Chapter 10: Faked Alibi and Real Friendship

Chapter 10: Faked Alibi and Real Friendship

There was a knock on my door.

It's seven in the morning.

I look through the eye hole to see who decided to mess with a sleepy Cameron. I'm extremely grumpy around the time I wake up.

It was Leon. I could see him smiling like an idiot. I wonder what's got him so excited and impatient that he decided to come visit me so early in the morning. I unlock the door and let him in. I yawned as I walked towards the living room.

My back almost split in half. Leon smacked me with the strength of two bigfoots.

"What's wrong with you?" I raved, trying to rub the pain away.

He held his stomach in laughter which turned into a bellow. He slapped his knees. "Hey! You should've told me about it!"

"What?!"

He wipes off a tear as he tried to gain back his composure, "Your Alibi! No matter how embarrassing it is, it's still a solid alibi!"

I blink at him, "I don't have a clue what you're talking about."

He walked towards my couch and plopped down, "Someone said they saw you entering a hotel so I checked the cameras and captured you entering at 9:34 and leaving at 11:57 this gap proves your innocence." He explains and leans back with his arms on the pillows.

What in the world is he talking about? I've never been such hotels.

"Who said? I didn't do anything like that. I slept at home the whole night."

He snorted, "Yeah right."

He's unintentionally gaslighting me. Do I sleep walk or something? I stayed home last night. I've never even been to a such a hotel before. Is he trying to fake me an alibi?

"What? Are you fibricating me an alibi?" I crossed my arms with a smirk.

"Alright. I got you. I got you." He prevaricated then sent me a wink with the smuggest grin on his face before he guffawed.

He thinks he's in a detective novel or something. You can't easily get away with faking stuff in the real world. I don't know how to feel about this. To have a friend who's ready to risk his job and even going to jail for you; that's something I'd always thought would never happen in real life. I've never had any loyal friends. The ones I were loyal to never paid me back; They sometimes betrayed me instead. But if he's caught, I don't want to be the reason he loses so much. He's such a stupid nut. I plopped down next to him and Oreo jumped on my lap; I petted her.

Leon rubbed his earlobe. "You know if we didn't find your alibi you were probably gonna be taken into custody again. Cain is so desperate to jail you that he thought of fabricating evidence against you. Now he can't even get a search warrant against you"

Well this Cain guy doesn't have an ounce of conscience so I wouldn't put it past him.

I punched his shoulder and send him a small beam, "Thanks man."

Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more.

He returned a smile, "For what? I only did what I'm supposed to do."

"Learn to accept a sincere thank you." I chided him. He does so much for me but I've barely done anything in return. The least I could do is thank him.

He chuckles, "You say thanks a lot I don't know when it's a sincere or courteous one."

I wave my hand in the air, "Forget it. By the way, Do you think he'll follow the book exactly or put his own twist next time? I mean some of the cases in my book are hard to come-by in real life." I pondered, my finger twirled on my temple.

"I think he'll probably continue killing until we catch him through the codes. I really don't understand his motives or if he's just a senseless serial killer that wants to be a vigilante. Well it can't be considered the work of a serial killer yet, not until a third victim appears having died by the same motus opprandi. I mean the first victim deserved to die anyway but we can't have a serial killer lose like that we can't be sure if he'll only target bad people."

I grab the hair brush off my coffee table and tried to fix Oreos fur. "He doesn't seem like he wants to frame me yet. He just seems like he wants to outsmart me or something of sorts."

"He probably has an obsession with your detective in the novel and wants to see if he can trick you or not." Leon grabs the TV controller and turned it on.

"He's taking it too far. Now people are gonna blame writers like me but it's really the fault of this maniac."

He shuffled through the channels in the speed of lightning, I don't even know if he has time to choose something he likes when he does that.

"I mean if that's how it works then every mystery writer or even the readers must have murdered at least one person at some point." he shrugged as he continued to switch the channels. "Oh." he pointed at me with the remote control. "If he decides to come to your house and drop off another card then he's screwed. Cain ordered a bunch of CCTV cameras to be placed around your house."

I shake my head and rolled my eyes. "I mean he's invading my privacy but if that's what it takes to prove my innocence then so be it."

"Hey do you have a pain reliever? I have a killer headache right now." Leon asked. He had his hand on the top of his head.

"It's in the medicine cabinet on the second row to the right."

He grabs a cup of water and heads to get the medicine.

This is the second time he asks me for pain reliever. He never used to get headaches like this. He must be really stressed these past months if he keeps getting such strong headaches.

I spent the whole day watching TV. In what felt like minutes, I look outside and the sun was already going down in a sea of red, purple and yellow hues. These colours reminded me of the blood pool decorated by the yellow and purple flowers. I shake the image out of my head and opened my PlayStation.

We played until midnight before Leon decided to go back home.

I opened the medicine cabinet and took a sleeping pill. It seems like every was shifted around. I told him exactly where the pill he wanted was but he had to go and mix everything up.

I gulped down some water until the uncomfy scratchy feeling in my throat subsided.

Oreo started scratching on the back door. Every time their is a nice breeze outside she demands to sleep in her dog house in the backyard. I let her out and locked the back door.

I slump into my bed and sleep overtook me in a matter of seconds.

----------------------------------------

Eyes followed me.

Eyes that where just a void of darkness; Like a blackhole, they sucked you into the abyss of despair. The owner of the eyes came closer to me but only the eyes where visible. The rest of the face was blurry but I could make out a sneer with vampire-like teeth. It turned into a smirk then that turned into wicked laughter.

I started running away and found myself in the middle of a forest. Suddenly, the figure was in front of me. I turn on my heels as fast as I could and almost slipped on the muddy ground covered in withered leaves. The figure teleported in front of me again. No matter what direction I headed it always found a away to block me. The beat of my heart against my rib cage was so strong it felt like I had a drum in my thorax. I grabbed a rock and hurled it was all the strength I could muster in my arms but it just went through the figures.

I kept running and running. Nothing. Nothing would work to get rid of this monster. Those voids that threatened to steal the light from my eyes.

I realized one thing as I was running.

I need to face it. That's the only way I could escape this horror.
