Chapter 4

“You don’t have any injuries. All was healed already.” Arthur said after his diagnosis. “But you it seems you are going through exhaustion and sleep deprived. You should rest.”

They were in the room Kylan was staying in and Arthur was looking at him.

“Are you having trouble sleeping?” Arthur asked.

“Yes, I have had some trouble sleeping these days.” Kylan was sitting in the bed fidgeting.

“Take some potentia potion to regain some strength and some sleep potion to sleep well. I will see to after three days to see how you are doing. Aiden can give you the potion since he supplies all the potion I have.” Arthur turned to Aiden who was standing by the door as he nodded.

“Well then, I will take my leave. Tell me if anything is wrong.”

“And I’ll go get you the potions.”

Aiden and Arthur both left and Kylan was left alone. He did not know what he was doing here. He was going to end it all. He was supposed to end it all. There was no meaning to anything now. Was he a coward, that’s why he followed Aiden back to his home. He didn’t even know how long he had wandering around in a daze or how he got here, in Nova. He actually travelled to the next town. All he wanted was to get far away from Lannings as possible. He could not accept it and couldn’t listen to anyone anymore. And only one image came every time he closed his eyes. So, he left and just walked and walked and only came to his senses when the guards at the gates stopped him for questioning as they do for any new people entering the city.

Why did he have to save him. He didn’t hate Aiden but he wasn’t grateful either. But he couldn’t refuse him either. He reminded him of them. So much that he couldn’t refuse. How could he refuse. He was not trying to replace them with Aiden but he couldn’t refuse, he could never refuse them.

The knock on the door broke Kylan from his musings. The door opened and Aiden walked in with the potions.

“Here, you should take them and sleep.” Kylan took the potions but made no attempts at drinking them.

“I was thinking of going to the Viatores branch to sell the cockatrice body.”

“Ok.”

“And you can stay here as long as you want don’t worry.”

Kylan looked at him and nodded slowly.

“Take the potions, ok.”

Aiden only left after he heard the reply he wanted

“Ok.”

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Here he was, the adventurer’s guild or the Viatores branch. It served all the purpose of the adventurer’s guild except the Viatores were a lineage, a family, the Parsimor, that were the head of the Viatores organization. They were running this organization since the kingdom of Salvastia established. It was more like they established as a legal functioning organization along with the Salvastia. They were both established at the same time. Before the kingdom of Salvastia was established, it was ruled by Xenders and they had a very tight grip on power, literal power. There are two ways one can gain power, either you are born a mage or a mage helps you unlock your potential to be able to control the aura of the world, the energy of the world. They are called aura masters. Every child during Xenders rule were tested and if it was found they were a mage they were taken away, and only selected people’s potential were unlocked to become aura masters. But the Kanna Parsimor did not like that and she was a mage. She was able to slip past the Xenders radar and unlocked many into aura masters, not because she wanted to rebel but so people can protect themselves from monsters, cause the kingdom did not care. And when the first queen of Salvastia rebelled she joined her. After they won, she did not join the nobility instead she established the Viatores which became an individual entity with an oath from the queen that no one can influence Viatores and was under the full authority of the Parsimor family. And an oath was not just some spoken words, it was unbreakable, as long as the Salvastia kingdom existed the oath remained. It was a declaration to the world, to the god of the world, and if broken the kingdom falls. The oath made at the time of the foundation of the kingdom is the constitution of the kingdom, a declaration of that kingdom made with magic. And now anyone can come and become aura masters as long as they had the potential and the rest of the features were similar to an adventurer’s guild. You can take quest, sell monster parts, herbs and so on and on.

The Viatores building was 4 story tall and was usually one of the most impressive buildings in the city, always a tourist spot. Aiden entered the building and went directly to the left where one can sell monster corpse and entered the room.

“Aiden, what have you brought?” A woman with blonde hair that was tied in a bun asked as soon as she saw him. She was wearing their standard uniform of white shirt and back trouser.

“Hey Lilian, it’s a wingless cockatrice.”

“This is new. And its frozen?”

“Just defrost it.” Aiden rolled his eyes.

“Yes, yes. I am used to it by now.”

“I bring them fresh.” Aiden took out the body and dumped it on the floor.

“Yes, it is fresh. Mili, bring it inside.” Lilian told the girl beside her. Aiden took his card out as Mili took the corpse inside. Lilian took the card and went to her desk to process the sale. “Why are you hunting a wingless cockatrice?”

“I wasn’t hunting it; I stumble upon it.”

“You were in the territory of the cockatrice? Why? Herbs don’t grow there?”

“I was just exploring.” Aiden replied nonchalantly.

“Hmmmm, here you go. I gave you the standard price.”

“Thank you.” Aiden took the card offered. “Have you heard any news from Lannings.”

“Lannings? Ah, you have heard too. Don’t worry its already dead.” What was dead? What was happening in Lannings? He had no idea

“Dead?”

“Yes, the lords forth son killed the jormungar.” Jormungar, the sea monsters. It was a port city.

“It was wreaking a havoc and ships could not pass. It was really strong; they were thinking of asking for help form the capital but the fourth son killed him. Too bad he died too.”

“So, he did not survive the fight.”

“No, he survived but someone killed him for the bounty on the jormungar. Poor boy, guess they didn’t know he was the lord’s son. He went alone to slay the monster, and some greedy bastards killed him.” Lilian seemed visibly distressed. “Good thing the murderer was caught. The aide followed him secretly and saw it all.”

There was a jormungar and he didn’t know. It seems he should start paying attention to his surroundings. Especially since the protagonist of the book has strayed way off the path, things will not be as he once knew, even though the book did not start for another five years.
