53 - The New Genesis Arc: Bandit Beyond Stars

Inside of the city of Sapianus stood Hugo, Altara, and Konstantine. They were all inside of a large hanger which had an open roof, in front of them being a black, sleek ship fit to fly through the open roof. The ship itself had various cannons on it and upon closer inspection had armor plating.

"So you won this from the Eradication Tournament..looks expensive as all hell. You took it out yet?" Altara asked, turning to Hugo.

"Nope, but we're about to." Hugo grinned as a ramp came down from under the ship.

Konstantine folded her arms. "We're..going to space?"

Hugo looked over his shoulder at her, the grin on his face remaining. "Correct!"

The three made their way up the ramp and into the ship, slowly making their way to the cockpit. On the way to the cockpit were two rooms on each side of the ship, one was a storage room and the other a sleeping quarters. There were four seats in the cockpit all lined up facing forwards through the window. Hugo sat in the pilot seat which was the first to the right, Altara and Konstantine sat on each side of him.

As Hugo sat in the pilot seat Altara looked at the controls in front of Hugo. "You know how to fly a ship?" He asked, itching his cheek.

"I sure do. I was taught a while back..that ship was different from this one but I see how this one works." Hugo flicked a few switches as the ship kicked to life. The ramp closed and the ship swiftly kicked upwards. Hugo gripped the wheel of the ship in front of him and aimed the nose upwards. A second later the ship blasted through the open roof of the hanger, shooting out of the city and into the sky.

Konstantine and Altara's eyes widened as the ship shrieked into the sky and soon through the atmosphere of Adepta.

"YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!"

Hugo yelled with excitement and adrenaline as Altara and Konstantine grabbed their seats. The sky started to get darker as they exited the orbit..and entered the vacuum of space. Hugo slowed the spaceship down and slowly turned it so the planet of Adepta took up a quarter of the cockpit's window.

The three sat in silence as they looked down at the planet and the distant stars ahead of them. Konstantine looked down at Adepta and pointed at a patch of green. "Is that.."

"That is Homstala and Altus." Hugo nodded, pointing at a part of Homstala which poked out the top of the country. "The Tower of Magik is within a forest on that point there.

...

Hugo quickly turned to Altara, who had a calm expression..but also had a tear rolling down from his left eye. Hugo's expression didn't change upon seeing this, but on the inside he understood.

"I thought that I knew who I was when I started my studies related to astronomy..there is so much out here to discover. But I had that feeling in my heart that I still didn't know who I truly was..then I found the Oligarchy of Magik. And through that, I discovered who I was. I am Altara Dogma.."

Konstantine and Hugo looked at Altara, who woke up from his trance and looked over at the two. "Sorry.."

"It's okay." Hugo smiled softly. "I understand..you've always wanted to be out here."

"Ever since I was a kid.." Altara mumbled as Hugo started to move the ship to the right, flying slowly away from Adepta.

"Where are we going?" Konstantine asked. "The moons?"

"Heh, nah. I'm just pointing the ship towards them."

Hugo did just that, facing the ship towards the two moons.

"Nuricha.." Altara looked up at the green moon far away from them to the right. "..and Mirallia." He looked to the left at the rocky moon. "If we were to fly to them it would take around six hours to fly to Mirallia and 10 hours to Nuricha in this ship." Altara looked at Hugo, who was looking at Mirallia. "Hugo..you said you were taught to fly. I was wondering by who?"

Hugo looked down at the dashboard of the ship for a second, before sighing, sitting back, and looking up at the stars through the window.

"When I was younger, around ten years ago, I was in a group of people. They loved business and would do anything to get kredits. Well, not anything..they were against some things. But to put it simply they were bandits. Heh.."

Konstantine looked up at Hugo. "Bandits?"

"Yeah..but they weren't a terrible lot. We actually fought against Eternal Chrome in their early stages. Back then they were a lot stronger though. We lost a few of our members thanks to them. When I and Altara fought against them just before we found you I didn't recognize them at first. They changed their whole look..a shadow of their former self some might say. It seems me and Altara finished them off though, heh."

Hugo looked at Altara. "The man who taught me to fly went by Karno. He was a tough bastard..but he taught me how to fly and then appointed me to supply runs. He always called me by my second name instead of my first. Of course I did many other things but we never stooped too low, some of us had kids, lovers, family." Hugo sighed to himself, slumping down in his chair. "Most of them including Karno are dead now, as are the rest of those guys. Thanks to various crimes we were picked off one by one and eventually decided to go our separate ways. During my time with them I slowly developed my ability to manipulate magik, and because of that risen up the ranks pretty quickly since I was the only one to show I had any sort of magikal power, some of them were even scared of me because of it."

He then smiled to himself. "That is when I met Kry who I met in my time of not knowing who I was in life, drifting from place to place. He matured me both as a person and in my abilities which lead to me finding my passion for magik and teaching it. I remember the day I summoned my first battleaxe." Hugo looked at Altara. "Just like you, Alt."

Altara looked into Hugo's eyes for a few seconds before smiling weakly.

"Hm, I'm just glad you were against Eternal Chrome, Hugo." Konstantine mumbled as she itched her neck, Hugo turning to her. "Of course I was!" He responded, Konstantine looking at him. "I know you're not like that anyway, don't worry."

...

The ship's communication then made a ringing noise, Hugo pressing a button on the dash. "Hello?"

"Hugo! We need you back at the tower now! We have a situation here and it isn't looking good!" A female voice shouted through the ship's communication, Hugo instantly grabbed the ship's wheel and turned it towards Adepta, going full speed back down to the planet. "ON MY WAY!"

Altara looked at Hugo, frowning. "Situation!?"

"We'll have to find out! Hold on! I'm landing in the forest!"
