CHAPTER FIVE: A CIRCLE MADE ANEW

Snippet Six (1): Sorrows on the Beach

Monika quickly snaps awake in her Spinosuarus form right near a beach as a message bubble angrily sizzles next to her. She sighs and switches to her normal Merrow form and answers it.

"This is Gheyo Ace Supervisor Mesmyr. You have missed your check-in point and have been docked 2 points. Come to the Water Castle grounds to make up the 2 points." An angry Merrow stares at her from the bubble. "I know you've had it rough, but you cannot miss patrol like this anymore. If need be, I will assign you a circle! Be here in 5 minutes!"

Monika groans and looks at the grave marking next to her. She kisses it and then ports to the normal Gheyo area at the Castle. She swims over to the very angry Ace and nods her head. "Ace. I'm here. Who am I supposed to fight?"

"You were supposed to be here 5 hours ago!" Mesmyr says as he angrily glares at Monkia. "You should be glad that I'm only taking off 2 points and not a full 10!" He growls and then points to the training area. "Go over there and train the Pages for 5 hours. You can eat when they do."

Monika hisses at Mesmyr. "Training? Come on Ace, I don't deserve that and you know it!"

He glares into her eyes. "Yes, you do! You've been late to every patrol this week. And the last week! Something has got to give, and if it's you training the Pages, that'll be what happens to you for the next 20 years." He growls at her until she lowers her gaze.

She groans again and makes her way over to the Pages. "Listen up, I don't have the patience for any whining." She starts teaching the ungrateful Gheyos how to do sword attacks in the water.

At lunchtime, Monkia is happily eating by herself outside, nestled into a seagrass bed; she snarls anytime someone comes close to her. When she is done eating, she sits there trying not to think of the next few years of being forced to train newbie Gheyos, but before long, she starts feeling a tug at her soul. She swears before pulling out her legs; she has one last thought before accepting the soul scream: At least she wouldn't need to train the Gheyo Pages more than one day...
