chapter 7

The day after our encounter with the mysterious horseman we logged back in.

We all agreed to continue walking along the tunnel. The reason was rather simple… the horseman was on the way back.

Hours passed and no mob appeared, we continued our journey in silence.

Soon we reached the other end of the tunnel. It had led to a huge lake and an island in the middle of it.

Discovered The forgotten kingdom of Lothlórien.

Xp from quests doubled for two weeks.

On the island a castle-like structure could be seen. The castle from afar looked old and severely damaged yet it had a mysterious and serene look as if it came out of a fairytale look.

Three wooden bridges lead to the island from different directions; we walked towards the closest one.

As we neared the half of the bridge we saw that it was broken, the other bridges looked unusable as well. I was about to use wings of light when I saw Merl running around and touching some wooden planks and boulders.

He started to move his hands like he did when he fought.

The pieces he had touched started to move and formed a path for us.

Merl turned towards me and Pandora.

“We got an hour until I run out of mana so let’s get going.” He said as he hurried to jump from one boulder to another. We followed him.

“Why did you not use this when you were falling down the hole?” Pandora asked him about the question that had been in my head ever since I saw him move the boulders.

“Moving things requires me to touch the object beforehand and I need a lot of concentration… and I couldn’t concentrate while falling.”

“Oh… anyway what’s your class?” Pandora asked him, another question that had been bothering me.

“I’m a puppeteer.”

“Why don’t you have a puppet?”

“I don’t need it right now.”

We reached the island, the stench of death was everywhere, and lifeless people covered the ground.

No guards protected the gate so we entered carefully avoiding the bodies surrounding us.

Inside the castle wounded people lay down and those with no physical wounds had fear in their eyes and their bodies shook.

One of the men approached, he was similar to an elf, the only difference was his ears, and they pointed downwards and had a feathery structure.

“I am Rorimmarth, who are you and what brings you here outsiders?” he asked us.

Tooltips appeared before me.

Gain favor of the dream elves:

-The dream Elves greet each other by slightly bowing their heads.

-They dislike it when people stare at their ears.

I bowed my head a little.

“I am called Alcaeus. My friends and I seek a place to stay.”

“Are you the ones who slew the undying worm?”

“Yes, it is us who killed the death worm.”

“Then come, you must rest.”

He led us to an inn close by.

“I am afraid you have visited us in a most unfortunate time.” The elf said “For we have been under the attack of a terrible monster.”

“You speak of a horseman, do you not?”

Rorimmarth was surprised.

“I do, the light stone protecting our kingdom has lost its power and we were vulnerable to attack. Our people have suffered great losses from Death’s attack.”

“But you caused the horseman to retreat, you came out victorious.”

“No we did not, the moment the undying worm died the horseman left… unharmed.

You may stay the night but we cannot help you in any other way as we are still recovering from the attack, and with the light stone gone, more assaults are to follow. We are running low on provisions and can hardly feed our own.”

“Maybe we can help…” I told Rorimmarth after I found a pot in the room.

“Fire burned the place to ground,

Not a single tree was found.

Once a beautiful lively land,

Now a valley filled with sand.

Time passed, years gone by,

I could not believe my eye.

For in the barren empty ground,

A growing sapling is what I found. “

A tree spurted from the pot and soon bore fruit.

Rorimmarth was surprised.

“I’d be most grateful if you did.” He thanked me.

He told us that we should help the people outside.

Merl and Pandora left to look for quests, I was about to follow them when Rorimmarth stopped me.

“I have a request I wish to ask of you.” He told me.

The way he talked started to get a little tiring.

“What is it you ask of me?”

“After the light crystal lost its brightness our crops and trees withered. I ask of you to help us grow them using your skills, at least until we find a permanent solution to this problem.”

Quest: Lothlórien food supply

Produce enough food to last for two months.

Difficulty: E

Rewards: Affinity with the dream elves.

He handed me some seeds.

An old woman came in and guided me towards the fields, now barren.

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

I spend two days growing crops and trees and only stopped to eat and refill my stamina.

At first it was fun but soon it became boring and tiring as each use of the skill required me to speak the words out loud.

After two tiring days, the old woman who had brought me here told me that the food produced was enough and that I could return to Rorimmarth.

While I was walking back, I saw Pandora bandaging and healing the sick and wounded; a little further Merl was clearing the castle using his “makethingsfloat” skill.

I left them be and returned to the inn.

“Greetings Alcaeus, I heard you have done a most wonderful job in the fields.”

“I am just happy to have found a way to help you.” ~I was not happy, I was bored, tired and ready to kick someone where it hurts the most~

“I am thankful for your reward, it too much for doing so little.” ~Two days!! My throat hurts!!~

Very disappointed I began to leave.

“Wait Alcaeus, I told the village elder of what you can do and he wishes to see you.” He told me.

“It would be my honor to meet him.”

I did not get my hopes up.

Rorimmarth led me to the village elder. After we finished the formalities, we got on to the real subject.

“I have heard of you… word-weavers; they say many things about you.” The village elder spoke slowly.

“They say you can grow trees on barren land, make it rain on the hottest day, and do miracles with words alone.”

“And how do you know of this wise elder?”

“This is a game, I just know!” I looked at him surprised, what did he say?

“Wait how did…?”

The old man burst into laughter that turned into a cough.

“It was naught but a joke… youngsters these days; I know of your class because one of my forefathers was one.”

“I see, and why did you ask to see me?”

“I request your help word-weaver.”

The elder reached for a chest. From it he took out a piece of paper. He handed it to me.

“This is a family treasure, young one; it is my great grandfather’s legacy… his last words are inscribed in this piece of paper.”

Item received:

The lost light

“I am sure it is of much more worth to you than it is to me. I cannot accept it.”

“But it is something you must have in order to return light to the stone in the ceiling of this kingdom.”

The lost light

The light stone protecting Lothlórien had lost its power. Bring back its light by reciting the poem while touching the stone.

Difficulty: class quest

Rewards: unknown, affinity with the Dream elves.

Restrictions: Cannot deny.

Cannot use other skills.

After I got the elder’s request I left. The light stone they spoke about was located in the ceiling of the underground castle. The elder had told me that in order to get to the ceiling I had to climb the endless stairs in the central square of the kingdom. With Rorimmarth as my guide I reached the stairs.

I started to go up.

In two hours I was halfway there.

In my tired state it took me another four hours to reach the top.

I decided to have a break. I sat down and took out the piece of paper given to me before.

I unfolded it, another fold magically appeared, I unfolded it again and again after that, soon the small piece of paper had turned into a long sheet filled with size 6 words that I could hardly read.

These quests just had a way to become harder.

I reached for the stone located over me and started to read the text.

It did not work. I tried again and nothing happened.

I tried one last time.

“This castle deep down below

Needs your brightness and your glow

Protect the kingdom from evil’s hate

Don’t lose your light, don’t you dare fade.”

From the depths of the crystal a flickering light appeared, it slowly grew brighter and brighter, It became blinding yet I could not move my eyes from it.
