chapter 5

“We can’t stay here forever; let’s return to the dome and explore the other tunnel.”

“Okay.” I replied to Pandora as I noticed some kind of whirlpool behind the red rocks. I decided to ignore it for now.

Soon we reached the exit of the cave. Wanting to leave the narrow tunnel, I hurried towards the dome.

A hand grabbed me from behind and pulled me back fast enough for me to see a round giant mouth where my body had been a second ago.

“Thanks… how did you know that thing was there?”

“I have a skill which helps me sense fighting spirit of monsters before battle.”

After a closer look at the dome, we noticed that the once empty place was now infested with huge worm –like creatures, dozens of them roamed around aimlessly.

“They’re disgusting…” Pandora said.

“Well you don’t have to fight them if you don’t want to.” I shrugged.

“No, I’ll annihilate them all… it’s payback time.”

As soon as we noticed one of the mobs separate from the others, we attacked.

Before it could notice us, Pandora’s blade was about to cut it in half.

I remembered.

“Stop! Don’t do it.” I yelled but her blade had already slashed the worm.

Boss battle: Mongolian death worm.

Although no different than other death worms in appearance, the Mongolian death worm has the ability to regenerate almost indefinitely and no known way of killing it exists.

She turned towards me.

“Why? It’s dead isn’t it?” She said and failed to notice the two rising figures behind her.

With no time to explain I ran in her direction.

Both worms attacked, with my PenSword I stopped the sharp teeth of one of them while the other bashed into me but did little damage(compared to the other one )since it did not have teeth.

-600 HP

The headless worm tried to attack me again, it rose as high as a tree and was about to slam into me.

My blade stuck in the others mouth, I could only watch as the huge worm fell like a log.

-slash

Pandora split it in half only to regret the decision immediately.

Like the first time the two bodies started to squiggle and soon rose, we lost the advantage, the worms now outnumbered us.

She panicked.

“How do we kill them?!”

“Just stab them until they run out of health…” I told her with no actual proof that it might work, after all the monster, unlike any enemy until now, did not have a HP bar.

The battle went on for more than an hour and we were getting tired and our health was not looking good either.

Since then, due to the carelessness of a certain someone, the three worms had become sixteen.

Although we were severely outnumbered, somehow the battle did not get harder; the small worms had a hard time attacking and had lost their flexibility … but they were still alive and slowly grew bigger.

“Let’s cut them until they can’t move.” We both said in unison.

And so we did.

Soon the battlefield was filled with thin meat slices scattered everywhere.

Blood dripped from my clothes, it was not mine.

We had cut through each ring in its body and each ring alone could only wiggle.

But they were still alive and they slowly grew in thickness.

It was then that I noticed something each segment had… a beating heart.

I sent my blade through it and the piece of meat stopped squirming.

“Pierce their hearts before they regenerate.”

.

We repeated the process more than 300 times until only one was left, its head.

My legs were shaking as I neared the head, and with the strength I had left in me I gave the finishing blow.

You have killed the undying Mongolian death worm.

The legendary Mongolian death worm, thought to be immortal is dead.

Fame +200.

-level up x 10

The simple worm we had battled turned out to be a boss monster and one that severely out leveled us as well.

I saw Pandora going through the pile of meat gathering drops as she did after every battle and sat down waiting for her to finish.

As soon as I read the sign I noticed my bag got a lot heavier.

I saw Pandora’s disappointed look.

“Too bad it didn’t drop anything.”

I quickly changed the setting to 4 making it so I only took half the items (and all the equipment).

“We need help; we can’t kill all the worms here by ourselves.”

“You’re right… it would take a lifetime to do so.”

“Then go up and find someone in the city.”

“But the mobs here will slaughter you if you’re alone.”

“They won’t, I noticed that none of them go to the cave… it must be a safe area”

“Okay then.”

“Alone I come here

Powerless and in fear

With Darkness to fight

And wrongs to make right

I call for your might

Come to me, wings of light.”

**********

A mage, a priest and a knight planned on attacking the wolves’ den.

As they neared the dungeon a winged creature flew out of the dark hole close by, the light creature disappeared before they could have a look at it.

“Maybe it’s an even or something.”

“Let’s jump down.”

“But we’ll die.”

“Come on, maybe they started the rumor that you die because they wanted to keep it a secret.”

After they agreed to do it… they jumped.

-30 minutes later

You are dead.

*******************

The time limit of Wing of light was over before I could reach the city. I would need a few more hours to get there if I walked.

Soon I was walking through the field filled with rabbits and foxes.

I remembered my first battle with a rabbit.

As soon as one of the hares came close to me I stabbed it with my quill.

It died… I was surprised. I needed to look at the feather.

Archangel’s feather. Durability-indestructible dmg 15 (ego item)

The feather of Michael. A.K.A. one of Freya’s three artifacts.

Its properties had changed and damage had increased.

After checking the item I strode towards the city gates.

The city was as lively as ever, people were forming parties and merchants had filled the street with stalls.

Seeing as how both Pandora and I preferred close combat, our other member should either be a mage or an archer.

My eyes started to study each and everyone present, each looked stronger than the other, yet my gaze was stuck on a dark hooded player who had sat down and was reading a book.

From his equipment you could see that he was strong and high-leveled.

I got close to him.

“Hello.”

“…”

“Would you like to join me and my friend in a dungeon?

The hooded boy slowly raised his head with animosity.

“Leav…”

The moment he looked at me, he closed his mouth… he smiled.

“Yes.”
