There we stood, against a humongous horned wolf with saber-shaped canine teeth that made bears look like children; it was dignified and scary all at once.
Up until now I’d fought against rabbits, foxes and wolves, creatures I knew of, read of, or seen with my very own eyes.
For the first time, since I started playing this game I felt excitement and fear from the unknown.
“Not to kill but to protect
Grant me the power and will
Make a hard iron sword,
from my soft and feathery quill.”
Both of us rushed at it from different sides, it turned towards Pandora, considering her a bigger threat. *Why?!*
Using her magnificent swordsmanship, she made several deep cuts on its skin.
Enraged the ETHEL WOLF opened its mouth, ready to bite off Pandora’s arm.
“Paralyze”
I wrote over it using the PenSword, while it could stop the movement of other wolves for up to ten seconds, the ETHEL WOLF was only stunned long enough for Pandora to get away from its huge mouth.
Now wary of us, the boss monster got serious.
With its giant sharp claw it slashed deep into Pandora, a single swing was enough to destroy the shield I had put on her beforehand as well as reduce her Hp by 1/5.
I had run out of ink, I could no longer use commands to aid her.
*think, think, think!*
In one swift stab to my hand with my PenSword I filled the quill with blood.
*trring.* Skill learnt
Signed in Blood beginner level 1:
Using blood as ink you increase the power of your words by infusing life force into them.
2x skill effect +0.1x/ SiB level.
1/2 mana needed per skill when using blood.
Using the blood of powerful creatures will further increase effect.
I looked up to see Pandora, fighting the monster, each striking the other with ferocity, but the wolf had something more; its tremendous HP bar would slightly decrease with each hit, whereas her bar was reduced by a fifth after each slash and was now down to 40%
“Paralyze”
“Heal”
“Shield”
“Heal”
I used four commands consecutively with their effect doubled, stunned the wolf for five seconds,
Healed 50% of Pandora’s Hp and shielded her from the next two attacks.
With the boss still stunned I jumped on its head and held my PenSword over its eyes.
“Scorch”
-Critical hit
-Accuracy reduced by 40%
-The creature is angry
-attack increased by 25%
I managed to burn its left eye before it threw me away.
-400 HP
Although its attack increased a lot, due to the drop in accuracy, it was fairly easy for Pandora to dodge each of its attacks.
The monster started to screech in pain, my ears hurt.
With its health now at 1/3 the Ethel wolf entered a state of frenzy.
Until now Pandora had been its main target, this time however it started to attack me.
I stood there, I did move at all, as its big mouth was about to encircle my head, I stepped to the right.
“Scorch”
It’s right eye burst into flames.
-Critical hit
-Ethel is blind
-The wolf now relies on its sense of smell and hearing.
-accuracy back to 100%. Unable to perform critical hits.
While the wolf was attacking me, it forgot the battle was 1vs2.
From behind Pandora jumped with a back flip, high enough for her feet to touch the ceiling.
She crouched, using all her strength and pushed against the ceiling.
I could see her from afar, yet the wolf didn’t.
With a twist she jumped towards Ethel in a circular motion, both her swords attached together forming a drill.
In less than a second a human sized hole could be seen on the monstrous wolf’s back, blood gushed out and slowly covered the whole room in a thick layer of red.
The wolf’s health dropped down to dangerous levels.
What was left of her Hp bar, continued to drop from the fire and the bleeding caused by the wound.
It gave up, no longer had the desire to fight, it lay on the ground.

From hiding came out a wolf whelp and neared the dying Ethel. It started to howl, sadness took the form of sound, both Pandora and I were left speechless, we had killed his mother.
With a trembling voice I spoke what came to my mind.
“All your life you have lived free
Your howl shaking every tree
Now down to your last breath
Knocking on your door, death
Is it death that you fear?
Knowing that you’ll disappear.
If so then rise from the ground
Break the chains that have you bound.
Come back to earth, don’t you dare flee
Don’t see the light, come back to me.”

Miracle!
Due to your high faith and certain circumstances, a miracle has happened.
ETHEL WOLF has been revived.
As soon as I saw the wolf-mother rise, I gave a signal to Pandora to leave.
As we were doing so the hall in front of us collapsed, but it was not an accident.
“Please do not leave so soon, at least not before I thank you for what you have done.” The wolf in front of us said.
Both Pandora and I were shocked.
“yo… you can talk?!” Pandora asked as she got into a confused state.
“I have long since known human speech.”
“Can wolves do that?” was the following question.
“Perhaps not, but my whelp and I are no mere wolves.” She replied proudly. “For we belong to the royal demon wolf tribe.”
*pfft wolf royalty *
“As I said, before you leave I wish to thank you for sparing my life and ask you a favor as well.”
“What might that favor be noble wolf?”
“I ask of you to take my only son on your travels, so that he can grow into a fine wolf-king.”
A small miniature wolf came towards me and I held him, despite the horns and teeth, he was cute.
*Trring*
Train the future wolf-king
The noble wolf Ethel has asked you to train her son so that he can one day rule over the wolves.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
Rewards: unknown
“I am sorry but I am nothing more than a writer and not fit to train your son so I have to refuse.” I said as I handed the adorable pup to Pandora.
“I’d be glad to help you!” Pandora accepted her request mesmerized by the cuteness of the baby wolf.
Earth shook and the corridor that was closed reopened once again. And we started to leave.
“Wait young writer, I wish to speak with you in private”
“I’ll wait for you outside” said Pandora.
-Pandora added you to her friends list accept?
“Yes” I accepted as she left.
“What do you want to talk about noble wolf?”
“I wish to have a duel with you, writer.”
“Your wish is my command” I said and bowed to the royal demon wolf, confused from the strange request.
I knew her strengths and she knew mine, chills went down my spine.
“Alone I come here
Powerless and in fear
Not to protect but to kill
With Darkness to fight
And wrongs to make right
Grant me the power and will
Make a hard iron sword
I call for your might
From my soft and feathery quill
Come to me, wings of light.” (Think of it as two people reciting different poems at the same time)
The mighty demon wolf attacks.
With the increase in speed from the wings of light, I managed to keep up with her.
With the swiftness of the wind her mouth reached for my leg… I dodged by a hairs thread, and at light speed I wrote over her head.
“Scorch”
As soon as Ethel saw me write, she jumped out.
The ground caught fire.
I now knew I was fighting with an intelligent being, one who understood human speech, one who unlike my other foes, could think.
I was immersed in battle.
“You run towards me!
Your claw rises ready to strike me.
With my sword I parry your attack and at full strength
I plunge my sword through your arm
You growl in anger!
Your other claw, ready to strike!
Retreating backwards; I slip.” I continued to describe every piece of detail from our battle.
“Your arm comes down to cut me in half,
With no way to parry or dodge I stop moving,
You… … Miss”
The demon wolf in front of me slips, she missed. While listening to me she had gotten distracted and was no longer in control of her body, taking my words in, believing them, obeying them.
Skill learnt:
Deception beginner level 1- Passive
Using your words in battle you are able to fool your enemy.
+3%chance of monsters believing your words to be true. +0.4% per level.
Chances increase/decrease depending on circumstances, words, intelligence and charisma.
For the first time in her life, she had been controlled; it made the demon wolf furious.
She regained her senses, looking at me with blood red eyes she attacked.
“You dare control me?!” she howled.
She ran towards me ready to bite my head off with her jaws wide open.
“Shield” I yelled.
“That shield cannot save you!” she added with her mouth still agape, her throat still visible.
.

.
Her mouth burst in flames.
-critical hit
-strength reduced by 20%
-speed reduced by 20%
-Unable to use skill “bite”
“What is the meaning of this? How?” the wolf queen was taken by surprise her throat now enveloped in flames.
“Words are a powerful weapon indeed; they can influence you without you even knowing.
Say for example, you knew my shield was active yet you believed my words, and bothered not to see what I actually wrote.” A grin covered my face knowing that the seed of doubt was planted inside her.
“What you say is true, but once you know that, you are no longer affected by them. Telling me was your one mistake until now.” The wolf said after regaining her composure.
“You leap towards me, ready to crush me with your paws
I step aside.
A chance! Your head no more than one meter away from my sword.
I strike your eye with my sword.”
She jumped up and stood on two legs, she protected her head.
-critical hit
-You have struck the wolf’s heart severely damaging it.
-all stats reduced by 20%
As soon as she’d jumped with her front legs I’d thrust my sword deep into her chest.
Deception level up.
The demon wolf retreated, she coughed up blood.
Tension rose in the air.
A dark red aura surrounded the demon wolf.
Her eyes’ pupils disappeared and her teeth clenched.
The Ethel Wolf had now lost reason and could no longer hear me.
And so just like the beast in front of me, I decided to give into my instincts.

***********************
The demon wolf stood in front of me, most of its body burnt, words carved into its skin.
Her breath was heavy, but she still stood. I, on the other hand had fallen to my knees, my health down to less than a hundred and my mana completely gone.
Neither of us moved a millimeter.
“You are terrifying… for a simple writer.” The beast calmly spoke.
“I can say the same, were you only playing with us before?”
I asked the powerful beast whose health had stayed at 100% since the time when the back aura had enveloped her.

“Why did you give your child to us? You are more than capable of raising him.”
“You see, writer, my time is nearing its end, I will soon cease to exist.” Her expression changed.
“So what was the duel for? My friend already accepted your request.”
“I wanted to test your skill of course. Your individual skill.”
“Why?”
“To give you this” Ethel said as her body disappeared in the form of blue-ish air which then blasted into me.
Visions appeared before me, blurry pictures were engraved into my mind.
-You have received: memories of the ancient demon wolf queen.
