Volume 1, Bridge

Volume 1, Bridge

Below him was a blur of red and white light, of cars moving and of a city alive. Countless people walked on the streets, their laughter reaching him only faintly. His hands shook as cold winds blew around him, atop a bridge where no one else passed. Taking a step forward he looked below nearing the steep edge. His face paled. Was he really going to this? Was he going to die?

Around him the wind grew louder almost like it was encouraging him, encouraging him to take the damn step. Taking a deep breath he remembered, his sad life. His terrible life. He had lost everything, his rights to see the kids, his name and his reputation. His eyes once cloudy grew determined with every passing second. A foot over the ledge he heard someone shout his name. A look of surprise appeared on his face when he recognized the voice. His old friend was there, her face staring at him in pure horror.

“Halric what are-“, Her voice was cut short as Halric fell, the wind blasting into his ears.

A swirl of wind had enveloped him, dancing around his body. It almost seemed that time had completely stopped. His mind filled with forgotten memories. Memories of his birth, of his wedding and of his son's birth. He felt tears fall, the world blurring as he fell further and further. The road below him roared with the noise of cars. Regret painted his face as he stared upwards, his hand reaching towards the bridge as he fell. The night sky was black and he would die, he knew this to be true. The ground neared and within one second he hit the dark asphalt with a loud boom. He only felt the pain for a mere moment before the abyss had consumed him. He was dead.
