A regular guy becomes a dungeon
Interlude 2: Questions

Interlude 2: Questions

Agent Green stepped off the helicopter. After a brief exchange of greetings, she immediately cut to the chase. "I got a briefing on the way here. I want to see them Chief, and I want to hear your perspective on the events" "Let's get going then Agent." Chief West immediately began to escort her to the two former police officers. "One of them died. Drank some kind of poison. The other one took several shotgun shells to the chest among other things. Thought he was dead, but somehow it seems he was just knocked out. We think we have him secured" They passed under some crime scene tape around the scene. "You think?" "We have several pairs of cuffs on them, chained them to the largest tree we could find, and have the rest of the SWAT team aiming at them with shotguns. At the very least we should be able to knock them out if it comes to it."

They arrived at the aforementioned tree. The suspect was, as briefed, tied to the tree with several cuffs and chains tied around him. "They are still alive..." Agent Green whispered under her breath. "I know what you mean. If a few hours ago someone told me it was possible to survive several shotgun shells to the chest, I'd send them to a psychologist..." Chief West replied. Agent Green took out a cell phone, briefly conversed with someone, and hung up the phone.

"Good news, I hope?" Chief West hesitantly asked. "My superiors are contacting the appropriate people as we speak. We have some time while they finish that up." Agent Green replied. "I want a rundown of your day leading up to this point." She stated.

Chief West proceeded to go over how they had gotten a report of two fake police officers dying and one person being hospitalized with both hands missing. Of how he'd been told the third persons hands had been blown off rather than cut off, among other things. How he'd gone to the hospital to verify for himself, and upon discovering he was lied to had immediately headed to the crime scene to see what was true with his own two eyes. Finally, he finished with how the two officers had turned traitor and nearly took out a SWAT team nearly single handedly and upon being defeated revealed the identity of an underground organization called the Stained Crime Syndicate.

As he finished up, Agent Green shook her head. "If I didn't see the evidence for myself, I wouldn't believe you." Her phone rang. "Agent Green." ... "Yes sir." ... "I understand. The site will be ready for their arrival." ... "Got it." She hung up the phone. "Well. Good news and bad news. Good news is that the Military is mobilizing right now to take complete control of the site. Bad news is that everyone here has to stay here until the Military gets done asking questions to everyone. Chief West. You're coming with me to the hospital. We have to find Alan in the hospital and inform him of the situation and prepare him for questioning."

After prepping the scene for the arrival of the military and making sure everyone was aware to unload everything into the prisoner without hesitation in the event he tried to escape, the two rushed off to the hospital to find Alan. Upon arrival they were directed to Alan's room to find him awake in bed. He looked startled a bit at their entrance. "Police Chief West? And who's that with you?" He asked. "This is Agent Green. She's with the Criminal Investigations Bureau. We have some questions for you, if you would be willing to answer them." "We want to know what happened to you in your friend Jeffery's house." Agent Green interjected.

Alan shook his head. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you. No one would believe what happened in that house." Chief West shook his head. "Listen to me Alan. Today I shot a man 5 times in the chest at near point-blank range. That man is still alive. His partner had to be subdued by trapping him under the wheels of an eight-ton vehicle. The only reason he isn't alive right now is because he killed himself to prevent our questioning. I'm willing to believe a lot of stuff at the moment. Alan looked briefly shocked for a second, but after seeing the police chief looking so serious, he realized that the police chief wasn't bluffing.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"Well, I guess I'll start from the beginning." Alan recounted how his friend Jeff hadn't showed up to his house as expected, how he'd called the police department to help and how he'd entered the house to find his friends dead body at the bottom of the stairs. Finally, he recounted how that thing at the bottom of the stairs had killed the two police officers and taken both his hands." Agent Green nodded as she wrote his account down on a notebook. "Can you go into as much detail as you can about your encounter with the thing at the bottom of the stairs?" "Umm, let me think... So, like I said, I got to the bottom of the stairs cause my friend was down there, and as I bent down to check if he was alive, a blade embedded itself in the wall right where my head had been. I looked up and saw some weird crystal thing arms and legs and swords. I backed up into a corner and was hollered for help and pleaded for my life. The two officers came down and started firing at the thing... " Alan trailed off for a bit, eyes looking somewhere else.

Chief West snapped his fingers a few times. Alan blinked a few times. "Hey. You've been through a rough time. Do you need a moment?" He asked Alan with a bit concern. Alan shook his head. "I'm not doing all that great right now. My emotions are all in a mess." Alan replied. "Still, I'd like to keep going..." He shook his head a bit. "Where was I again?" "The two officers." Agent Green prompted.

"Right. They'd just come down the stairs and opened fire on the thing. One of them shouted for backup, saying something about a code?" Agent Green motioned for him to stop. "A code? What specifically did they say?" Agent Green inquired. "If I remember correctly, they were saying code 12?" Alan replied. Agent Green wrote that down in her notebook and motioned for Alan to continue. "Anyway, so they'd called for backup and such, but before they could do anything else, both of them were kill by that monster before they had a chance to do anything. It was a one-sided massacre." He started to trail off again and his eyes lost focus. "Stay on track Alan. I know it's hard, but we need you to finish telling us what happened." Alan shook his head again. "Right. I was still backed up into the corner, and that monster approached me to finish me off. But it stopped for a second. It hesitated for a moment, and next thing I knew both my hands were gone. Right before I passed out from the sheer pain, I remember seeing the thing stand there for a moment before running out the basement. I heard a loud noise like a door being broken down, and then I woke up here." He finished.

"Is there anything else?" Agent Green asked. Alan hesitated for a moment. "No. I have nothing else to say in regard to what happened." He replied. "Thank you for talking to us Alan. We'll be stepping out now. We're going to send in a specialist to talk with you about what happened to help you deal with it. Do you need anything before we go?" Agent Green asked. "No. I'm good. Thank you for listening." Alan said.

As the two left the room, Agent Green called her superiors to inform them of the strange creature Alan had described. After hanging up, Agent Green gave Chief West a brief. "Everything we just heard here is not to be told to anyone else. My superiors are informing the relevant people in the Military. Furthermore, your entire department is to be questioned." Chief West nodded. "I understand. Just let me know where and I'll get everyone together."

Agent Green and Chief West left the hospital and began to head back to the house. "What did you think about that last thing Alan said?" Chief West asked. "The part where he said he had nothing else to say?" Agent Green replied. "Yeah. You think he really had nothing else to say?" "Not at all. I know he's not saying something. That being said, I believe what he did tell us, so I'm going to act on that information." Chief West hesitated for a moment. "We could go back and confront him about it." Agent Green shook her head. "He isn't ready to talk to us about it. If we pressed the issue now, we wouldn't get anywhere, and valuable time would be wasted. We have to act on the information we have now. And we have to act fast." She said with a grim determination.

With that, they got back to the site. Military helicopters were landing, materials and equipment were being offloads, and a base of operations was being set up. As they got out of the car, a soldier directed them to an operations tent that had been set up. "Straight into the fire while still in the frying pan..." Agent Green remarked.
