carefully put it in his bag. The bind spell was cancelled and the body now lay on the ground.
‘Yes, Papillion meat.”
Aiden hummed as he put the body in his bag. Now all he had to do was find that chef and convince him to cook for him.
Arthur had the circle of enchantment for diagnosis as he diagnosed Kylan sitting in front of him. He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at him.
“You have not been sleeping have you. Did you not take the potion?”
“I don’t really like them. I always wake up disoriented.”
“You should have said so. There are other alternatives.”
“I didn’t want to bother.”
“It’s my job to be bothered. You would be depriving be of my purpose if you don’t.”
Arthur stopped his diagnosis, “I will tell Aiden to give you something else.”
Kylan remained silent without commenting.
“So, how is living with Aiden.” Arthur asked
How was living with Aiden? He wasn’t sure. Aiden just reminded him so much for some reason. Maybe it was the way he saved him. For a moment he thought he was back. It fumbled his mind then next thing he knew he was following him back to the city. But he was not back and he was in a stranger’s house, a stranger that he knew nothing about. He didn’t mind though; he didn’t care what happened to him. But he wanted to repay his kindness even though it derailed his plans, he wanted to thank them and all he could do was what his friend praised him for that he could do best. When he was cooking, for a moment he forgot who he was making it for. As if the past month was a dream and nothing had changed.
“How? Its ok.” Kylan replied
“That’s good to hear. Ok is good. Mind if I ask you something.”
“Sure.”
“Why did you decide to follow Aiden.”
“He remained me of my friend.”
“Your friend?”
“Yes.”
“Must be a very good friend.”
“Yes.”
“Do you miss him.”
“Yes, very much so.”
“Well, you should go visit him.”
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
“He left.”
Arthur stared at him with a complicated look.
“Well, everyone leaves eventually.”
Kylan stayed silent without responding.
“What about Aiden reminds you of your friend?”
Kylan looked up at Arthur his eyes wavering.
“Actually, I am not sure.”
Why did he remind him of Curtin. He wasn’t sure. Was it because he saved him, just that. Other than that, they were not really similar. Curtin was frank, loud mouthed, did not have a filter and said whatever he wanted. Aiden was reserved was what he could describe him as.
“Well sometimes the opposite also reminds us of people dissimilar to them.” Arthur suggested
“That’s true.”
“You can think of Aiden as your friend.”
“I am not looking to replace my friend.” Kylan cut back uncomfortable.
“I didn’t mean that. Aiden seems to care about you. You can be his friend too.”
“He just doesn’t want a guilty conscious.”
“Maybe, but he went out of his way to ask me to help you in any way I can. So, I hope you can stick around for some time. He has never done this you see. Bring someone back to his house and going out of his way to help them.”
It was quiet unusual Kylan had to admit for someone to do so much for him. But Kylan did not mind. If anything, he was willing to help him in any way he could. No matter the task. He didn’t have much to live for anyway.
