Now, I think it should be about time to get out and explore more of the surroundings.
Even though before I started my 5 days long training I explored a bit of the forest, I still kept within the whereabouts of the cave, as not to lose myself and to avoid some of the most dangerous creatures. But now, armed with my Golem and a few tricks more up my sleeve, I think I’m ready to dare more.
So, golem in tow, I got out of the cave and started moving towards where the sun was raising, so that I could be sure that I won’t lose myself.
After some time walking trough the forest, leaving marks on the trees with a sharpened rock, I heard a strange noise, like someone was talking. I turned towards where the sounds were coming from and started moving stealthy, also gesturing my golem not to do any noise.
After a certain point the forest opened up in a clearing and, not sure if the entities I heard talking were friendly or not, I stopped at the limit of the forest, behind some bushes.
Peeking behind the foliage I saw who it was that produced those sounds. They weren’t humans, though they resembled them... somehow. They had green skin, long pointy ears and were more or less a meter and twenty centimetres high. Also, I could sense their bad smell from here.
Goblins. Or that’s what I would say they were. Maybe they call them in a different way here, who knows? Also, they are usually bad guys in most fantasy novels and games, but what about this world? Maybe they are peaceful here?
What should I do, do I approach them and see how they react or do I use this opportunity to sneak up to them? Mmmh... I thi-
*snap*
Shit, I stepped on a branch, that’s so cliché!
Oh, they’re watching this way, what should I do? Well, now that I’m in this situation I should just go with the flow and try.
Thinking so I stand up, trying to gesture that I’m friendly. But it doesn’t seem to go too well, as-
“Human! KILL!”
-they just charge at me.
As I wouldn’t have space to swing my spear in the bushes I jump out in the clearing. Now that I can analyze their group better I see there are only three of them, two of wich are armed with a big wooden branch, acting as a club, while the other is using a well made spear, obviously not of goblins manufactury as it's clearly too big for him. Also, they are wearing only a dirty rag, which covers
The two with the clubs charge forward, while the one with the spear doesn't move from the spot. He's clearly the boss of this group, but certanly not a good one, as even I can see how bad of a teamwork they have. Let's put an end to this show.
I moved forward, ordering the Golem to follow not far behind me. As our parties near each other the goblins jump at the same time, also bumping in each other mid-air. They don't even have the time to land though, as I step back and my golem comes in, swinging his arms at them and sending them flying.
After that they fall on the ground heavily and, without even letting them stand up I charge at them, stabbing one with my spear. The other one tries to hit me with his club, but I dodge and my golem comes from behind me, crushing the goblins head with his fist.
The last one, seeing his comrades dying in less than a minute starts running, but I throw my spear at him, piercing his throat and killing it.

*uff* That was a match. Though it didn't feel like I was risking my life. Oh well, I better do what I have to.
Thinking so, I concentrate on the goblin boss, now lying on the ground dead, focusing on his life essence and moving out of his body. After emptying him of his essence, I concentrate to form another Core, like the one my golem has. After a couple seconds a pebble forms where I concentrated the soul essence.
Strange. This one seems bigger than the previous one. Well, doesn’t matter for now.
I proceed on doing the same with the other two goblins, but after finishing the first one I notice that there is no more essence on the body of the last one. As I though. This is why I couldn’t take essence from the rabbits I had already hunted before, because too much time passed from when I killed them. It’s always good to learn something new.
“Also, I’ll take this.”
Saying so I leave my handmade spear for the one the Goblin Captain had with him.
We* proceed on with the exploration without encountering any other threats, or wildlife in general. The air starts to get a little heavy and I start feeling the tension seeping trough my bones. Even so we don’t stop moving, but then we are stopped in our tracks by a terrifying howl that shakes the forest.

*The golem, remember? Just so that you don’t forget about him as I’m not really leaving much space to the Golem part for this story, which should be one of the main topics, but oh well…
Also, here’s their stats after the battle. I know that I shouldn’t put this at every end of a chapter, but for now I’ll continue like this, as later in the story you won’t see these any more. It’s not spoiler, I just won’t care about the stats and I’ll focus more on the story.
