Chapter 5
The streets were busy even after the sun has set. It usually was. People were out for all different reasons, some out to drink after a long day at work, some doing last minute purchase for necessities they might need for supper and some hurrying home to their families. The streets were filled with vendors to entertain night owls, and there were many.
Among the busy street a tall, slander young man in his early 20’s was walking lost in his thoughts. His head slightly lowered as his hair fell slightly above his eyes. His dark hair was a stark contrast to his pale physique and each of his step was steadfast as he walked at his own pace. For some reason even in a busy street people unwittingly made way for him, even though they did not notice. Aiden could not think of his next step as he was lost in his thoughts as he walked back from the Viatores branch. How should he approach a man with a delicate mental frame who wants to exist the world. He was not trained for this, what was he thinking when he decided on this specific course of action to prevent the end of the world and his death. And he was sure it was not as easy as a single line said by someone that changed a person’s perspective that was usually shown in the books he had read in his previous lives, as far as he can recall from his vague memories. How ridiculous is that, one line said with a smile and the you have a whole new person in front of you. This may have been a book he had written but this was also a real life. And he did not know how to go about it.
‘Should I try direct approach.’
And what exactly should he tell him. Mind dying saving the world? That would bring more questions and his answers even if true were ridiculous. Should he size him up for a few days? He was not in a hurry as long Kylan was not in a hurry to die. Should he resolve what he is going through, would that work? But then he would want to live and what use was he if he wants that.
‘God, I am horrible.’

And why did Kylan follow him. He did not reprimand him for saving his life, some would have been angry for saving them, fought back and ran away. But he followed him, without much resistance. Did he want to be saved, he did not care if there a little bit if delay in his exit or was there something to do with Aiden that made him follow him.
Grrrrrrrrrrr
He looked down at his stomach and realized he had skipped lunch. He was hungry, starving. His stomach growled again.
“Grilled Papilion meat” he heard a vendor shout and in front of him was a line of people forming.
‘Papillion meant.’ Aiden perked up as he hurried to stand in line. Someone was selling Papillion meat, it was a monster bird, very big one and was quiet a delicacy when prepared right and it was rare. So, people hurriedly lined up. Papillion meat was eaten directly or as fast as possible while still warm. Once cold it became tough and did not taste good and there was no use re heating. Aiden thought after a long day he was going to go home and relax as he ate his lunch. He did not like eating out, he preferred taking his food home to eat in a relaxed environment. The one selling the meat was quiet famous chef that sold rare dishes in the streets, he hunted them himself.
After waiting sometime Aiden was lucky enough to get his share and all his thoughts and worries disappeared. He carefully put his food in his bag for safe keeping and hurried home.
He unlocked his door excited, all that was going through his head was the Papillion meat so he did not notice that the lights to his house was on and as he entered his kitchen, he stopped dead.
“Kylan, you’re up and you’re cooking.” Kylan was up and in his kitchen cooking, food. Lots of food.
“Yes, I did not take the sleep potion. I took potentia and I felt like cooking.” Kylan said as he stirred the pot. There were already various dishes in the table, and he was still cooking. Did he raid the pantry?
“Arthur told you to rest, you should have rested.”
“I did not want to sleep in the middle of the day. I thought it was better to take in at night when it was time to sleep and I wanted to thank you. Sorry if I am intruding.” The hand that was stirring the pot stopped as it was slowly coming down.
“No. Thank you. I was starving and did not know what to do for dinner and you made a lot. You saved me.” And as if on cue Aiden’s stomach growled. The hand started to stir again and Kylan’s lips curled slightly upward as a slight smile graced his face.
Aiden’s hand reached his bag as he touched it for a moment. Papillion meat, his Papillion meat that he was dreaming of.
‘Goodbye my Papillion meat. Rest in peace. I will miss never tasting you.’
