The Overachievers

The two Pioneers ran off before they both jumped into the air and flew across the charred remains of Idlefrost that they just crossed to talk to the Lady Governess.

"They can fly?" Lady Governess Lorella asked amongst a crowd of people gasping, it was a rare thing to see someone with these powers.

"They have many powers, and I must warn you, they are a force of nature. They will no doubt be done with the road and more by the time you turn your head away. They are eccentric, powerful, and sort of naive to the ways of the larger world. It is a dangerous mix, so I must warn you Lady Governess Lorella, be careful what you request of them because they are capable of things you cannot imagine. However, if you let them build you a town you will be amazed to find yourself in an indestructible fortress with technologies beyond your imagination." High Priestess Alana said loud enough for all who wanted to hear could do so.

"That....is a bold statement High Priestess Alana, are you sure that you speak the truth? If they are truly as powerful as you say then it will be interesting indeed to see what they do with this monumental project. Shall we watch them?" Lorella asked skeptically she could sense the power in them, but that is a far cry from the description from the High Priestess of FicSitine.

"Yeah, you must see it for yourself," Marchen said with a knowing smile, it seemed tired and stressed.

"Are you well, First Chosen Marchen?" Lorella asked, as formal as ever. "I hope you haven't brought false hope, these people do not deserve it."

With a sigh, they started walking and Marchen finally replied, "I am well Shrine Guardian Lorella, just know that we have watched them do things once thought impossible, or rather, things that have never even been thought of. We bring you miracles this day. Trust me."

A large group of curious villagers and representatives of various nations walked to the other side of the destroyed town. They made it to the edge of the old road where they could look down to see the landslide and all its destruction going down to the crossroads at the bottom of the long sloped mountain bowl. "What is that they are doing?" Lorella asked as they looked on.

The entire landslide was covered in white balls that looked like perfect spheres. And looking at the two pioneers, they were hovering above the debris pile, throwing snowballs down at it. But the balls would stick on impact and not shatter as snow would.

"Is that....unbreakable snow? I have a feeling this one is going to be a lot to take in." Charine commented worriedly.

They watched for another 15 minutes as the pioneers layered snowballs all over the landslide, even getting into cracks to drop more. Then they flew over to the group.

"Alrighty, if you have sensitive ears or really good hearing we recommend covering them or plugging them somehow, this will be a loud explosion!" Caldesan said while floating in the air. The group was on the very start of the road that left the city to follow the slope of the hill that ran around to the North before breaking East. They looked at the hovering Pioneers confusedly.

"Are you all ready?" Glossarai asked.

Without waiting for a reply they counted together. "3, 2, 1..." SNAP. The pioneers looked at each other as they counted down, then they snapped the fingers of their left hands at the same time. The explosion was simultaneously the most controlled and the loudest thing that anyone had ever seen. It was so loud because every white ball exploded at the same time, making the sound amplify and echo throughout the valley. The crowd felt it in their bones and hearts.

The strangest thing was that with each explosion of snow, bursting outwards hundreds of times, was that the rocks all separated into pieces, and DISAPPEARED. Just like breaking rocks with explosives in the game. This was another weird aspect of the game that turns out to be insanely overpowered when applied to this reality. They could effectively remove this landslide down to the smallest pebble.

These "snowballs" were from the Christmas Satisfactory Event. The Snowball explosives or snow-explosives were a much better version of the Nobelisk Explosives. They flew through the air better, they took up less of your screen, and the "snap" is extremely satisfying. When the two Pioneers realized how much better the snowballs were, they had them in production for a long time, and they were well stockpiled. It turns out that they both brought an excessive amount.

The lower part of the landslide was instantly gone. The road lowered down for nearly 800 vertical feet and many more as it wrapped around to the North and turned to the East always into a clearing where it ran into another road that ran North to South in a T-intersection.

"Everyone okay?" Gloss asked the awe-struck crowd. It turns out much of the town came with them to watch the pioneers work. She received some grumbles and nods in return, then she turned to Caldesan.

"So Cald, I am thinking we set the first foundation right here at the top of this road. It is almost perfectly aligned with the Gates to the Western side of the city. If we go out a few foundations past this turn we will be even. I measured it." Glossarai said.

"Yeah sounds good, do you want to lay it? I was thinking we could use those modded foundations that look like asphalt roads from Earth. I bet it would fit with the aesthetic here. They also need forest green trees here." Caldesan said while eyeing the gates to the West.

"Don't say it, I swear...."

"And BLUE PALMS!"

After the two Pioneers stopped giving each other a hard time, Glossarai laid down the first tile that was lined up perfectly with the four Cardinal Directions. "Alright, Could everyone back up, please? I am going to make the road here." Caldesan asked.

The people looked confused, but the original group knew what was coming and moved off to the side where they felt they should be fine for a while.

"Is there a fine Caldesan?" Nalah asked.

"Yeah! Thanks, Nalah!" Cald replied all too excited.

From there Cald made the perfect corner to a road that turned to go down the mountain to the highway far below. Caldesan built the road with a walkway on the outside for foot traffic. A railing lined both sides of the path. Caldesan put large street poles that doubled as power poles through the railings at even intervals between the road and the walkway. It was so perfectly done that everyone stared in shock. Before they could reply the pioneers had extended the road, walkway, and power/light poles to the location where the road to the town and the larger road met up.

Then they went in two different directions, paving the highway that went South to North. To the North, the road eventually met up with the path that they had been making along the base of the train tracks. It would serve to provide some basic cover for potential travelers, and before now the road stopped at this town, and only now it continued into the desert.

More lights went in and it went on into the distance to the South. From there the tracks were brought to the clearing where the "T" intersection was on the now-paved roads. One pioneer brought the tracks in and they made another Turbine Junction. The Turbine Junction was easily 30 meters off the ground above the new T-Intersection and was floating until one of the pioneers added support columns. The tracks could go North, East, and South, but going West as if it would extend straight into the mountain.

At this point, 20 minutes had passed and one pioneer was gone off into the distance paving the road.

"What...am I watching?" The Earth Shrine Guardian Lorella said in awe.

"The entrance to your new city. It seems they are going to make this an amazing place to see, a great wonder of our country." Marchen said triumphantly.

The townsfolk that had gathered to watch were itching to get closer and inspect the work they did to understand what they were looking at. None passed the Shrine Guardian to walk on the road yet, they respected her as the front of this operation and would let her determine if it was safe or not.

She finally stepped forward onto the road, feeling its sturdy nature. It had a strange warm smell that she could not relate to anything she had smelled before and it was unclear how they put these platforms down. They were standing in line at the end of the road that the pioneers had started to make, and Caldesan made a small overlook area that was extended over the cliff but connected to the pedestrian walkway that went down the mountain.

Lorella sat down on a bench and looked back to the Pioneer, thinking of how they held great beauty, power, and knowledge. They used their powers to build for others.

"What do they want First Chosen Marchen?" Lorella asked as she got her emotions under control.

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Hmm?"

"The Pioneers, what do they believe in, what do they want? What are they going to demand of us? This power they wield can sway nations, change eras, enable untold things.....what do they want?" Her eyes finally left the flying Pioneer that was still working and locked on Marchens smiling face, he had sat down next to her on the bench.

"Well, I believe they made the demand of you already, they have made that demand once before, isn't that right Apprentice Shaman Nalah?" Marchen said.

Nalah stepped forward with a grace that belied her Giant Honey Badger form. "Indeed, I requested to join their entourage as they went into the desert to make a home for themselves....not but a week ago mind you, and they required one thing of me, and that was a hug." She said with a laugh. "They are extremely powerful but very naive to the ways of the world. I have taken the responsibility to ensure their safety and well-being. Worry not though, their hugs are very well received, and I am lucky enough to get one every morning from at least one of them." She chuckled as she finished speaking and her caring and motherly-sounding tone was not lost on the Shrine Guardian.

"Yeah, we don't understand it either, but at the same time, it's a small price to pay to even be in the presence of this. I imagine they have plans for this place already thought of, and you should add your input, but trust them. They love to build." Marchen said to the confused Earth Shrine Guardian, her huge tails were off to the side and everyone gave them a respectable distance as they quivered in shock and awe.

Lorella shook her head with an amused exhaling of air through her nose and went back to paying attention to the single flying Pioneer and her tails calmed.

The Pioneer finished a large platform on the East side of the road, but South of the Eastern-headed tracks. She then began making 4 Train Stations, and a switching junction that enables you to get back into the Turbine Junction, to go in any of the 4 directions. It seemed to happen so fast, but one thing after another, you can just watch it assemble.

A building sound to the South Signaled the other Pioneers' return, as she set up towers that seemed equidistant, and lined up perfectly with the Turbine Junction.

After that was set up, one of them connected a wire and the lights all turned on, before they just said they were lights, but nothing was lit...now an amazing yellow-white glow came from them, and they lit the walkway and the road as far as the eye could see. It was nearly 2 in the afternoon, but the lights could be seen clearly, their brightness unwavering and unnaturally white.

Without seeming to exchange any words with the other Pioneer, the one who just returned from the South started to work on the belts that came from the train stations, at first it looked like she was just raising tall spires, but as the other Pioneer built the top floor of the train station, it was clear where the belts would end up.

"That building is eye level with us, what are they doing making it so huge?"

"Is that a palace? What are they making?"

"This is crazy, where are they getting all the materials for this?"

The crowd began to ask questions out loud, as they watched the construction of this massive building the very top "floor", was even with the terrace they stood upon.

Lorella stood up without turning around and the crowd instantly quieted. "Just watch this, I have a feeling they mean us no harm. Cancel construction for today, we are witnessing this."

It was then that one train was pulled through the junction and into the new building that was now covered in a beautiful rooftop. Some columns ran along the sides of the Train Station, but it didn't have actual walls, it was open but looked like some Acropolis, but with trains. The station that train pulled up to unloaded only 1 of the cars connected, and blue bottles began to go up the Conveyor Lift to the logistics hub on the top floor of the entire building.

The very top floor of the building had an opening that one of the pioneers was now extending a bridge across, which lined up with the terraced level of the city. She built a few platforms then stood for a few seconds, and then a bridge manifested itself out of flying bags. It seemed to perfectly line up with the terrace just to the North of the terrace by around 50 meters. The way this road worked is that it went down before the turn to the left from the city began, so the bridge was nearly 20 meters higher than where the group of people watched.

The Pioneer that had made the bridge was extending belts that contained the blue bottles. When she finally got close to the group Nalah called out.

"Caldesan is that another Item Bridge?" Nalah asked, breaking the silence. She had been able to tell the two apart when they had their working helmets on....it was simple, Caldesan hummed or whistled and Glossarai muttered about what she was building or what to build next. They did that nearly the entire time they were building. It was also easy to tell them apart by their body language. Caldesan was more casual in her stance, even while flying. Glossarai's rigidity was more a calculated movement and her movements translated to precise thought processes that didn't want to waste a second. Gloss seemed to emanate efficiency in every action.

The figure that just finished extending the bridge was humming.

She looked over to the group and laughed, "Haha you know me too well Nalah! You can betcha that we are gonna have an item bridge! But this will also hold up HyperTubes from the Train Station to the Entrance of the town. Gloss and I were thinking that we could make a nice open square right here where the road could split and go to the different districts of the town and there could be like a cool entrance there."

"Districts of town? What do you mean?" Lorella asked, not in a hostile manner, but almost reproachful, and cautious.

"Well, we figured the town could be broken up into a few Districts to make it easier. Now the Main Town Hall is in the Northwestern part of this plateau, so maybe that could be the Leadership District, then to the Southwestern side, where the mines are, that can be the Mining District, but also handle the processing...Then to the Southeastern side Residential District, and the Northeastern side of the Market District. Each one has different aspects that things can fall under, and can be expanded on." Caldesan said while floating in the air casually.

"That....that isn't a bad idea. But we already have the Guild Hall in what would be the Leadership District, would that not be a problem?"

"Yeah, Leadership, they are in charge of Adventurers coming and going. Seems perfect."

"What about my Inn?" Some large Bearkin asked from the crowd of people.

"Easy, Market district, as that is next to where people need to go for everything. I figured we could have an open courtyard and some basic distribution buildings. Then people could get water and other supplies from there, and we could bring up more building supplies easily. We can always change it too, so don't worry!" Caldesan said happily before returning to work.

"Well, what are your thoughts Earth Shrine Guardian Lorella?" Nalah of the Giant Honey Badgers asked, she knew the effect these girls had on people, and it was certainly extensive.

Once the item bridge spanned the gap between the top of the Train Station, and the base level of the plateau, the two pioneers flew back up to meet with the townsfolk, who stood there in mostly stunned silence.

"What do you guys think of your new road and Train Station....or Idlefrost Station as it is now?" Caldesan asked proudly.

"You are Caldesan?" The Shrine Guardian asked quickly, receiving a nod she continued, "I am at a loss for words, do you truly intend to help build our town? I am not sure that our town can afford this. What you just did...is...a lifetime's work. How can we repay you?" Finally showing more emotion than normal, she asked what she could do for them.

"Well, we did have a deal...." Glossarai said with a smile on her face as she took her helmet off.

The Shrine Guardians' laugh was music to Caldesans ears, she opened her arms and walked forward while bringing her tails forward, "Come, embrace me and my tails, I am honored by your presence." The townspeople cheered, as Cald and Gloss raced forwards and hugged the Shrine Guardian and her incredible tails.

"Alright, so shall we meet and discuss plans for the town's rebuilding?" High Priestess Alana asked after the Pioneers released the Lady Governess from their prolonged, tail-included hug.

"Yeah, we have a bunch of questions to ask about your town, just some basic information gathering and we can easily make more plans for the city than we already have." Gloss said.

It was then that loud horns could be heard blowing from the Western Gates of the town.

"To the gates now! I will not have them breached today." The Earth Shrine Guardian ordered while making her way through the people who were then dispersing and running towards the far gates.

"Let's check it out, Gloss!" "Sure." And the Pioneers disappeared as they flew incredibly fast across the city, leaving all in the dust.

"CALD NO!" The Shaman Apprentice Nalah Shouted as Caldesan flew off after Glossarai without even looking back.

"We need to get to them, NOW!" Marchen said as they all took off running.

Cald and Gloss got to the gates, and they were hovering nearly 20 meters above it. Below them what could only be described as massive Dire Wolves were biting at the gates. They were the size of horses and they would lunge at it with their front paws causing it to buckle violently.

Cald looked to Gloss and shrugged, "Their arrows don't seem to be stopping them...let's take them out, yeah?"

Gloss nodded and pulled out a rifle.

The two pioneers unloaded round after round into the Dire Wolves, downing one after another. The wolves couldn't respond to the flying Pioneers and the attack was over in seconds, but everyone at the gates looked up at their saviors thankfully.

A large wolfkin female who looked incredibly strong raised a fist and said, "Thank you, warriors!" Caldesan yelled back, "No Problem!" want us to build a stronger gate?"

"What...right now?" The Wolfkin looked around incredibly confused.

"Yup!"

The current gate was at a choke point between the cliffs, but the area was a small chokepoint, there was a larger clearing before the mountains came together, and it was in this larger clearing that the pioneers built a massive set of doors. They are the largest Industrial Door available in the mod that it came with. along with the large door, they built two on either side that was man-sized. The large door was 15 meters tall, and the walls they made were another 10 meters above the top of the door. They then made a walkway along the top that came down to the ground on either side of the doors on the town side of the wall.

"That is incredible! Look at the door, it has to be made of pure iron or something!" Another wall guard exclaimed.

The current inner wall they were standing on, made of broken wooden beams, wrapped wire, and other bits of metal just couldn't compare.

The other group of running representatives and an Earth Shrine Guardian, ran forward as they heard loud claps in the distance. Only to focus on the two floating pioneers as they did something that made a loud noise.

Still watching them, they constructed a massive Metal Gate that had to be as strong as the mountains it now guarded. The very top of the new wall that they built was just over the top of where the two mountains started to separate and rise into the sky. The group then slowed their running speed down and the horns had long since stopped blaring.

The panic was replaced by an air of stunned silence. The people who were manning the wall, including the guard captain, were staring in shock at the magician's conjuration of a gate that was probably the largest single refined piece of metal in existence. The pioneers opened the doors, just to see what it looked like, and there was nothing short of gasps as the doors parted for them. They floated down and handed something to the large Wolfkin standing on the old wall.

The group finally made it to the old small wooden wall, and they could hear Caldesan explaining how the pad she had given the Wolfkin controlled the gates, and that they should never lose that single item or it could be impossible to get another.

"So...try it out!" Cald said.

"Alright" the Wolfkin lady pressed something on the pad and the small doors on both sides opened before closing again.

"Incredible. We can control all flow through the city like this!"

"You might need to upgrade your bows though...hehe," Caldesan said with a chuckle.
