chapter 4

~Now go… you are needed. ~ A voice with no origin was whispered into my ear.

I turned towards the tunnel that led to the outside of the lair, my steps slow as my brain tried to remember those images that flashed before me when Ethel disappeared.

From afar light could be seen followed by noise.

“Attack from the left!” a man yelled.

“Light bolt!”

“Don’t let her get away!”

-clang! Clang!

“Heal me!”

Alerted by the sounds, I rushed towards the exit, although my recovery was not complete, I was ready for battle.

The bright light blinded me… then the view became clearer.

What I saw was Pandora fighting against four people, her health and stamina low.

With no more than 30% of HP left she continued to attack fiercely.

I started to run towards her, the distance between us was great, the possibility of not reaching her in time frightened me, I could only watch as I continued to sprint.

Pandora was cornered by two warriors, behind her a pitch black hole, she jumped high over both warriors and danced in the air like the wind.

Her feet touched the ground in front of a woman who looked like a priestess. In a blink two swords were plunged into the priestess’ heart and stomach, her health bar disappeared and body turned grey.

As soon as Pandora was done, she headed towards the other priestess only for her blades to be stopped by the warriors.

The priestess used some kind of curse.

Pandora’s speed plummeted.

With the advantage in speed gone, she was slowly pushed back towards the hole, again she was cornered.

Pandora tried to jump. But with her agility low, the warriors could follow her movement and as soon as her feet left the ground, a shield bashed into her and knocked her back, Pandora coughed, blood flowed from her mouth.

Still in the air with a back flip she regained her composure. Her legs crouched ready to leap towards the priestess the moment she landed, but there was nothing to support her below. With a high pitched scream she fell and disappeared in the darkness of the hole.

I neared the battlefield with my PenSword I slashed through the three of them, I knew I could not kill them because of the archangel’s feather’s effect but that was not my goal right now. With all the strength I could muster I jumped down the black pit.

“Damn! We could have gotten so much fame if we killed her.”

“Then why don’t we follow them?”

“Are you crazy? A friend of mine jumped down and it took him 30 minutes to reach the end, and after that he died from the fall.”

“Creda can you heal both of us at the same time, we need more wolf pelts for the quest?”

“As long as we don’t fight more than six wolves at the same time… and I get half of the loot.” The priestess said with a smile while reading a system message she just got.

*Crap… it was that Guy.* Creda thought as she stroked her long blonde hair.

I can’t see her, I’m falling… a scream is the only thing telling me Pandora is below me.

A reaching hand enters my field of vision. I grab it.

I find myself face to face with Pandora, she’s scared… I am too.

“Alone I come here

Powerless and in fear…

The thought of falling from such height, made me believe we would truly die.

It was nothing like a game… the fall was real.

… I call for your might…

The bottom of the pit was visible. In less than ten seconds our bodies would be bashed into the hard stone floor.

…Come to me, wings of light!

-Mana bar 92%

The distance between us and the ground… three meters.

Wings of light embraced us.

With all my strength I tried to counter the velocity of our fall.

Our skulls were about to kiss the floor. Our direction changed.

We were falling diagonally with me on the bottom and her on top of me.

-CRASH!

-1000 HP

I lost most of my health… I was in pain; it felt as if the skin behind me had been forcefully ripped off… but I was alive, and so was Pandora whose HP had already been low from her previous fight.

I tried to get up but I couldn’t. Not because my legs were injured.

When I looked at my feet they were shaking, I was unable to stop them.

I raised my head to look at Pandora. The fear in her eyes had disappeared and was replaced by awe as she looked at the light wings still on my back.

Our eyes met with a silent agreement; we needed rest and decided to log off.

The capsule head slowly opened, I got up.

The thrill from the game had followed me here; my body, filled with goose bumps, shivered from the somewhat familiar experience.

A rumbling sound echoed; it was my stomach’s doing.

I walked to the fridge still thinking about the events that happened in the game.

I looked inside the fridge filled with frozen and instant meals.

After ten minutes of examining each box, I decided to eat lasagna.

As I watched it melt inside the microwave I remembered the time when I lived with my parents.

They had asked me to move back in after the accident… needless to say I declined.

*trring * (quest complete ^^)

The food was ready. It was almost as good as the stew Pandora prepared in RR.

While eating the two portions alone, I could not stop thinking how I was still so thin.

With my stomach full, I headed to the bedroom and fell on my bed.

I found myself over a blanket covered in bandages from neck to toe.

-Max health increased by 400 for a week

-health regen increased by 30% for two days

I knew of the first-aid skill, but this was something else.

Pandora stood in front of me, the ruby on her forehead and the red name over her gone.

“Alcaeus, follow me.”

Her hand grabbed mine and I followed.

“Where are we going?”

“You’ll see in a minute.”

She led me towards a bright tunnel that was the only source of light in the big dome we were in.

Soon I found myself in a cave.

The walls radiated warmth and light revealing different colors such as blue and green. The rocks below reflected that light on their own image in the lake below, the lake motionless and clear as day.

The view left me speechless. We stood still with worry that a single movement would disrupt the peacefulness in front of us.

You have seen and understood the beauty of The glow stone Cave
