Volume 1, The City of Anubis

The city of gold was alone, long forgotten by it’s people but still it shone with golden light. Ancient buildings filled it as tall as skyscrapers all covered in crawling vines, roads paved with gold and statues of gods. Gods, none of which man worshipped anymore. No, these were the Gods of people long dead, they were the ancient gods of Egypt. At the center of the city lay a statue that dwarfed all others. A colossal image of the god of death, Anubis. Half-man, Half-dog it stood proudly seemingly grinning at all those who dare enter the city. Leading to it lay four canals filled with shimmering water covered in patches of bright, verdant, green moss. Around the city, jungle surrounded it slowly creeping closer waiting to claim the city, to consume it. Oddly the city was silent with only the noise of flowing water, none of the animals dared enter. Not yet, they waited for the night.

As the sun came and went, night appeared and the city came alive. Anubis’s eyes flickered with blazing fire and lanterns across the golden roads glowed with ancient light. Animals came from their homes prowling the streets, howls and roars fill the night. A Tiger hunts looking for prey, monkeys swing from building to building and birds call out with bird songs and caws. Countless beings filled the city once again almost like it’s peak long ago. Although not human the city had accepted them as it’s own. It’s new people. It’s new inhabitants.

The night went on until eventually the animals went back to their caves, their lairs and their homes. The lanterns slowly turned back to black and the fiery eyes of Anubis once again came close shut. The morning light covered the city causing it to glow once again. But something was different on that day as there was a creature watching. A creature the city had not seen for millennia, a human. The human watched agape looking upon the radiant city as morning came, his eyes in awe. He looked upon the great city of Anubis.
